One of the best parts is that the animation quality actually improves as it goes on because they actually got better as they animated lol
That's actually the first time I've heard a movie's animation quality going up AS they're doing it actually. :o What's interesting is it's hard to notice.
@@klltx2001 Yeah, if you pay attention, a lot of it gets smoother as it goes on lel
@@klltx2001 That's kinda what happened with the very first Wallace and Gromit short. Nick Park started animating it all by himself as a university project, however Aardman stepped in to help with animating the rest of the short. If you pay attention to the start of the short and compare it to the end, the quality of the character animation definitely improves as it goes.
From what I heard there were so many restrictions, budgeting restraints and issues surround the movie's creation that it would have looked worse if they didn't crunch on it. Like no re-shoots on most of the scenes or something.
The fur on the wolf when he's being interviewed looked really good to me for some reason.
"Don't judge a book by its cover" is literally the perfect description for this movie
It would have been really easy for it to just bea cheap cash in on Shrek's fame at the time.
But you can tell that everyone working on this movie was actually really invested, with the writting and the voice acting really standing the test of time

You can tell all the budget went to the narrative and casting departments, and the animations were left to a highschooler using Blender for the first time after making his first donut. One of my favorite childhood movies, 10/10, would see granny skateboarding again.
I've heard there wasn't many animators on the movie. Or they were a brand new team
@@nigeldean3726 both.

I loved this movie growing up. It was my first “murder mystery/who-done-it” style of movie and I remember leaving the theater as a kid and being mind blown how the separate stories of the characters all blended together so cleverly. 10/10 on my nostalgia meter 😂

When Red falls out of the gondola, Bingo's focus is on her picnic basket & he tries to grab it. The animators were sure to make it so his eyes were looking at the basket & not her. The things you notice when you rewatch a 'who dun it' story, wowee.
I grew to love the name Keith because of this movie.

Interestingly, Hoodwinked, is one of the first independently funded 3D animated movies. Which explains a lot about the animation.
@BradynLee I doubt you could have written the script which is way more important than animation
@TrainedACE You couldn't make The Amazing Bulk even if you tried bro.
@TrainedACETo be fair, they were learning how to use Maya on the go since it was recently created at the time and they had a pretty low budget as well. However, like you said, animation software has improved drastically since then and anyone who has time to become a skilled animator can in fact animate better than what's shown in the movie. That doesn't mean that they haven't created a rough gem though. It's great, but it would be amazing if it got an animation overhaul.

This movie used to air basically every other week on Cartoon Network, so it’s kinda surprising I don’t remember more of the lines. It’s still a classic, and I adore it, despite the bad animation.
Seriously. As many times as I've seen it, all I remember is the initial granny-jumping-out-of-closet scene and the part where she tells the goat that he said a line without singing it.
I come from the Czech Republic, where Keith's name was changed to "Slavomír". Slavomír literally means "The one who celebrates peace" - "mír" means "peace"- so in czech the bunny tells him to change his name because it doesn't sound intimidating when he has the word "peace" in his name :D it always makes me chuckle
11:47 if you use a guillotine it’s dance dance French Revolution
Okay so fun fact about this movie: they were low budget so they were only able to have one take at the script so they wouldn’t have to do any rewrites. So they made the script as tight as possible on their first try. Really quite impressive.

9:50 Actually the science of the soda going out of the can works because.
Granny and the can she is holding are being pulled down be gravity. But the liquid in the can is lighter so when the can is opened there is an opposite force pushing the liquid up because for every force there is an equal and opposite force more like the liquid would be falling at a different rate then granny and the can so by comparison it would look like it’s flying up.
Not sure on all that science but from how I understand this science I think this is what’s happening.
This movie is considered a cult classic in my country of Czechia, many of us have grown up with it and some of the moments like the banjo goat and (especially) the schnitzel song are a part of our meme culture.

The film was made in a shack of people who had never animated before. I think it turned out great. My only complaint about this reaction is that you said you hated the music, which is in fact really good.
I still listen to the soundtrack
What's funny is that the writers for the second movie basically thought the same thing about the goat and just straight up made every bad thing possible happen to that goat
Yes but the writers for the second movie also weren't very good compared to this one (lol)
I have a lot of nostalgia for this movie, so I can see past all its flaws. It's interesting seeing the perspective of people who don't really like the movie. I loved all the songs and even memorized some of them because of that. Great video as always!

Fun Fact: The animation studio(Kanbar Entertainment, which I think was the main studio) not only had a $15 million budget, but also had animators who had basically zero experience, which is why it looks like a fan film.

Four suspects means four stories, and if you get people talking long enough, someone will spill the beans.
*BEANS?!*
ehh, well you gotta give the creators credit where it's due. as an independently funded movie they had to outsource their animation work to the Phillipines if i remember correctly and those people had very limited experience with animation. the fact that the creators managed to make it work is actually quite impressive despite the shortcomings. the amount of money they made compared to budget really speaks for this in how it didn't just end up on the same tier as ratatoing or a cars life because it actually had some substance.
This movie is a lesson in ‘good animation cannot save a bad story, bad animation can be saved by a good story.’

Personally, the two things I find most interesting about the DVD version of this movie are as follows:
> The Special Features include a voice-acted storyboard for a cut scene in the cave with Wolf, featuring two hilarious, spooky British bats
>The pre-film trailers include one for another 3D animated all-ages comedy film called _Doogal._ I haven’t seen that movie yet but last year I randomly found an interesting CZcams video about it and how it’s actually an American redub/re-edit of a British 3D animated all-ages comedy film.

_"If you ever come across a questionably small handled rolling pin that is carved from one solid piece of wood, you've likely stumbled upon a very old-fashioned model of rolling pin."_ -google
modern rolling pins often have a hole in the middle so the pin rolls independent of the handles, meaning grip of handles had to be slightly firmer than a solid piece rolling pin..
Vintage/classic/OG rolling pins were often made from one piece of wood, i.e. fixed handles.
