- The Black Myth: Wukong release date is August 20, 2024 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Revealed at The Game Awards 2023, the Black Myth: Wukong release date trailer gives us another exciting look at the upcoming action-RPG rooted in Chinese mythology, developed and published by Game Science.
Based on Journey to the West, one of the four classical novels of Chinese literature, the game puts you in the shoes of the Destined One, challenging you to venture into a fascinating yet dangerous world. Master and combine different spells, weapons, and abilities to suit your combat style. - Hry
As a Chinese guy, I've heard the story of Journey to the West told a thousand times, but this modern interpretation is actually giving me chills.

Guys, a lot of the buildings and statues in the game were actually scanned from temples in China, and game science used this to create a library of Unreal 5 architectural materials. So in the game you can not only intuitively see the variety of monster types, you can also potentially feel the Chinese style of the architectural background. This is one of the reasons for its unique art style. In other words, playing this game is like traveling in ancient China!

Sun Wukong is such a fantastic character to get to play as, the mechanical possibilities are literally endless. I’m extremely interested to see how extensive the adaptation of his massive and varied power set is. I’ve been watching this game for years and to see it in this state is just, goddamn, this game really looks like it’s gonna be something special.

But it will still be very cool to see what they come up with, the shape-shifting is already looking amazingly well executed
@@purplephantom2441 a few of wukong powers in lore: Doppelgänger which allows him to have multiple clones in his fights and also he can fight with his clones, 1000 forms like it allows him to take any form he likes, sage mode and many more, and that one fight where he fights with himself may be some trials he has to face and enemy looks like him
This is how a next gen game is suppose to look! Absolutely epic! You can tell they pushed the hardware capabilities to its limits!

Obviously you have the choice as to whether you want to or not, but after you've defeated each mini-boss you come across, you can temporarily morph into them during battle! Weapons and abilities and all!

China's been working decades to explore the best adaptation and the best medium to tell Sun Wukong's Journey to the West. Really excited looks friggin gorgeous and terrifying. They may very well have landed on the most ideal medium so the story, lore and adventures can be fully experience the way it was meant to be.
The 1986 CCTV show, while having awful special effects, was still one of the best adaptations. In one of the trailers for this game, the devs used music from that show. Seems like they're definitely serious about making a proper JTTW game without it being an adaptation.

These things from Japan are only a reference and can't reflect the stories, emotions, and Chinese culture contained in Journey to the West. If you have watched the book or the 86 version of the TV version of Journey to the West, you will find that the Dragon Ball has little to do with Journey to the West and is very different from it

It's literally much closer to gameplay than this is. At least 80% of the above trailer is scripted cinematics, GTA6 trailer is all in engine with a very few elements of story cinematics included.

The cultural fusion of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism also reflects the characteristics of the time when the novel was written. So you can see a mix of Buddhist monks and traditional Chinese buildings in the game. The story is simple enough. It is about Chinese Buddhist monks who set off on a journey west to India to retrieve the Scriptures, and the difficult twists and turns that occurred along the way.This game is to restore part of the scenes depicted in the novel, as well as the difficulties encountered by the protagonists

And the armor in 2:38 is finally correct. In the first trailer years ago, the armor was complete made up, it even had some japanese parts in it. But this one is the main stream chinese general armor from 5th centry to 18th centry.
There is no "mainstream armor from the 5th to 18th century" because the armor from the 5th to 18th centuries were completely different from each other. The earlier Chinese lamellar and scale armors of the 5th-10th centuries actually resemble many Japanese armor because many Japanese armor was inspired by ancient Chinese armor (especially Tang Dynasty armor). The later Chinese armor of the 16th-18th centuries were very different and used brigandine - which was inspired by armors used by nomadic and steppe such as the Mongols and Manchu.
It oozes creativity and those creatures have such intricate designs! Really awesome stuff, I'm so excited for this. It's also a great way to bring back one of the most famous Chinese myths, the same one that also inspired Dragon Ball. There's some great symbolism in the original tale they could explore, especially if they manage to subtly integrate some philosophy into this, too. Really hyped.

From the game's content to its development; to its production to marketing, are all at GameScience's sole discretion with zero interference. Tencent gave the team so much money they were able to build their own standalone studio in Hangzhou.
Tencent also owns 40% of EpicGames, the maker of Unreal Engine. The joint venture is benefitting both companies greatly as Tencent also possess many gaming technologies which they've shared with EpicGames to improve UE.
