442's are back in action on the South West network. After SWT got rid of them they were left to gather dust until Gatwick Express began using them and again they were dumped to gather dust now they're back in operation for South Western Railway on a number of services between Waterloo and Portsmouth and Poole in the peak. Seen here on February 18th 2020 at Woking, West Byfleet & Havant.

Guildford station is a good place to come to, especially if you come in the morning or evening to catch the once a day cross country service. There’s classes 442, 444, 450, 455, 456, and gwr 165s

Great stuff. Nice to hear that good old whine from the traction motors.
I'd rather have these Mk3 based units for a long journey than the new trains like the Hitachi 80X series stock.

Excellent work. My favourite stock (unless they resurrect the class 309s!)

Where is the west coast of Florida ? Lmaoooo.
      - Florida is on the south tip of the east coast

@@TEMPLE7D, I use that as a part of my signature which represents the area of Florida from the city of Naples Florida northward to the area of Steinhatchee Florida where the state curves west and becomes known as the Panhandle region. Home for me is somewhere between the two cities mentioned along the shores of the Gulf of Mexico.

Some nice classic sounds from the traction motors. I suppose the ones that are being reengineered with new traction equipment will sound different.

The Class 442s have now been permanently withdrawn by South Western Railway and will be replaced by refurbished Class 458s which will be transferred from the Reading line and reforming them from 5 to 4 coaches and re-rated to meet the need for 100mph operations and other modifications to associate them for Mainline services to the South Coast

    • @williamwebb6178

South Western Railway is withdrawing the Class 442 because of Covid 19 pandemic, and due to low on demand of stock, and as there is fewer passengers travelling on trains as they are running on reduced services, and due to social distancing. So they decided in the end to retire them as they have no further use for them anymore. These units have been unused for over a year, just sitting around doing nothing. Instead South Western Railway be refurbishing the Class 458s to replace the Class 442s and reforming them 5 to 4 coaches and re-rated to meet the need for 100mph operations and other modifications to associate them with Mainline services to the South Coast

I see SWR have brought these trains back as SWT offloaded them all into the hands of Govia (for the Gatwick Express). But they now have the same trains as Southern do for longer distances.
I wish SWR would get their act together and repaint ALL of their trains in their own livery colours. They shouldn't still be using SWT livery colours - it's been four years now!

For Eg the 159/1s are still in SWT livery and some of the 0s and some of the 158s are too
