The disappointment the moment the Minister says ‘let the match...begin!’ and the light shines away from the stadium 🤦♂️ my heart trembled and and it took me a few seconds before I realized that Harry, Hermione and the Weasleys we’re running away from the death eaters in the tents :(

I've always wished the full story of HP would get cleared for a full multi-season series (8 seasons). While the movies did a decent job at condensing the stories, the story of Potter is much better fit for a tv show where we can really flesh out the long books' stories. A tv series is the only way to fully flesh out the books to screen!

Ronaldo and Messi didn't. Sure, CR7 won the EC...but that Portugese team didn't deserve to win, it was arguably one of the worst champions in history in terms of how the played.

Well not really. I'm not sure if it was stated in the books or not but there are still the other games in the hogwarts Quidditch cup, like Slytherin vs Hufflepuff. Harry would have definitely watched all of those

Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff and Slytherin and Harry wouldn't have been playing in any of those. Not to mention that Harry has a book of quidditch through the ages (you know the pictures move don't you)

@@kaboomdynamite Same!!! In the book it was so vividly described I cannot imagine what it would be like if they adapted it on screen properly. I would've loved to see the Irish team's crazy plays and teamworks, the Bulgarian team's plays and of course, Krum's Wronski Feint.

This is why Goblet of fire should have been put into two parts like deathly hallows

@@mizusecond The match is the common threat to show us some hints which would be eventually crucial...Winky and the empty seat. Furthermore, as far as I know, a movie is something which provides entertainment, and I think anything is more entertaining than the Quidditch World Cup final.
I absolutly agree with the OP, it'd have been better divided in two movies, not only for the Quidditch match, but also for showing us Dobby and his crucial role (Gyllyweed), the S.P.E.W...

What sports do you watch? Are you an American that needs to watch the national anthem?
I'm Dutch, the only talk I have to watch is before the match. Sports I tend to watch are Football(/Soccer), sometimes Ice Skating, Hockey, Swimming.
Funny, in Australia we go straight into it, no speech, only do national anthem for finals and no pussyfooting around.

For those wondering, Ireland won, 170-160. Krum caught the snitch when his team is down 160 points. Bulgaria only reached final because Krum always gets the snitch fast enough before his team gets trashed. Ireland is way better as a team while Bulgaria only relies on Krum. IMO Bulgaria should had just "parked the bus", meaning, all the other six players should had played defense at or near their own goal posts while they wait for Krum to get the snitch. 😂 Or maybe they did, Ireland is just too good. Curious that no UK team reached the final.

The fact that catching a Golden Snitch is worth 150 points and ending the game means that Ireland was SLAUGHTERING them!

And Fred with George were so happy because they made the bet that Ireland will win, but Krum will catch the snitch
Those who never had read the books, they should start them. The entirety of this match is written and encompasses a whole chapter. It's absolutely epic and is all about the best parts of the Wizarding World.
One book: Quiddich through the ages, By J.K Rowling, happens to have sections of the latest World Cup, where Bulgaria won it, with Krum catching the Snitch

I would do anything to see a full professional Quidditch match being played. Just a 10 minute clip with crazy camera angles and some awesome stunts. Would pay big money to see that on the big screen.

Instead of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, I’d really love a movie devoted to a Quidditch World Cup event and focused on a team’s struggle to win the cup. That’d be really epic. A sports-themed movie set in the wizarding world would be awesome, to say the least. :)

I've actually read a Hermione/Krum fanfiction novel in which Hermione becomes a medical apprentice to the head medical witch of the Bulgarian National team during the summer before the 4th book. In that one the Bulgarian team is preparing, training and playing world cup matches. Some nice quidditch scenes in that, very nice team dynamics from the Bulgarian team, and a very realistic Hermione/Viktor relationship.
And the team the movie/s focuses on. The Chudley Cannons

I remember seeing this in theaters, and was excited to see how this played out, but I was surprised and disappointed that they cut everything out, including Winky! I understand that the movies have a lot of time constraints, but I like seeing the smaller moments that really bring characters together!
A lot of scenes in Goblet of Fire are really rushed and the movie moves at insane speeds. Not just as an adaptation, this plot is rushed in general, it's crazy how fast everything moves. Scenes end instantly to move on to the next thing

Its funny that Goblet of Fire felt much more rushed and full of holes than Order of the Phoenix did, considering the latter is a longer book.
@@QuincyVollstandig If the plot is rushed it's not the director's fault though, but the script writer's, who actually needs to read the book and chooses what to put and leave out. There are a good number of movies where the director didn't check the source material and they are as good, if not better than it.

... "Top of the morning" isn't an invention from a CZcamsr, it's a typical greeting among the Irish.
It was a common Irish greeting, it goes back centuries. It is still well known but used more used now in a stereotypical way.

A season of TV for this book would have been perfect. 5-6 episodes, one covering the QWC and introducing the Triwizard Tournament. 3-4 episodes for the challenges. And one final episode for Voldemort’s return.

I will always remember watching this with my Irish grandmother and her saying it was inaccurate because "there wasn't any whisky or guinness".
Considering that arena, most of the whiskey and guinness would have ended up at the bottom row.

Fun Fact: In the book, the binoculars were magical and could replay a scene/slow down the action for the viewer.

This one of the best scenes in the whole movie (and the book). The soundtrack and the sheer joy on everyone's faces is awesome! Unforgettable, goosebumps at the part every time! When you remember the latter theme for Krum, and hear it again in the Triwizard tournament, you know things are gonna be good--

Yess I wish they had shown the whole scene in the movies but you shouldn’t be too picky because then the movies would be really long and directors put a lot of time into it and they put their best effort so we should appreciate it. Although I would still want the movie to be longer but then it would take a long time to make well at least we have the books to cheer us up thank you jk Rowling for being born.

I never noticed it before, but the theme when the Bulgarians enter is the same theme as when Durmstrang enter Hogwarts. Which makes sense considering Krum's present on both occasions.

This was the first HP with a mature theme. More fit for teens vs kids.
I find it interesting that my favorite Harry Potter scenes all coincide with beautiful pieces of music and inculde some type of fyling. Buckbeak's Flight, The Qudditch World Cup, Flight of the Order of the Phoenix.

One time I watching this rerun on TV and my mother passed by asking "Why is the bat boy in Harry Potter?" and I just died laughing
And it was immediately following this scene that I realized Mike Newell had desecrated the source material and I’d be seething under my breath for the next two hours
It should've been Alfonso Cuaron (directed Azkaban). I loved Newell's style, but he really cut out some great material. Goblet of Fire easily could've been another 10min longer, and I guarantee you no one would've complained at all.
However, is it actually on the director for the content included in the films? Or is that a writer problem?

It's the first time when Harry is not in the Dursleys' house in "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" (2005)
Read the book. You find how Mr. Weasley basically blew up the Dursleys living room when he found out the their fireplace was an electrical fireplace and not a wood burning fireplace. And when they were leaving. Fred and George gave Dudley some of their magical candy.
Yeah thid is the movie whdn things start to get more dark, fun, interesting, romantic, and scarier. Thats why i love all the mkvies anc books that are from the fourth movie to the deathly hallows part 2.

Books 4, 5, and 6 are my favourite (no particular order).
Films 4, 5 and 6 are my least favourite (no particular order).
They should have done what they did with the deathly hallows for 4, 5 and 6 - the books are the same length or longer and the films don’t do them justice. As a result, my favourite film is Chamber of Secrets - it’s the longest film and one of the shortest books, so gives the most description and accuracy.
Yeah. Books 1-3 can be fit in just 1 part. Books 4-7 should have 2 parts (as the books got thicker). OotP is the thickest book, but its film was the shortest (except DH due to its 2 parts).
Or better, series instead, but with super budget.
I thought film 5 was fantastic.
Technically the whole book series should have at least 7 seasons of a tv show, for accurate depiction.
And even though film 7 was divided in 2, they still managed to miss a whole chuck of stuff, esp. Dumbledore's back story.
