      Was the mast still up? Also does this boat still have the original wood keel step?

    • @Sailing.Artemis
      @Sailing.Artemis  Před 7 měsíci +1

      @@KentKleinknecht-uc9ql no I had her demast for this repair as well as inspection and wiring on the mast
      The keel stub is surprisingly not rotten in this as it is original

    Brian, what was that stuff to the left was that more wood or structural putty like you said? How come you didn't remove that? I'm just curious.

    • @Sailing.Artemis
      @Sailing.Artemis  Před 7 měsíci +1

      That is putty and some glass
      It holds a drain and acts as a brace for the block
      I "think" it can be cut out but I ran with caution on that one
      I felt it should be left in place

  • @AdventuresofHappyOurs
    @AdventuresofHappyOurs Před 7 měsíci +1

    Curious how you get a new post in there. Do you have to pull the whole post outs from the top?

    • @Sailing.Artemis
      @Sailing.Artemis  Před 7 měsíci

      Oh no.. Really there is no valid way to replace it OEM
      a screw jack is really the only way to fix this
      ill get you a photo

    Were those wires that you were working around? It just to me would have seemed easier just to cut the wires and reattached later just me.

    • @Sailing.Artemis
      @Sailing.Artemis  Před 7 měsíci

      That the antenna and mast lights
      If I have learned one lesson in life it's not to cut antenna wires lol they weren't bad to work around

    My 1985 Catalina 30 had the compression block rebuilt with concrete or mortar. It looks and feels like it's held up okay, but it IS an unorthodox method, to say the least. Any opinions? (I'm prepared to replace it with proper material, unless somebody can reassure me it's gonna be alright...

    Hi Brian, another great video. I felt like I just removed a stub myself. Question, I can't seem to find the replacement stub on Catalina direct. Do they call it a different name?

    • @Sailing.Artemis
      @Sailing.Artemis  Před 7 měsíci +1

      I'll look for a link tomorrow when I'm near my computer
      However I truly believe getting that back in will be impossible
      If I were you I would go with a screw Jack
