The Last Kingdom is a British historical fiction television series based on Bernard Cornwell's The Saxon Stories series of novels. The series airs on BBC America and on BBC Two in the UK. - Zábava
I came across this show on netflix thought I might to give it a try. Little did I know I fell in love with it and finished all 3 seasons in a week. Great show cant wait for more.
If you're into reading i highly recommend the book series (11 books!). I've been listening on audible as i listen while working, but it's such a great story (and the characters are SO much better in the book!)

@@ArtByEmilyHare Yea sometimes screen adaptations tend to veer away from the books. In this case Im good with it. I only stumbled upon season 3 a few days ago. I taught I was seeing things lol.. Thats great news to hear season 4 will be in production. You have made my Christmas with that piece of news.

It's 2021 and I accidentally stumbled upon this show just last week. I said, "yeah I'll give it a try and maybe watch a few episodes". Went through the 4 season quicker than I've binged anything else. Absolutely love it!

Netflix sucked at advertising this. Didn't even know it was a Netflix original until a week ago and that was after randomly starting the show.
Not really a netflix original. They started co-producing it with BBC at the beginning of the 2nd season.
Yeah, Netflix simply bought the show off of BBC. Which is probably a good thing, seeing as the space between the original two seasons is like 2-3 years and Netflix got the 3rd season out, with the same quality, in about a year after the second season. Otherwise we probably wouldn't have season 2 till at least next year and season 4 would take even longer.
I was just happy to have found it. Because I'd watched Vikings this just came up in my cue. I binged the heck out of it. I'm hoping there is a season 4. I understand that each season is 2 books and that there are at least 4 more books? I'm hopeful we'll see more. It's fantastic, great actors and great action.

@@Blckviper It took that long because BBC America co-funded the first season and pulled out of backing it. A bit like Orphan Black, where the BBC pulled out funding on BBC America and they needed to find other funders. It's better to wait and get something of good quality then nothing at all.

Justification from me (irony) No a list actor, Too few explicit sex scenes with both genders, too cheap production, too successful worldwide, too good script, outstanding talented young actors, unusual unadapted style and soundtrack and successful without advertising to the normal audience.😂😂😂😂😂
I just happened to be bored one day and saw this on Netflix. I watched all 4 seasons in like 3 days. And I've watched it over again 3 times now. Hands down one of the most underrated shows of all time. I actually prefer this to GOT. The way the show portrayed Utreds and Alfred's relationship was strangely beautiful. Really looking forward to season 5. Too bad it's the last season.

Dreymon is a straight gangster. this entire show blew my mind and ALL the cast absolutely KILLED IT! but Dreymon man, dang i really hope he blows up in America this dude has talent for sure.

The actor who plays Alfred is a better actor, but the actor who plays Uhtred, while not as good of an actor, is a lot more charismatic.

I passed over this show multiple times. I love swords, horses and viking type shows, so I am not sure why I didn't click on it. My gosh, when I did decide to watch I was completely taken by the show. It was so well acted and Alexander is perfect for his part. The show really takes you in and you feel like your there. That would be a dream come true, of course. Fantastic show, don't stop now Netflix, this is one of the greats!
Omg this me. I kept passing it even though I love Vikings movies and all sorts of historical fiction. I didn't know why I kept ignoring it. One day, I decided to just check how it looks and I never stopped. Perfectly written series and I regret not starting it earlier.
yeah vikings never did it for me .. so passed this one over thinking omg cant do it .. was so glad I did watch it !!.. Netflix ALWAYS does it to me .. gives me a good show .. and then ends it .. yet gives me 4 million seasons of Kardashians .. argggghhh

chronologically this show happens after Vikings. In the first season, the sons of Ragnar are the villains. At least at the beginning.

The Last Last Kingdom begins in 866, after this first wave of Viking invasions. It starts in the second invasion wave.
The Last Kingdom is a "continuation" of the Vikings show. The first season of the Last Kingdom brings Ubba/Ivar the boneless (sons of Ragnar from Viking) as the leader of this second invasion. At the end of this season, they die.

Why is this show not advertised so much better?! I have had Netflix for years but only just discovered this two weeks ago...purely by chance, too. I’ve since binge watched all 4 seasons and now am eagerly but impatiently awaiting season 5!

Honestly this show is more entertaining to me than vikings, i feel the slumps in it aren't as bad as in vikings. This is my favorite netflix show.
I feel the same, I think The last kingdom stands stronger for it developed stronger supporting characters. Vikings lost all the original characters and the new ones are not as well thought as the original.
What i think they really nailed it is they dont rush the story telling,they build the world then tell the story. Its immersive

Alexander mentioned somewhere that sometimes a whole day of shooting ends up being just a few mins in the show. Seems exhausting, I guess that's why they get paid well, to entertain us :)

I stumbled across this show completely by accident...Let me tell you I like it better than G.O.T. Uhtred is the best hero type character. Bad ass, obnoxious, and sarcastic as hell. The writing. and the rest of the cast are top notch

To say I’m in love with this man is an understatement😩. But honestly this cast as a whole is such a win for the girls😍😍
Man, I miss Eric and Sigefrid. It was so interesting to see the antagonists of the season have such a loving relationship for each other, and balance each other out so well. I felt like Season 3's new Danish villains were less dynamic, but I suppose there's room to develop them in Season 4. The ones who lived, that is ;)

I'm inclined to agree. I kinda liked Eric's girl and Uhtred together though.
The Scandinavian actors who played Eric and Sigefrid truly killed it.

He seems like a really good dude to work with. When you see him helping do the seemingly small act of helping the other guy shake the rain from that canopy i think it says quite a bit about him.

Every episode is an absolute thrill that leaves you on the edge of your seat arguing with your spouse/friend what's going to happen next.. I want more. No I NEED more. Incredible show.

This is a great show! I recommend it to all historical drama fans, and Alexander does a great job as the lead character.
I never heard of this show until about a week ago. I was just going through stuff to watch on Netflix and I stumbled across it and decided to watch it because I love the Viking history. I watched all four seasons in about 2 and 1/2 days and it looks like I did it at the perfect time because season 5 comes out in a few days and I can't wait! This is definitely one of the best shows out there especially in that genre. I started the series all over again even though I just finished it the other day LOL it's that good!

I found this show around the same time I found Vikings. Both shows are great, but the cast in The Last kngdom connects with the audience so much more.

I love uhtred! But most boys I know watching the show (who aren't book readers) get really annoyed with his character and/or dislike the actor. I don't know exactly why. They all love Leofric (one of my face characters too). I think Finan has appeal to male viewers and female viewers alike :)

A friend said watch The Last Kingdom - got so hooked and binge watched all 3 seasons over a week. Fell in love with Uhtred and Ragnar - such amazing characters and actors. Great storylines, great scripts, amazing cast and crew, fantastic cinematography and costuming was also awesome. The BEST Viking TV series ever made! The casting team did an awesome job choosing the right actors for this EPIC TV show. Kudos to all involved in this amazing production - you should all be proud of the beautiful work you have done. I hope you win lots of awards and receive the credit and acknowledgement you so deserve.

Nearly the entire first season was shot in Hungary... except for the beach scenes, which I believe were shot in Wales. This season is the same, reportedly, except that at least one beach scene was shot in Northern England.

Many films are shot in Hungary. Budapest and the surrounding area has many big film sets. If you live nearby maybe you can check them out. I dont know if you can tour the permament sets like the castle, or the wild west town.

I’m busy re-binging seasons 1-4 so that I can fully appreciate season 5. One of the most gripping and fulfilling series I have watched for a long time. I’d love to see the story of Aethelstan’s rule developed too.
It’s incredible, the work that goes on behind the scenes. And great to see how tech has made life a little smoother along the way (smartphones to scene block etc).
