A lot of us know Uhtred from the TV show the Last Kingdom. Here we see him accomplish many incredible feats such as slaying the great warrior Ubba, and fighting alongside Alfred the Great being the sword and mind that allowed his Kingdom not to fall to the Vikings. But Uhtred was very real, and was based from a man named Uhtred the Bold the ealdorman of Northumbria. The events in the show take place in the late 9th century when England still had multiple realms and Kings. The real Uhtred was born in the 10th century, when England was a united land under one King. So let’s delve into the life of the real Uhtred and find out more about this mysterious figure.

The Last Kingdom is an absolute masterpiece!
My favourite show ever
The books are very good
i agree,great series
My thoughts exactly!
It is the best series I ever see
"My name is Uhtred, son of Uhtred. I was born an ealdorman of Northumbria, the rightful heir to Bebbanburg. But fate decreed I would be raised as a Dane. That was my life... Until my family was murdered."
Destiny is all....
@@luibaybay7727 u completed it! 😊

Destiny is all
Am I the only one who thought that the "destiny is all" motto was kind of silly?
I absolutely think this has been the best tv series I have ever seen! I have never felt so immersed in a show. I loved how all the actors portrayed the characters. . And in the process I've learnt a lot about the history and formation of England!
Oh watch Vikings! Both shows are great but IMO Vikings is so much more thrilling and encompassing
that show sucks 😂😂😂
I have never in my life loved a show more.
@@rustyshackleford9017 you're crazy. Most people jump off when Ragnar dies. The final 2 seasons are the best. Best ending to a show EVER.
@@blade1300 X for big doubt
Just finished watching the last kingdom and without doubt it is the best thing I’ve ever seen on tv in my 54 years on this planet, not a single episode was disappointing, well done to all the actors and crew,FANTASTIC 👍👍👍
This deserve many awards the academy is bias!
I agree. Started it again after I finished the series and I never do that. Was truly a phenomenal show.
I have watched it multiple times from first to last. The characters are so compelling.
It’s definitely my favorite show of all time nothings ever made me feel that way
It’s the worst show I’ve ever watched in my life. The books were so good then the show is just soo bad comparatively.
I binged this series earlier this year as I was recovering from a surgery & I literally became depressed after I watched the ending! This was hands down the greatest show I’ve ever seen!
Such a bitter(AF) sweet ending
Hello Annie👋👋, how are you doing today?????
Great. I'm almost there😢
It ain't over. It will end with a 2 hour follow up movie named 7 kings must die.
@@Obby_Unsk it really is. uhtred goes through so much and receives so little. I haven’t read the books but I imagine his story ends in a similar fashion.
For those that don't know, The last Kingdom is getting a movie. It's called Seven Kings Must Die.
When is it coming out?

Last Kingdom and the show Vikings are massively underrated!!!!
First of all I love your screen name because I also am an Eagles fan. And I completely agree about the television shows especially the last Kingdom. My wife and I are watching it for the second time.
The last kingdom has made me cringe too many times. Horrible writing, illogical actions that yield the same horrible results again and again, the characters never learn and seem to continuously allow the treasonous snakes among them to destroy their people. One conclusion: the writer has his own view on what life was like back then, and it's a rather condemning view he has, seems he thinks people were idiotic fools.
@@Phobos1483 it's based on a series of books. First complaint of its kind I've heard. The history isn't all there but the show gets great reviews .
The books are great
@@odenoki9571 Imagine that of a series set in England during the Viking era. It's an outrage.
The Last Kingdom is by far my favorite series, wish it could continue. Then I find out that Uhtred the Bold is my 27x grandfather through his daughter Ealdgyth! Suffice it to say that I was just giddy to find I was descended from the historical Earl of Northumberland!
Hello distant cousin ! I'm also descended from the Ughtred family as my grandmother was called Helen Oughtred and Bernard Cornwell is a cousin of mine . Pleasure to meet you .
I always thought that this show could never beat Vikings. But I gave it a chance.
I’m now on season 4 and love the series
So does it beat the vikings...?
I've never seen vikings, is it worth watching?
FrigidLava it’s a really good show too! You’ll love it if you give it a chance. It’s not as historically accurate as TLK, but it’s still definitely worth watching
tatenda mudarikwa when it comes to how accurate it is, it does. But I can’t choose on which one I like more as a whole
@@frigidlava617 ….Vikings is a wonderful show, I watched that first then watched TLK. love them both, give it a go , I’m sure you’ll really enjoy it.
I loved the series and most definitely adored Uhtred as a character and hero! I honestly feel that the hero was played magnificently by the actor Alexander Dreymon and what a gorgeous looking man! I adored him!
So did I !!!
I liked that Bernard Cornwell dedicated the lady book in the series to Alexander Dreymon
Lindo? Deveria existir um outro adjetivo para a beleza total que ele recebeu de Deus.
Hello beautiful
I fell in love with Sigtryggr. I even bought a throw blanket with him on it. Lol. True!
Literally watched the series so i could get to the movie and man did i fall in love and finish the lot in a couple days.
I started rewatching the show immediately after finishing it, I'm already on season 2 again after 2 days
Hahah sameeeee, its the best ever series i have ever watched
I've watched the entire series 3 times. Such an incredible saga. Great characters, fascinating and rivetting history and story lines that keep you engaged at every stage. An amazing show.
This is a series of books by Bernard Cornwell. The books are even better than the show!
Alexander Dreymon is such an amazing actor. When Uhtred cried, I bawled like baby. I felt all his pain and all his happiness. I would love more Viking movies based on history. This series was so interesting and all the actors did an amazing job except for Skade. Thank goodness her role wasn't long lived.
Km.
Fr
Yeah her character was pretty corny
The books The Saxon Stories that were the inspiration for the show are among my absolute favorites. Cornwell's descriptive writing draws you in and the description of battle makes you feel like you're there.
Uhtred is a hero and SO handsome in the movie. Could look at him forever! And he is a great actor. They were wonderful together. The actors. Loved this series💞
These videos always remind me that after our death, all that remains are our actions and name. It is both scary but also humbling and peaceful.

Absolutely loved Vikings and valhala now The last Kingdom 👌loved all the history about all the different kings and the viking leaders, Watch them all you won't be disappointed, we need more of these programs
More last kingdom content coming out !!
Loved The Last Kingdom. I read all the books. They are excellent
For anyone who may be interested, Bernard Cornwell also wrote "The Winter King" trilogy about King Arthur, chronicled through the eyes of the protagonist Derfel. It is being optioned for a series, and is every bit the story equal to The Saxon Chronicles.
It seems lime along of the people commenting don't know there is a book series the show is based on lol the book series is fantastic and now I'm going to look for this winter king trilogy
@@jordanbradley3819 I can highly recommend it! For gritty, dark worlds you might also like Joe Abercrombie. If you've never read any of his stuff.
I just finished The Last Kingdom and enjoyed it so much (and the Vikings show) that I want to read Cornwell's books. Looking at Goodreads, the majority of his novels seem to have really strong ratings, which is a great sign. I also really need to get into reading Joe Abercrombie XD

The Last Kingdom was one of the best shows I have watched since Game of Thrones! So many moments brought tears to my eyes. Rooting for Uthred every the of the way! #DestinyIsAll 👏
And mostly historically true too, at least with regards to all of the events, times, places, and most of the characters.
I had previously read that there were two or three Uhtreds (the first, second, etc.), and indeed, the great warrior did come later, as pointed out here. I assume that Uhtred (in 'The Last Kingdom') represents them all, as well as any great general/warrior/strategist who would have been a vital part of any of the various kings' armies, and of whom would have been greatly depended upon, though not necessarily documented in history. Anyway, 'The Last Kingdom' is a fantastic series which just gets better and better with each season!
I have just finished The Last Kingdom and it is stunningly fantastic 👏 I was taken into the Daneland from the moment go until the very end. Not a dull moment. Excellent 👍
Great to learn the historical facts of Uhtred of Babbenburg. I just loved the series, “The Last Kingdom”. Even though the series was not formed around the historic timeline, the series piqued my interest in the historical characters themselves 🤔
The books the show is based on are fantastic. Bernard Cornwell, who wrote them is an excellent historical fiction writer.
❤️♥️💕💙💙
This has been the best series I have ever seen. Now have my husband watching it so he’ll understand the movie when released. Can’t wait. Perfect choices for each actor. ❤
My favorite show ever, along with Titantic. Alexander Dreymon did a fantastic job in the role of Uhtred and it is hard to see him as any other character. I raise my cup to all the actors and how well they played their characters.
I only started watching The Last Kingdom a month ago. And yes, I've finished the 5 seasons, and enjoyed them! Thank you for this history of Ultred! I look forward to the 7 Kings must die!
Absolutely love this series. Loved Bamburgh castle when I went there years ago and so knew the story but this series so brought it to life. Love Uthred.
ABSOLUTELY adored The Last Kingdom and the star is gorgeous ❤️
I read a book in Jail called "The Pagan Lord" by Bernard Cornwell. It was a page turner for sure.
His books about King Arthur are excellent also. I like that he writes it from a military and historical perspective instead of a fantasy one.
I'm looking for summer reads, I'll check it out!

No we don't! It has been Media'd to death.
Wow, I always wondered how the exile came about with Æthelred the “Unready”. Lo and behold, Uhtred played a part in that. Incredibly interesting.
I dwell in the LAND of the Prince Bishops, of Old Dunelm, once of Danelaw once of the Kingdom of Bernicia north of the Shires. County Durham. The Cross of Saint Cuthbert is at the present flying on my flagpole in my back garden, the Durham Flag, and today is Saint Cuthberts Day.
Love the series. At season 4 now. I was convinced by a friend to give it a chance because I loved vikings
Already finished I assume? I would rank this right after Vikings. Nothing else comes close to both
I also loved this series and the books too. I wish more of Bernard Cornwell's books were TV series.

he doesn’t have to be..
Edmund ironside sounds like a cool character, respected by both sides and an amazing swordsman
He truly was! Check out my video on him!
It is beyond sickening that an upstart like the opportunistic Godwin's son, Harold "the last Anglo Saxon king" will come around to remove King Edmund's grandson from the legitimate throne of the House of Wessex. It came good to Godwinson his comeuppance in Senlac hill, for usurpation.... however at the price to lose all England for the Saxons to the French Normans
Really glad this came up in my feed. I enjoyed it and learned something!

im still waiting for the season 5. i cant wait to see more Uthred's adventures. the best series on netflix
Wonderful true historical piece. Love this stuff. Love the Last Kingdom show. It's obviously not even 50% historically accurate but some of the themes of characters even whole families and people being stuck between Saxon and Dane at the time and the stress of uniting England and the Church are true historical themes and the story does justice to that I think.
Infelizmente a série deixou a desejar! A história vai além do que fou contada e o final, bem mesmo com o filme, Deus pra dar um final correto
Thanks for the Awesome History Lesson

Vikings Valhala [series - Amazing!]
Set more than 100 years after the events of Vikings, the Netflix series has followed the increased tensions between the Vikings and the native English, as well as the warring factions of the traditional pagan Vikings and those with Christian beliefs. Focusing on the adventures of famous Vikings Leif Eriksson, Freydis Eriksdottir and Harald Sigurdsson, the first season began with the St Brice's Day Massacre in 1002, and the show has the potential to continue on until 1066, considered the end of the Viking age by many historians.

I think this is correct
Great video. Point of fact, the word viking is actually a verb rather than a noun. It refers to the practice of seaborne raiding into 'enemy lands to steal silver, cattle or whatever else they could lay their hands on, killing any who put up any resistance. To go viking was to jump in a ship, head for foreign shores and loot, burn, rape and pillage, then sail home with the spoils. The people doing the viking were referred to as Danes, Norse, Svear and even Rus, although they all ultimately originated from Scandinavia. The Normans, noteable for one of their leaders 'William' who became known as the Conqueror, who invaded Saxon England in 1066, were also from Scandinavia, hence the denomination 'Norman' from 'Norse Men'. Very much enjoyed this video.
@@christophersayrs907 I’m only quoting back Bernard Cornwell when I say this. I don’t profess to having any deep insight into ‘Old Norse’. Not quite sure what you mean by ‘it referred to the actual undertaking and not the undertaking itself’. Could you explain further. If you have a deeper understanding of this then I’m perfectly prepared to accept your point of view. Bernard Cornwell had obviously done a great deal of research when he put this into the forward of the first book in the series ‘The Last Kingdom’. Could you provide your credentials? I’m very interested to know. I was always convinced that Vikings referred to the collective peoples who invaded England (and many other parts of Europe and further afield) during the 9th century and onwards. It was only reading BCs forward that convinced me otherwise.
@@christophersayrs907 and people do actually say ‘I tripped’ in more than one context 😂. Especially if they’ve been dabbling if you get my meaning😜. Just adding a little humour.
@@christophersayrs907 I get you. Somebody better tell Bernard lol.
@@christophersayrs907 But it is not a people? You seem to be getting very muddled., Whether it is a noun or a verb is not the issue here, the issue is whether it was actually applied to a specific group of people. Evidence would suggest that it was not. We had 'Pirates' but they could have been from anywhere. In fact Vikings and Pirates are very similar, in that they attacked from the sea, raped, pillaged, took slaves and went!
No one has every suggested that Pirate was a race? So why is Viking?
@@hogwashmcturnip8930 I disagree that the issue is "whether it was actually applied to a specific group of people," and thank you terribly much for foisting the muddiness upon me, while it appears that you, dear sir, are the one getting very muddled. "Viking" is a noun, and if you'd read above, it did apply to a very specific group: "a group of people related to Vik (perhaps Erik, but this reference is, alas, lost). It ALSO applies to a raid by those related to Vik, and even a ship owned/used by a group of people related to Vik. "Pirates," take anyone as you said, so your analogy is poor, indeed. Did you read above? Wuffing means those related to Wuffa and Viking means those related to Vik. C'mon now. Read.

I can actually trace my ancestry directly back to Lady Alice Stourton de Berkeley, from which point I can further trace my ancestry directly back to Alfred the Great, Cnut the Great, and Uhtred the Bold. I know that makes me just one of millions, but it makes this story all the more interesting to me. I'd be happy to share details of the lineage if you're interested.
Bernard Cornwell is one of my favorite authors and I have read the Uhtred series of novels.
Knowing that he is a descendant o the great man makes me want to read them all again from that perspective.
