This is awesome. Finan is hilarious, loved Uhtred, Finan, Sihtric and Osferth's friendship so much.
I mean, honestly, the friendship between them is what sold this show to me so much. (Because while Sharpe will try to sell Harper and Sharpe as good pals, they feel like work friends, while Uthred, Finan, Sihtric and Osferth friendship feels like they are genuine bros.)
And because they are good friends, it lends emotional weight to important moments, such as when people like Osferth, Halig or Clappa die, which in turn makes the audience more likely to care.

Just finished the 5 seasons last night (at 5am 😅) . The entire show I was constantly going "Protect Finan at all costs!!!" He's the only thing that kept it upbeat and fun.
Every time they were caught offguard or something, I'd be like "Not Finan!! They're coming for Finan, man!!"
Clearly scarred from my GOT days.

Finan its an amazing comedian, Sihtric's face talk by himself and Osferth just delivers the best moments to drop the joke.
They are the same trio that would fight Jesus with Infinite Stones if Uhtred was in danger.

It's what sold it to me. It helps when I watch a show and everyone is so serious all the time.
The best ever trio of characters ... Great casting. Finan always says, 'what's the plan, Lord', and Uhtred never had a plan. Finan would say, I know that look, Lord, you have no plan...Uhtred laughs and they follow him anyway .. ❤️
The comedy was one of the things that made this show stand out so much. They made a great historical fantasy drama and fantastic characters with a proper amount of bl0odshed but it was the comedy that made me pause and rewind because i couldn't stop laughing .
This is right up there with supernatural for me 😂😂😂
After seeing Season 5 and knowing everything that happens by the end, all this did was make me emotional more than laugh 😭😭

You can easily tell they were ad-libbing and corpsing in many of these and these were the best takes. One of the best ensembles I have ever seen in a series. Genuinely sad it's over.

Well... this actually sounds like a lot of fun tbh, About as historical as a kick in the arse with a pair or rubber sneakers, mind, but still fun.
Yes. The actual history of this period is pretty miserable all around, and not much of a story except for scholars.
Tbh they're adapting book series that leans very heavily on the "make an awesome story" and doesn't care much about historical accuracy. It's more about vibes and aesthetics than trying to be true to the history, which, to be fair, is also pretty mired by bias and legend. And they do a good job adapting the first book. They age up Uhtred so that one actor plays him the whole time which I think is a mistake and the direction for Aethelwold is a Choice, but it's almost replicated episode by chapter. Both are pretty good if you can go at it from an AU history standpoint.
@@brookb5890 I agree, history is pretty much guesswork at times. I am still confident that history did NOT include vests made from PVC, but I think I can ignore that for this one.
@@OmnivorousReader I've seen a garment historian having a mental breakdown over how bad the costumes were (he said it was the worst costume design he saw on tv post-90s) but I've also read the interviews with the producers and they said, they had a very tight budget from the beginning and had to improvise a lot. They never expected the show to become so popular and then they didn't want to completely change the style once the budget increased mid-series.
@@kings4300 I think, here, the costumes are so bad that it is possible to ignore them. With Vikings, for example, it was harder because SOME bits looked ok, that just made the bikie boots and emo haircuts harder to bear.

Uhtred and his friends are genuinely my favorite, like I don’t trust anyone who doesn’t like them 😂 despite being vikings and in wars they feel like brothers and sisters goofing around and i'm all here for it.
