    This is probably one the best videos on the Minoan culture told in 11+ minutes that I've seen. You covered everything that is both the most interesting and important for someone that is looking for a brief introduction to the topic. Great visuals and story telling. Very well done. This one is going on my "recommendation" playlist. I loved it.

    Fascinating to learn more about Minoans. I imagine them in a fantasy universe with minotaurs serving as their elite heavy infantry. and Talos and possibly other bronze giants as their siege weapons.

      There was only one Minotaur, the punishment of Minos from Poseidon for not sacrificing the white bull, Poseidon made the wife of Minos to fall in love with the bull and do the nasty 😉 with the bull.
      His wife got pregnant and gave birth to Minotaur, half man half bull.
      It could simply be teratogenesis, a child born with a dismorphy that the priests said it was a punishment for gods for not following the rituals of gods.

    • @ziljin
      @ziljin Před 2 lety +3

      @@annas4843 yes I know there was only one minotaur in Greek mythology. But in a fantasy universe it doesn't have to be 100% accurate. Like in warcraft games one continent has minotaurs, centaurs and harpies fighting against each other. It can't be a coincidence that the island is full of Greek mythological creatures. But their version of minotaur is based on Native Americans and their centaurs are based on Mongolians so maybe it was just a coincidence

    • @annas4843
      @annas4843 Před 2 lety +2

      @@ziljin well in Creta it was based on the fact that the wife had s3x with a bull.
      The monstrous looking children, or teratogenesis, used to be though as punishment from Gods, something unnatural.
      It’s good when you learn about a civilization to also understand what kind of social norm they were trying to describe, not just what is shown in video games which is for entertainment purposes.

    The Minoan supreme goddess is likely a manifestation of mother nature (proto-Gaea) and/or Chaos.
    It is interesting consider that the Titans might have been the gods of the post-Minoan Greeks, and the Olympians the gods of the classical Greeks. The usurpation of each successive pantheon of gods may well be what is recorded in Greek mythology.

    One thing, that I didn't notice at first, you claim that Minoans arrived to Greece during the Middle Paleolithic, 128,000 BC. That 's not the main topic of this video, but where did you get such data? The only thing that comes to my mind is the skull of Apidima 1, which is really found in Greece and dated to the Middle Paleolithic. The owner of the skull had probobly been a mixture of Anathomically Modern Human and Neanderthal. But it is not 128,000 years old, but around 210,000 years old. Secondly, the fact that a group of anatomically modern humans had arrived to Europe already in these times, doesn't certainly mean that they are the direct ancestors of later Europeans. This early exodus from out of Africa either died out or mixed with the Neanderthals that inhabited Europe at the time. Anatomically Modern Human began to replace Neanderthals in Europe around 45,000 years ago, and this was a completely new migration from out of Africa. But the ancestors of the Minoans were probably mainly Anatolian farmers who arrived to Europe around 7,000 BC.

    Only problem with your assertion that Atlantis was a legend based off of the Minoans is that it does not match the story told by plato. Why would some things be similar, and others be completely different. 🤔. I absolutely love the history and the learning of the fascinating Minoans. The history of the Atlantians is still to be drawn out. It is not a settled matter.

      Idk man. It is most likely that. However, the history of the story of atlantis actually dated back to ancient egypt. Plato got the details of Atlantis from them. So, perhaps, there COULD be at least some truth to Atlantis. I’m not going on a crazy conspiracy here, I’m just saying. “Atlantis” could have existed, in some way. Maybe not the fantastical amazing civilization that we think of today.

    geneticists compared the frequencies of distinct DNA lineages, known as "haplogroups", in this ancient Minoan set with similar data for 135 other populations, including ancient samples from Europe and Anatolia as well as modern peoples.
    The comparison ruled out an origin for the Minoans in North Africa: the ancient Cretans showed no genetic similarity to Libyans, Egyptians or the Sudanese. They were also genetically distant from populations in the Arabian Peninsula, including Saudis, and Yemenis.
    The ancient Minoan DNA was most similar to populations from western and northern Europe. The population showed particular genetic affinities with Bronze Age populations from Sardinia and Iberia and Neolithic samples from Scandinavia and France.
    They also resembled people who live on the Lassithi Plateau today, a population that has previously attracted attention from geneticists.
    The authors therefore conclude that the Minoan civilisation was a local development, originated by inhabitants who probably reached the island around 9,000 years ago, in Neolithic times.

      Idiot is still a greek word though, it means "own or private". Idiot originally meant a person who is only after their own interest, not the interest of the many. This was perceived as stupidity in greece, for when people put their own (private) interest before the common good, there comes a time where their own interest is also not served. Whereas, if they put the common good first, their private interest would be served in the long run too. Cretan and cretin are not related, but it's a fun pun 😉
