- We're back to working on our project "Cheap Cherokee" and we're making our own bumpers with one of the coolest tools we've ever had in our shop. Then, we're off to Orlando Florida for Matco's Tool Expo and we're taking our Cherokee with us. We're not only going to get some great help on our Cherokee but, we'll also be checking out some of the newest tools on the market. And after all that, we'll start a real-world test on a system that promises to give your more miles per gallon.

People shaking hands, taking photographs all up close and personal.
"Cheap Cherokee"... Frame straightener, plasma cutting cnc table, tube bender, professional paint job, an entire Matco truck full of tools... Yeah sure I've got all of that in my garage too lol.
they spend alot of money on making it look good, wish they would keep it rough like a real cheap build
Cheap Cherokee huh. I'm into mine around 1100 including the cost of the jeep😄 flares and tires alone are probably close to 800 to 1k depending on tires wheels and if you bought a set of 4
I mean the jeep was free or so they say and it still cost 6500. Thats not cheap
Exactly! lol you dont need any of that shit to make a sweet Cherokee it helps but I could make a Cherokee just a cool as that if not better with a welder a set of torches and junk parts off of junk vehicles lol
They were in a hurry and didn't have time to cut the sheet metal by hand, so they took 5 hours to set up a cnc cutter that can cut it in 10 minutes.
🤣💀
WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU DOING!?!?!? You cant go cutting pinch seams out on UNIBODY vehicles! Cutting those rear fenders out like that just destroyed that Jeep. The proper way to modify the rear wheel arch is to cut vertical lines between the pinch welds and fold the sheetmetal inward to maintain the strength of the body. I have personally seen Jeeps that had the wheel arch cut out like you have done here and it caused all kinds of issues with panel gaps, excessive flexing in the rear body, and rust will now run rampant no matter what you do to fix it. I've also heard of it causing the rear windows to become prone to popping out, if you end up with that issue, good luck sourcing 2 door XJ windows. You've also drastically altered the safety of the vehicle, if it gets rear-ended or rolls over, the damage will be FAR greater than if those seams were left intact.
Very disappointed a high budget show like this would do something like this, even following the directions that come with cut-out flares it CLEARLY states not to cut the pinch welds and shows the proper way to install. It's also common knowledge in the Jeep community that cutting those pinch welds out is a death sentence for an XJ.
Came looking for a comment about cutting out the spot welds in the pinch seam! Yep, unless they did a bunch of sheet metal work and welding to repair the rear opening that XJ is hurtin'!
I'm glad you said something to me about that. Both of my Cherokees are stcok, and I knew nothing about needing to cut the seams vertically. Thankfully, I've never cut my seams, so I'm good. 😊I plan to keep it stock anyway, so I will be going with stock fender flares. I have a mew motor and trans in one of them already and the other has 287k. Unfortunately they both need windshields. I will keep this knowledge in mind in case anyone ever asks. 😊
I was hoping that they would’ve shown how they fixed it. I was thinking they were going to weld it back together or something but nope. I have a 2-door XJ and will not be cutting the pinch welds in the rear.
The concept of this build is great, but starting with a 5k frame straightener followed by a 5k laser cutter to make custom bumpers..... C'mon ya missed the mark a bit...
See my video series on a real cheap jeep xj
Wonderful tools!!!Excellent transformation of Cherokee 👌👌
wonder how pitted the paint from the mig welder during the front bumper assembly, they did say they have paint left over LMFAO
I remember back in the day the guys on JeepForum ripping this episode apart, especially the terrible front bumper. Ryan even joined the forum and acknowledged it was not a good design and not strong at all.
Just destroyed the quarter panels on the Cherokee.....These clowns should watch some bleepin jeep!!
Nice that expo was at the caribe royale in Kissimmee Fl very nice 5star suites ive stayed there for the R.E.T.A. CONVENTION
Frame tie in strengthener for that front bumper would have helped. Plus the unibody isn't going to like be cut up like that on the rear fenders. Not the way do that on an XJ.
12:07 if you see it, you'll be laughing too!😆
My first Jeep had the rear side louvers. Is there anyway to put them on a 2001 XJ?
Umm... you guys cut out the pinch seam. LOL
I just learned this, too. 🤦
Find a couple of strong trees, some decent chains and the ole 25 ton log splitter behind the wood shed and the sheet metal will give.
Or you could bolt up the chain to the body then wrap it around a tree and slam it in reverse
Nice infomercial .
That diesel thing they bolted on actually work?
With stricter emission laws from year to year (little exaggerated), CO2 in the focus, and the direct correlation between consumption and CO2 emission: if it would be that easy to save on a few drops of diesel, OEMs would put those things in every car.
Or long story short: nope.
You guys need to build a 572 ford big block
When does the cheap part happen?
What paint color blue is that code please
Dang-gum...its Tommy!
but the rear.... dirt and rust is gonna fill that second panel now that the welds are gone.
oh yeah, sure, Orlando is like on the different planet, right?
did this jeep ever get dyno'd with the new engine?
The only thing cheap about the Jeep is it’s quality :))
The quality isn’t even cheap.... they work they did was spectacular lol
This series is a number of years old. Can the editors put the original release date up in the description?
This isn’t a current episode.
Watch the end of the video. ALL these videos have copyright dates at the end..........
Who installs the rear flares like that.
Its pretty typical to cut the arch away like that if you're going with wider wheels and tires and need more clearance during articulation. The only time you wouldn't cut them is if they're being used as mud guards, and you're not worried about the tires contacting the existing arches.
He means the inner skin is not connected to the outer skin. Its a damn hole.
@@Canuckrz the XJ is a unibody vehicle and it drastically reduces the strength of the body to cut those pinch seams out. It clearly states in the instructions for cut-out flares for an XJ to not cut them like that. They need to be cut vertically between the pinch welds and folded inward. I feel bad for whoever ends up with this Jeep after they are done with it because its going to be a lot less safe on the road and is already starting to rust out in there.
@@dakota.zimmerman I see, thanks for the info. As far as the next person who gets it goes you don't have to worry, most of the vehicles they make on these shows end up crushed unfortunately. Adam Stacy the OG Trucks host talked about it before and it was part of the reason why he ended up going over to Gearz.
@@Canuckrz wow that's just sad. I suppose it's a liability if they sell it to someone with all the "upgrades" they do. That's good to know tho, I have found some companies just don't care about how hard it is to find things. I've had a similar run-in with a company that would throw out Sega Genesis game cases because "they take up too much space". Irreplaceable and very hard to find for us who don't have money to throw at everything. Lost a lot of respect for this show now. Wish there were more like roadkill where they actually care about the vehicles and will get anything back on the road.
Google the plasma table ah no not affordable. U need to request a quote but any similar looking table is like 8 gs so yeah nice toy
I have a series on real cheap jeep Cherokee
💪👍
That blue looks like the same color Michigan State Police use for their vehicles.
I thought is was a cheap jeep that one looks and cost more than mine xj
Where are Episodes 5 & 6 of this Cherokee fix???? C-mon Man.
PLEASE POST BUMPER PLANS
That is not how you cut cherokee quarter panels at all
No Prep Stretch holy shit please explain
No Prep Stretch alright I thought you were trying to say the owner of the jeep is racist but ok
Love the low buck idea for this build. However that being said.. Who really has the money for the Super Duper Extra Deluxe Plasma cutter you used? SMH...
I live in middle tennessee pretty close to y’all and i would pay y’all to make me bumper for my 98 xj
How is this "CHEAP" Cherokee when all the tools you use are what most people won't have access to?
Outside of the frame setup and plasma table every guy has hand tools and a few power tools.
So much for cheap jeep huh
First painting the shell and then cutting the wheel arches off and leave them exposed to rust? .... Ok
All that splatter on new paint
bumper should have been black
Project Cheap Cherokee...if you have a shop full of $100k in tools and $100k in student loans for glorified shop classes. Way to keep it real PN
You beat me to it... everything"budget" is white collar budget. It's like this every time...and Ryan seems like a pretentious DBag.
Can't help you made poor life choices.
@@bmstylee who said anything about life choices? It's literally titled Cheap Cherokee...fn Tard
@@bmstylee yeah... assuming I made bad choices albeit I did is very judgemental considering you don't know me from Adam...yet that actually is my name. However bad my decisions were I have recovered from them and still stand behind the original comment.
Nice cameo by the beautiful Courtney Hansen...boy, do I miss seeing that beautiful lady on my tv screen. :(
30 minute infomercial for Matco......... 😒
Ok CHEAP JEEP cnc plasma table like 4'×4' ? That shit costs 2× eveything the jeep has?
😁✌🖖👌👍😎
