  • New kind of video for me but you have to start somewhere. Since its ok for me to get stuck with all of these lights since all I do is jeeps. I decided to try to do test like these and then sell the tested items. Just an idea I had floating around that was easy to try, but I hope to venture off to bigger better stuff saving you money to find out what is best bang for buck!!

    That first set of leds just reminds me of how irritated I get driving at night when I come across someone who has led or hid in a non projector housing. No light focus, no cutoff line, just throwing light everywhere blinding everyone.

    After I bought my 1996 XJ in 2017 I was amazed by the poor quality of the stock headlights. After much research, I bought the IPF H-4 lights that use the H-4 bulb. I use the Sylvania Silver Star bulbs and with the IPF headlights are a 100% improvement over the stock sealed beams. Unlike the sealed beams, when one burns out, you only change the bulbs not the whole light assembly. I may try some LED bulbs if the Sylvania's ever burn out.

      I did the same. HELLA H4 headlights. Honestly, I wasn't super impressed with the lighting improvement. While bulb replacement will be nice when it comes to that, I really wanted some more brightness.
      I got a new headlight relay harness kit from K suspension. I haven't gotten around to installing yet, but I'm hoping that'll really make them shine.

    Been rocking good ol' Halogen Housings with Phillips Vision Plus Bulbs in them. Really like them in the winter time when it snows as they tend to burn ice off vs the LED's. HID's in Projector housings should be outlawed IMO with how blinding those things are to other drivers at night.

      I've got a similar "fix" but no where on road fix. 8 aux LED lights 4 spot 4 flood. With them on you can't tell if headlights are on or off. And you can spot deer on sides of the road 1/4 mile away or so.

    when I bought my XJ, it had some nobrand LED lights that were white on high beam and amber on low beam. They worked ok, but I only had the one usable highbeam mode, so I wanted to change them. I wound up getting the relay harness kit from K Suspension, and a cheap set of sealed beams out of a junk yard cherokee. They now outperform almost any LED replacements that I have seen, and they still have a very nice throw pattern. I want to get some of the H4 housings, and some good H4 bulbs to get that little bit more performance.
    But I 100% recommend that K suspension harness. It runs the headlights straight off the battery with a relay, so you don't get the voltage drop of going through the in-cab switch

    K is for kelvin = temperature (aka - color) of the light. 3000k is yellowish and 6000k is white with some blue, 2500k to 3800k is best for cutting through weather and dust etc. Sorry i was bored. Thanks for the solid content DEX ! Also HID's work best in a projector housing or any led bulb that has 360 degrees of lighting. double sided LED bulbs work best in a reflector housing. As always the light is only as good as the housing its in!

    I went with the Hella vision plus h4 and paired it with the h4 conversion harness. so far a major improvement and all I need, keeps that classic look and better than stock, just need to aim mine properly. hardest part was routing the wiring in place in 19 degree weather with the wind blowing lol. Also they arent ticket getters' and wont freeze over, LED's are just gimmicky to me, fine for some applications but not my choice for headlights in appearance or performance for my xj.

  • @MalarkeyTaylor
    @MalarkeyTaylor Před 5 měsíci

    Hey Dex finished witching the rest of the video. I've been through a bunch of the cheap amazon/ebay headlights too. And one thing to note, for us XJ guys... The XJ's that have factory fog lights will not like the LED bulbs much. Especially ones with the "accent" , "DRL" or turn signals in them. I found that the only way to stop them from making the high beam relay buzz was to clip the one wire on the driver side harness, and install a stand alone harness with relays. once that was solved the high beam and low beam and foglight behavior was better for some of the 80-100$ ones.

    A hood-mounted camera would have been great. Even just a GoPro at linear. If you were to hold your finger on the phone directly where the headlight is it will expose for the bright light so it shows better. I've been using these for almost 2 years. HWSTAR 2022 180W 1000% Bright H6054. The high beams are great. The low beams project wider than standard lights but not as far out. I like the wider as it helps see joggers who are out with no lights. You can definitely go down a rabbit hole doing these light comparison videos. I want to pick through that salvage yards Cherokees.

    Here’s a tip for the extra wires since you said you didn’t know what they’re for. They’re meant for the running lights. You tie the wiring into the running lights either in the blinker or side marker and when you put the running lights on. It turns on the yellow one the third pair or the half moons on the other pairs

    Gotta watch what kind of lights u get. Some are offroad non dot lights for offroad use "only" and they are usually the cheap ones are offroad and not for road use. Also the beam pattern or style is important can't compare floods to spots. And if it says dot on it then its dot compliant and rated for road use. The lens inside the lights that are different means some have a spot and flood beam.
