Pretty neat. It would be cool if you could buy 1 lamp base and a bunch of pieces of acrylic instead of 10 lamps lol.
ShishkaBerry i make these with custom designs, i can easily do a number of inserts!
buy a piece of acrylic, draw some yourself.
xureality drawing takes time, i use a laser engraver
Micheal Edmond how much do you charge for custom made lamps? How would I contact you? Is your base the same or better?
Michael Edmond You do company logos?
Love variety. It's tech so it fits the channel fine.
Do like the puppets whenever possible though :)
I'm always a bit disappointed about the lack of moaning though. Could add some softcore porn sound effects at least.
No the puppet bit is very annoying. I think you should drop that crap all together.
nobeac, it's at the end, just don't watch that part.
yeah nobeac...don't watch it !!!
That's the best video about 3D illusion novelty 3D lamps I've ever seen
Led.customlights Instagram
I'm pretty sure I want one of these...although, I have to say that I would have *begged* for one as a kid. I was obsessed with lava lamps and plasma lamps, but I could never get one. At the end of the day, when a birthday rolled around and my parents basically gave me the option of some video game stuff or a lava lamp, it was an easy choice that never resulted in a lava lamp.
As always..."Thanks for sharing!" I always look forward to your videos. they are always informative and entertaining. The extreme detail you put into your work always impresses me and to me...makes them so enjoyable.
Even on a slow news day, Techmoan is still entertaining and informative.
Thank you for consistently putting out great content. You are appreciated, sir.
I absolutely love everything you put out. please never ever stop!
I was just sat here wishing for a Techmoan video and 5 mins later up pops this. I enjoy these slight steps to the side videos as much as the mainstream ones you produce. Quite impressed with the 3D effect from some of those designs. Thanks for another great video.
I dread the day I've seen every Techmoan video and my binge has to end. Then I'll actually have to wait until the next one comes out. I need instant gratification. 😲
of course R2D2 will not work as a 3D... its just R2D2 not R3D2
Uk2014Ch funny
Uk2014Ch you mean r2d3? I think this cause dimension 3..?
@@BlockyBoyMG no its R*2D*2 get it 2D nvm
I want the hologram Leia from episode 4 and the hologram palpatine from episode 3
Dad joke of the year award goes to... 😂
You could send one of the bases to Big Clive to dismantle and give his opinion on the circuitry and safety. That would be an interesting collaboration.
stupot42 well there's not much about safety issue.. It's just a simple 5v circuit.. But he would change the LEDs to pink I guess
The 10 second shot of the circuitry is enough to see that it's an 8pin micro with three driver transistors (with base resistors), according series resistors for the LEDs and one supply smoothing cap. The touch sensor will be a ready made module. There also apparently are versions that run on batteries. That's all. The thing is as safe as the USB power supply you use.
Big Clive probably will understand that pcb and draw its schematic in 2 min xD.
superdau is exactly right. A plain 9V battery is more dangerous than anything in the base itself, and Clive has probably taken apart several USB power adapters identical to the one this comes with. The only thing even remotely interesting is the capacitive touch sensor, and that will just be an IC doing all the interesting stuff and a drop-down resistor.
Some manufacturer in China is making bank on a circuit that a beginner electronics engineer could probably whip up in a few hours.
Big Suck
Another awesome review. And as always, kudos for taking things apart - a lot of us have this "Don't turn it on, take it apart"-mentality as well :)
You're really the only human left on CZcams. Thanks for such satisfying videos👍
WOW!!! You have a BUTT-LOAD of supporters there, guy!!! Lucky YOU!👌
I sort of lost count after around 250 or so... whew!
If each gives you at least 5 US dollars a month, that would equal... maybe even EXCEED... what Uncle Sam gives this-here 70-years "Old-fart" EACH MONTH! lol
And you know what? You deserve each and EVERY bit because of what YOU provide for us.
THANK YOU, SIR!✨🤗✨
I think you strike the perfect balance between old tech videos and from time to time new or interesting tech stuff videos
Dear Mr Techmoan.
I thought that I saw the pain in your eyes when you spoke of the "couple weeks" you spent on the Mini-disk video. I would like to tell you that I really appreciated the Mini-disk video and how you didn't really go into the tech side.
Mini-disk was a big part of my life also. Even though I am not a tech person it was something I have been waiting for since I discovered your channel in the last year or more.
One day in the future I shall sign up as a Patreon.
Your biggest fan in Fujian Province, China.
DJH
Even your quick videos are so fun to watch!
this is one of my favorite channels on CZcams! thank you for making great content. . .cheers!
bigclive would love this..
I doubt that. Not dangerous enough and also not pink!
Was going to comment exactly that!
Heck, I could see Big Clive drawing out a schematic for that LED board in the base!
He would complain that there is no serial number on the control chip.
Ha! I was just going to comment that too!
I love the first design you showed! I’d definitely put that up in my studio!
Mine has a layered lacquered plywood base.
The included USB socket did not work and looked very cheaply made.
It came with a remoter with on/off, 16 colours selection, 4 cycling modes and brightness adjustment.
The motif is the Death Star. Looks great among my Star Wars items :)
Good gawd man! You make even the simplest of things interesting. Thanks for the vid.
pierre from New Mexico
I bought one of these about six months ago; the R2D2 with the black base like shown in your video. It's pretty cool.
Some facts:
1. The switch is not a touch switch. It appears to be a proximity switch. You don't need to to touch the switch. Hold your finger about 1/8 inch above the switch (don't touch it) for about 1/2 a second and then remove your finger and this will trigger the switch. It works this way on my unit.
2. The black plastic case is cheap plastic. Mine had some spots on it that looked like water spots. I tried cleaning it with Windex window cleaner or rubbing alcohol, I don’t' remember which one, and it started to dissolve the case.
Good info. I've been trying to find a circuit for a button that would work through glass. This might be a good path to pursue.
I have seen modules for these type of non contact switches for sale, but I don't remember where. Maybe try ebay, Sparkfun, etc. There are also ICs you can buy and make your own circuit. They are supposed to work through thin layers of wood, plastic, etc. I would think glass too. I've thought it would be cool to build some project with no visible power switch, just move your hand near a certain place and the item turns on.
mine is touch if I use two fingers it dont work
Hi man can you give me your id or email I have some question about your light thx
I've been waiting all week for a new techmoan video! I've already seen all the rest.
If I'd had that first one in my dark bedroom as a child, I'd be convinced it looked like the face of an evil teddy bear. In fact I already am convinced of it, the evil bear is staring into my soul.
Thank you so much for including a Canada link. So many CZcams creators forget about us!
becoming my favourite channel 👍
I love your videos start to finish. Thank you.
Techmoan that was a great video, thanks for sharing. I wanted to also say my families prayers are with every Britain after what happened this week.
Techmoan, the only channel with two intros.
Awesome channel btw
I thoroughly enjoy your videos...always interesting ☺
Thank you for doing a video on this! I saw this on Touch of Modern and was curious if it's really as amazing as it looked in the picture.
Enjoyed the video. I've seen pictures of these things online and I had no idea it was a flat piece of plastic with a design etched on it
thanks for posting this. I saw these all over Amazon and really wanted to see what it looks like from other angles
The designs of these aren't that hard to produce, though my method probably isn't the most efficient.
You can go into a program like Sketchup and make your 3d object, put a map on that object, and then find the angle you want it at, then project the object onto a 2d surface. Then you have to do more work to make it into a file a laser cutter/cnc engraver can use, then produce a physical copy.
Of course, there's probably more efficient ways, or easier ways to produce this. But using cad to project a 3d object onto a 2d surface would give you literally unlimited amounts of objects you can do this with.
Also, you should do one of those 'holographic' display things, it's basically a display that projects 4 images onto a pyramid of glass or acrylic, basically the clear material reflects the image into the center, and you get a 3d image based on reflections and stuff.
I think they're pretty cool, though large ones do take up a lot of space.
Quite a contrast to last week's Minidisc epic! liking the variety of the channel ☺️
And as others have said Big Clive needs to be taking a look at this lamp☺️
These lights look better than I expected !
oh hey I just realized something: a dense sandwich of 10 little edge-lit acrylic panels like this with separate LEDs and a single numeral etched in each could be used to make a fairly credible looking faux-Nixie display.
You should have your own show on TV, mate. Total pro.
Can you please review some digital radio "world" receivers which where very neat constructions in the 80's early 90's era, especially those made by SONY. With all these buttons and modules for signal. The are retro by now and the were rather pricey.
thank you for including the NL link in the description :)
Congratulations on 1 million subscribers
I love the brick wall segments, nice wall techmoan
As expensive as lighting options get it's good to see that some of the cheaper items are of more than adequate quality and would really set off a room.
Cheap tat? But where's the brown sofa?
TomGreen 99 funny ashens joke
TomGreen 99 'An excellent comment'
Quite wonderful, especially the first two examples.
Because of this video, I ended up buying the grim reaper LED one, for my horror channel videotaping, it's absolutely amazing to look at. Thanks, @Techmoan for this video. I am very happy with it!
There are "BAT+" and "BAT-" pads as well as some unpupulated circuitry on the PCB. That probably means that a rechargeable version of this thing exists. :)
Hmmm... could use one of these as a weekend project for a rechargeable version...
Is so interesting and good looking despite their simplicity. Pretty cool! ✌✌✌
More than worth it for the money.thanks Matty.
Thanks Matt, Yes I did enjoy your review. Cheers.
got the grey alien one,£13 off Ebay arrived in 10 days!I love it.Mine came with remote control,a wooden base,no touch switch.
Is so interesting and good looking despite their simplicity. Pretty cool!
I quite like these, simple, cheap(ish) and good ambient effect.
Dude this was a great vid I subbed and I liked b cause I was looking for a cool lamp thanks bro
How is it that you made a simple acrylic lamp sound so interesting? Keep up the good stuff!
Like Marvel movies, always wait around to the end of Techmoan videos. There might be a puppet show.
Hopefully not like Spiderman though.
Chaos Cornerc
I have one of these that came with star trek ship schematic acrylics, it's pretty neat. I'm working on trying to rig up something to mount one inside my computer and be illuminated by a section of my NZXT Hue lighting system.
I love the balance of tech on techmoan, it could be about anything but it's always interesting.
Love you Techymoan!
I have one of those!!! love it!
I'm glad Ashens isn't the only one reviewing tat.
Thanks for the video, I wondered how this things work... :-)
I had one of these and the USB connector on it did come loose from the PCB. It may have been a one off bad unit as the solder job on it was pretty poor compared to the one you have.
techmoan, i can make you an insert with a techmoan logo on it!
Michael Edmond do it and send to him
That would be good to see, make a nice video of how it's made and that's how you get on the road to CZcams success. How would you go about making it? Laser cutter?
Matt Tester yeah i have a big laser cutter and i design em myself, i have the bases like in this video or can make custom ones for shops and stuff. even made one for two whiskey glasses to sit on and the engraved glass lights up nice too!
He needs that on his shelf!
You should!!
Nice video, my daughter saw one of these in those 'pop up' shops but the price was so low and not knowing about the power requirements etc. I didn't get it for her. May now look into it. Thanks.
You make everything interesting.
I.. LOVE.. YOUR.. VOICE!
My favorite CZcams channel
Lootcrate actually has an acrylic LED lamp in the Future Tech gaming crate. It's "Pathfinder" themed around Mass Effect Andromeda. It isn't 3D, but it's still a cool little thing, and I'm very glad they did that so I didn't have to buy one myself. I might buy one anyway just because it's only a blue color and I could do with more colors.
Nice! I just bought a musical note lamp for my music listening room. Thanks!
T-Posing Elephant, the hottest item this holiday season!
great video as always! thanks!
how did you make the star wars generical at the end of this video ? please. (software used ?)
I bought a death star version on ebay and it looks pretty sweet.
Yeah, I bought the Death Star version as well. I love it. Looks exactly like a hologram, actually.
I would like to see the novelty lamp version of my favorite 80's arcade called Tempest...in multicolor of course.
www.hzkidstech.com/sale-12480656-robot-movie-eva-wali-3d-night-lights-colorful-custom-picture-logo-words-sign-led-visual-lights-gifts.html this 3d night light lamp EVA
I see battery input pads in the board. Wonder if it would charge off the USB...
This guy is a proper legend
The bit about the power supply is some sound advice, this day and age. Modern power supplies, while more efficient than the transformers of the olden days, do tend not to be isolated from the grid as well, especially cheap ones.
Hello you happen to know which of these vendors create a custom panel?
I've got one of these that is the Death Star, it's pretty cool :)
I stumbled over those a while looking for USB RGB Lamps on Amazon and eBay, they are pretty much everywhere in the results so thx for the Video. I was thinking about putting one of those inside my PC as a casemod thing, i'm just not sure how to secure it so it doesn't get thrown around when i transport the PC, don't want to ruin the noise dampening foam either. PCMR problems ;P
Hey is this usb plugged or battery operated?
You are venturing into BigClive territory here Matt 8-)
Great video!
Looks like a good bit of fun, especially if you can get it at a good price.
I like this new video style btw with titles intro then titles again.
That USB socket is indeed crap and likely to break. Because it is surface mounted, good ones have metal bits go through the circuit board and bent or soldered on the other side, giving good mechanical strain relief.
I had a cheap Alcatel brand flip phone, the software was excellent (it worked as a USB webcam, a feature I would love to see on today's phones), but the hardware was put together cheaply, and the USB lifted off the board a few months after the warranty expired.
Me-Cheap plastic novelty item that no one in their right mind would ever care to see inside? I can't imagine him opening this up. Literally a second later, "Alright, let's have a look inside." YES!!
I have a pot leaf one!!
My bottom base lights up too. 🤗
Maybe you could review a desktop stirling engine
hi man, could you maybe look into wearable digital night vision? you probably have no use for such devices but it's quite a new development in night vision goggles technology that used to be analog
5:04 Is that a t-pose?
So it is
Well well
LED.customlights Instagram
ask ur mom
Does it have a 3D Homer?
For a bit of cheezy light-up tat, these are quite neat and effective
I'm glad you bought the cheap tat so I didn't have to
Please where to find the machine that is making this decoration
I wonder if this guy is related to youtuber Mingles with Jingles because i watch both their channels and both of them sound the same and talk in the same manner. Both produce informative and entertaining videos
For some reason I didn't expect him to know all the characters on the designs and it made me smile that he could name them, granted the names are on the page though
