The whole premise on which this device is based is pretty dumb. The laser beam doesn't bounce at a shallow angle to the surface, it enters and exits perpendicularly. That means that less than 10% of light is reflected back into the CD each time it bounces, so even the first internal reflection would be too weak to disrupt anything. I doubt the power of that beam of light could even be measured in picowatts after more than a few bounces long before it reached the edge of the disc

I had the cd player D-FS601 model. I loved it for how the skip protection worked flawlessly. I'll have to see if I can find it, if I still have it.

Just taken delivery of an 'open box' Alva Duo, looks mint, all for 143 UK pounds. Can't wait to connect it up tonight.

i'm more than happy with my VPI HW-19 Mk III, my SME 309 tone arm, and Grado Signature cartridge, beautiful, natural and accurate sound. The soundstage, imaging and dynamics are heavenly.

This is the most awesome tuner I've seen. I've only saw 1 in person. It's a marvel, and it was futuristic, even in lates 80s.

I made one with reed relay and a stabilsed power supply. It was my final test to be a technician in electronic back in the 80s.

mine is durable and great...i have this more than a couple of years now...i just replace the stylus when worn...i also use this to fix those records that have loops and skips...my stabilizer is a P0.25 coin...it sounds better than my branded beginner's record player

If nothing else, I've always liked the colour scheme of the S2 line. The white with orange and black is very clean and nice looking.

The price is ridiculous, business practices illegal under several EU laws, the design will date horribly, no mention of back up and warranties and a 3.5 output instead of RCA is highly suspect. I cannot help thinking that the makers are hiding cheap amp chips, which would show up on RCA. Furthermore, paying more to be able to replace a butchered AT low-middle cartridge stylus available only at Miniot has more smell than Dutch cheese. Not a word about tracking alignment -- always the bane of linear trackers, so maybe this one does it by hidden magic OR is the main reason the makers play safe with low end cartridges. As I recall from my BBC days, maintenance on even Sony, Technics and Revox linears required skilled engineers who were not easily found close to regional radio stations which mainly used these. As for musical quality, go manual, direct drive and learn how to obtain best tracking with excellent but not exotic cartridges hewn from a rare wood which only grows in a square mile up a Japanese mountain.

Did you ever look into the better Walkman phones from Sony Ericsson, like the W980i?

I would like to clarfiy that the 'pressure release' tab on both these walkmans and the yellow Sports walkmans (I have 2 different models, perfect condition), are not valves, but in reality mini potentiometers, designed to set tape speed properly. Just thought you'd like to know! ;)

I recently found a copy of the 2003 Sony Store Catalogue called Evolve and it shows a bunch of these plus more like Net MD devices

I can recall going to a shop with my mate who wanted his money back for an amstrad "hi fi" as bits were falling off it.

I had the double tape deck version and the 6650 CD version. Bought in early 90s. Awesome machines. I had the kenwood MOSFET driver stereo amp as well. A beauty. Still in use today. CD player still works after 30 years. Tape deck sold. I also had the nice EQ that matched but sold that ages ago. Kenwood was excellent.

Persona 3 got me interested in the Walkman SW-205F

I had one of the first Sony Discmans when they came out, and it was terrible for skipping. I'm intrigued how that Sport Series 2 CD player would fare, being strapped to your palm and then running, I would have thought that it would suffer a great deal with skipping.😊

That shape looks very organic. I’m not sure that I miss those old boomboxes though.

Looks like people will get a one pound modern plastic piece of junk for more the price of any 80's era high end indestructible turntable. 3.5mm jack output? Integrated volume ? No repacable cartridge? Who would be stupid enough? It's just a sad joke at that price point.

CD technology is used to load software into your computer. Errors would make a mess. If they can cope with the odd anomaly with error correction, surely digital samples of audio signals can be made to produce perfect reproduction.
