- These lamps provide an interesting visual affect but are more of a novelty than a useful light source. This one has a very interesting construction beyond the effect itself.

That x-ray machine seemed very compact and efficient. Hoping to see it used more in the future!
Haha, you got me. At first I was like whoa, he's got an X-ray machine? Nice one🙂
It's Bobby!
Yeah I actually felt the same way for a moment.... :D
The shafts of light that bulb once produced are now EX-rays.
Best X-Ray Machine ever!
That's just a small one. I've got a 9lb X-Ray in the shed.
"When all you've got is a (Stanley) Hammer, everything looks like a nail"
Looks like the Isle of Man health service cuts are starting to affect patient care.
Do you know other brands that sell X-ray hammers? I want to try one myself but Stanley is a bit too expensive.
Glaswegian technique 🤣
I have to go for an x-ray soon. Hope the hell they use something different to Clives x-ray machine :D
I had my head X-rayed when I was a boy. I'm glad that technology had not at that time advanced so far.
😂👌🏻
Dentist visits would be much faster if they used that method.
since you're much bigger than a light bulb, they will of course have to use a much bigger x-ray machine...
LOL
"I may have used the X-ray machine at too higher setting." - pissing myself
Ben D just needs to be recalibrated.. must be overdue for safety tag and testing.
lolol.
me too, lol
just like the lightbulb, the xray machine is using an unreliable powersupply
OMG Clive, you are my hero! That X-ray killed me!!
IgnoreMyChan very nearly killed me too... I burst out laughing and woke my severely deaf wife! He gets me every time
I broke the wood handle on a very old X-Ray machine of mine a while back.
This is sort of a Peppers Ghost kind of thing going on and I think their assembly design is brilliant.
Thanks, Clive, for another nice video.
11:29 ... Damn, that is the most perfect light bulb drawing I have ever seen in my life. Don't think I could do that if I had 20 tries (or more).
I have had several X-ray machines for years but never realized what they were till I saw this video, thank you so much Clive I cant wait to start X-raying!
It's so weird to see a video nowadays, that doesn't have an outro or a 'like, share and subscribe' at the end
Amazing. I read your comment two years later with only nine likes. That is severely underrated and unappreciative of Clive and his lack of begging. I only understand a minute amount of the technical aspects of these videos, but I enjoy his curiosity and speaking to the audience in ordinary discussion voice.
Died when he brought the X-ray machine. To someone who scrolls through the comments without seeing the video this comments about the X-ray machine probably intrigues them hahaha
Martin Alvarado RIP ⚰️
I haven’t gotten to this part in the video yet, and the comments have me so curious.
That was the most satisfying glass shattering I have ever heard.
I had a chest X-Ray about a year and a half ago. My doc told me that with the digital imaging plates he can run the exposure at a higher setting than with film. He used a different X-Ray machine than Clive, though. ;)
I should hope so. Being X-Rayed with a hammer wouldn't be much fun.
Yes; however, one wouldn't have to wear a dosimeter as the operator!
It's fun until a trip through the airport or to the dentist...and yes that includes the hammer. ;)
Much love, Clive!
"he can run the exposure at a *higher* setting than with film"... Digital imaging plates need less exposure to x-rays than film.
And dropping them costs about the same as a good new car... I think mikeselectricstuff has a teardown video of these imaging plates. ;)
zvpunry, that's what he said after I asked about being able to run at *lower* exposure. I think it's because the digital plates might have higher dynamic range than the film, so they don't overexpose the same way. He was imaging my lungs for fluid buildup. Turns out I was developing pneumonia, bleh.
And yeah, I've watched mikeselectricstuff's video. Fascinating stuff! :D
So let's examine these digital imaging plates with Big Clive's X-Ray machine then, shall we?
What's interesting is that my roommate has a firework LED lamp very similar to this one and both of us can see the trails clearly with the naked eye. So, there are definitely ones that look better
Big C. I have enjoyed your videos for years but today Sir, I bow to you and deem you 'Legend' as your x ray device truely puts everything into proper perspective.
The moment you said X-Ray I thought, bloody hell where's he had that from?... Then came the "X-Ray" ROFL 🤣😂🤣😂 #Dead
RavenY2K3 maybe I can 'zap' you with an X-ray to bring you back from the dead ;-)
Hope a teardown and schematic of that x-ray machine comes soon.
Your X-ray device is awesome. Thanks for exposing the power supply. I had a couple of these LED lamps fail on me within ½ year. They were the normal white ones out of the same box. (The inrush current may have destroyed the LED's in my case ) Great video.
Loving the new X-Ray device. It really gives you a clear view of the internal construction! Thanks Clive.
I believe this whole channel is just the product of Clive going on drunk eBay shopping sprees and this is how he makes his money back.
When he had the doll that shat fireworks out her ass convinced me.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.
My mom LOVED that doll video!
And she is 67 years old :)
+D Sloop thanks, now I heard 8:55 There is the bridge rectum fire.
A rectum fire? Burnt his ass up it did.
Be careful. Direct exposure to X-Rays can be almost as deadly as leaded solder.
Having a skull x-ray courtesy of Big Clive might well be a life-changing incident . . . . . :-D
Sure is! Just cast it in a bullet mold and then fire it out of a gun. Not to say that RoHS compliant lead free is any less deadly, and might actually be harsher on the barrel...
Of course it is. Ask RoHS! It has the Deadly Lead stuff in it.
Was listening to this in the background while working and occasionally watching the video when something caught my ear... I heard Clive mention his X-ray machine and thought that Clive had some new tech in, before I could look there was a loud glass smashing sound. Made me chuckle.
That x-ray made me actually laugh out loud. Informative I expect after watching a lot of Clive's videos but that was perfect.
I see you source your medical equipment from the developers of Surgeon Simulator.
Why is this comment not as popular as it should be.
I saw these a few years ago and wondered what they'd be like up close so thanks for making
Saw Clives X-Ray machine at my Dentist's Office when I went in for an exam. I now have a new Dentist...
ande no teeth hahaha
Plot twist: it was there for hanging a new painting to the wall.
plot twist: you think you have a new dentist... in fact you're still in the chair with a concussion
The Glasgow school of radiology...:)

Although I have next to no knowledge of electronics I find your videos fascination, and seeing what’s inside things and how they work.
If I ever need glass breaking sound effects, I am so coming to this channel! :P
LOVE your honesty, and humour. Keep it up.
Love the X-ray machine. **as I clean the soda off my monitor**
Fran's video suggested yours! 👍
Long live the two giant CZcams electronic nerds! 🏆
Lol man you got me with that X-Ray bit. It's 4am and I just accidentally laughed really loud xD
Scratching that curiosity itch with another great vid. Thanks Clive!
Looks like PVD sputter deposition of metal (probably aluminum) on the glass. The little windows are probably an oil or soap solution that's splattered on the glass to create the round ports for the light to shine through. After the metal vapor is applied, the bulb is rinsed out to remove the soap splats. Cool idea! Cool video! Rock on, Clive!
I just recently bought 2 of these and was trying to figure out how to send you some to look at.
Loved the X-ray machine. Had me laughing out loud.
this is my favorite channel.... years later it's still great.
Superb X-Ray footage, really glad to see the quality of these keeps improving year after year. Crack on.
Nice x-ray machine you have there Clive. I have a different model, a 2.5lb / 1kg version. Comes in very handy 😜
Using Clive's logic, my sledge hammer might be classed as a "radiotherapy" device! :-D
That globe reminds me of those infinity mirrors that were all the craze in the late 70’s and early 80’s. Also it has a steampunk retro look without the mirrors effects too.
Excellent demo to show whats inside and Thanks
Oh Clive, I love you! X-RAY
The free-hand drawing of the bulb at around 11:30 was pretty impressive. And I now need to go find a label for my 'x-ray' so it doesn't get confused with my hammer.
Oh man, now I feel like a fool, I have been calling my x-ray machine something else all these years. It's good Clive is around to teach us proper terminology... Love it!
And there i was thinking fluke have created a x ray version of the thermal imaging thingy. That infinity spotty stuff might make an interesting window tint film. Im hoping that the 12/60v 20A dc pwm motor controllers are alluring enough to make it into clives basket,
I remember the infinity mirrors well. We built a huge one with about 40 lamps in it for a night club i used to work in. This was back when led lamps did not exist.
A huge thank you to you and your X-ray machine! I was literally about to spend 10-15 bucks on a cheap LED bulb lined with hole-y mirror paint. 🙄
The X-Ray could actually be used to diagnose broken bones. Just apply it and they are definitely broken.
That's it I'm never getting an Xray, the guy might just have it on 2 high of a setting.
OMG Clive! My brain didn't even realize the X-Ray joke until i heard glass shattering (I was on a different tab, just listening to your video in the background). I went back and saw the "X-RAY" sticky label first, then the machine it was attached to. CZcams should really allow us viewers to dual-wield the mighty Thumbs-Up! 😁
X-Ray has to be the best tool in the box. Gave the lads a laugh. Thanks Clive :)
A Big Thanks for solving the Mystery.
Thanks for sharing 😀👍
Interesting x-ray machine 👍
I lost it with the X-Ray machine! 💀☠🤣 Thanks Clive. The X-Ray machine is a Smash Hit!
I once had my head x-rayed when I moved a 12 foot step ladder and forgot the x-ray machine on the top step. It took four stitches.
Kae Eberhardt, That's an amazing sound that you'll not soon forget, isn't it? The muffled ring.
the exact reason why you should turn off your xray machine when you're done with it
I love your videos! CZcams wouldn't be the same without you.
That lightbulb and Marvin Gaye's "Let's get it on" on the stereo, and your wife is like wax in your arms...
i can think of a few other uses for this x ray machine well done clive keep it coming
Thank you so much for satisfying my curiosity so well۔ loved the X-ray! Best 'How It Works And Does What It Does' video on CZcams! Period.
didn't expect Clive to have an x-ray machine. i love the new technology
Completely solid-state too!
Looking forward to his next new MRI machine...
Your x-ray machine has an outstanding resolution, Very good!
Loved the x ray machine. I actually thought you had another fancy camera like your infra red one! It did make me chuckle!
Lovin' the x-ray machine Clive !!!
That x-ray machine made me way happier then it should have. 10/10 would watch again
That's precisely what I come to your channel for!
If that's his X-Ray machine I'd love to see what his scanning electron microscope looks like. LOL
+Doug Reed --> SEMs are operated under high vacuum. Why would you need O2 or C2H2?
+Doug Reed --> Hmm...In that case I agree with you. LOL Sorry, I'm a pharmaceutical lab chemist...sometimes it's hard to leave work behind. :)
probably a wood chipper
Best not to tempt him - you can occasionally pick up "old but functional" benchtop SEMs via EBay - there was an old but OK (as in, working) JEOL going for a few hundred dollars not so long back - the scary thing was, it was the same machine I used as an undergraduate in the early 1970's.
A sledge hammer or a jack hammer. 😲
Luv the x-ray machine.
Moment savoured, didn't realise I had so many x-ray machines and a geiger counter, the geiger counter is real, x-ray thingies are just hammers! cheers Big Dude TFS, GB :)
It's basically an infinity box layout using half mirrored surfaces on each side of the bulb's glass, with the clear pattern on the outside slightly offset to an inner pattern.
i have 3 of well regular ones of those kinda. have 4 strips of led. but full glass with the chip in the base. i kinda like these cause remind me of the simple filament bulbs in general. i find ones use plastic bases or some times ones i have with full molded finned metal base ones look some times odd in some fixtures and not to mention get hot as hell at that base area.
If you put it close to the wall it gives a super cute effect!
Best "unpacking" I ever seen!
I've used that xray device type myself. Very effective.
I think in order to get that spotted-with-blank-spots effect they coarsely spray on (or perhaps hand paint?) the inside with something that they can clean off after the mirror coating has been applied.
You are brilliant. Thanks for the x-ray machine.
OMG your videos normally dont include comic, but that X-ray got me to giggles a bit. That is some funny stuff right there.
10:18 Another reason for that 470K resistor is if you are using the bulb on a neon or LED illuminated wall switch.
The small amount of current the neon or LED passes through the lamp with the switch off could cause the lamp to glow dimly if the resistor wasn't there.
Just yesterday I saw a gif of a lamp like this, wondered how did it work and what was the name... Didn't search, just sent it as a WhatsApp status...
Today I saw this video in my recommendations from CZcams.
Hahahaha loved the X Ray machine! I have seen it working before xD
Cleaver Clive...x-ray machine.
I spit my beer out all over the table laughing so hard!!
You can mirror any glass surface you like, even cookware, I think it's by adding a substance to silver nitrate that causes the silver ions to fall out of solution and adhere to the surfaces, the yellow colour on the inside would be silver oxide tarnish where ie the has been exposed to air, I imagine they spray some soap inside the bulb before mirroring, there are tutorials on CZcams, but how you'd make it its own infinity mirror I am unsure, you may also have to silver the outside too, which would explain the dimness
"silver is a poor material for making mirrors". Spoken with such conviction!
However, Silver is the best material for mirrors, but expensive. Hence the use of Aluminum.
No self respecting telescope uses anything but silver.
The old method of mirror-silvering was to use a mercury-silver amalgam and heat it to drive off the mercury.
Not terribly safe....
All coatings need some sort of protection, otherwise it's prone to damage. It goes without saying, and doesn't make me a liar. It is assumed that the reader knows, and is not an idiot.
Now I remember you. You are the argumentative dude I've came a cross before.
Silver is the most reflective of all elements. That's why it's used in high-end telescopes.
Now go write a speech for some one else. I am not going to argue with a troll like you.
UFOhunter can't argue with stupid! I wouldn't respond to someone being antagonising
The surface of the mirrored class and those specks reminds me of tarnished silver... And if I recall, silver is or was what was deposited onto the back of glass to make mirrors (I think?...) So it might be a thin layer of silver or a silver compound/deposition onto the inside of the bulb.
0:56 Proctologist: "Oh! I've seen a fair few of these!"
This is the 4th time I have watched this video today. There are so many great and informative CZcams channels .I am an electronic technician by trade and I love all of your videos.I have found myself watching more CZcams than that boring TV so much that my internet usage is about 4TB a month, yes 4TB.Thank god Comcast does not data cap here in NH. USA.Please keep up your great work, Clive. PS I hope you are wearing a lead vest when using the X Ray machine.
TV Tech why do you watch the same video a couple of times?🤔🤔
Because I had to show my friends that crazy X Ray machine.Everybody laughed at it,otherwise once is good.
The xray machine made me laugh so hard I replayed it at least 10 times
You are so awesome! I nearly died of laughter at your x-ray! That was so great. I've got one of those too!! Best part of the video. Are you a teacher? I hope so. I wish I could have had a teacher like you, who had such a lovely accent, and was wonderful to listen to, and learn from. You really are awesome! Thank you!
robber576
Dichroic mirrors are awesome, they are usually applied through vacuum metal deposition.
GU10 has a dichroic mirror, it lets ir heat out the back while reflecting visible light.
I saw this on amazon and was like. Damn I wonder if clive did a video on this, he would love it. Glad to see you did. Althought im 5 years late
I'm a radiologic technician, I use the CT scanner and the X ray machine to image my electronics sometimes for fun when I'm not working
I have asked airport security if I could see the image of some items in the past.
Was waiting for that for a long!
I had a X-Ray Device in my tool-box this entire time and had no idea!
X-ray = hammer , best channel ever Clive!
I call that a hard reset tool :D
cool videos clive. subscribed
I'd love to see more 'vlog', IDK why but I'm fascinated by relatively small islands.
That x-ray lmao, very good
I see now that Mike is no longer the only one with an X-Ray machine. Though Mike's machine makes much less of a mess so you may want to look into a firmware patch.
So how would it look if treated as flat plate, traditional infinity mirror I wonder?
If you ever get the chance, it would be interesting to see the circuit used in 12V filament led bulbs.
Awesome X-Ray machine!
The old Edinburgh socket set, a multipurpose tool for sure!
Great X-Ray!
