The whole concept of the brother who is a goal keeper is being a look alike to Bruce Lee, even putting the shades on was a Bruce Lee look for his funeral. In the old days China when students learn from the same master they call each other brothers or sisters

I disagree about the scene where Mui bares her heart to Sing. He just simply never thought about her romantically up to that point. He regarded her as a friend, and respected her mastery of Kung Fu. The dialogue was a little simple for the emotions being portrayed, but he was just being honest with her, which I thought was good on him. He was never stringing her along, but she took his caring of her for something that it wasn't.

About Stephen's chow's shared name "Sing/Singh" in most of his films, it's from his original Chinese name 周星驰(Zhou Xing Chi), or Chow Sing Chi in Cantonese, so almost all of his characters' names are a variation of 星(Sing) or 星星(Sing Sing).

(PS: In case you were wondering why the protagonist turned down the girl's love even though he seemed to like her at first, Shaolin is a place for monks that are supposed to never marry or never even have any contact with females. In the movie he was showing kindness and friendliness to her, but it was never love because this is the way for monks. He wasn't turning her down because he got famous. He just didn't understand love or romance)
(PS2: The Chinese name of Stephan Chow is Chow SING Chi, hence the consistent use of that name. He's literally Sing in every single movie)
Kung Fu Hustle and this Shaolin Soccer movie are the 2 movies from Stephan Chow that got the most fame from the western cultures. That said, some of the lesser known OLD movies from him were actually WAYYYY funnier. He started out by making movies with an average plot and fill it up with many short but explosive skits, but over time, he grew more mature and wanted more cinematography and more developed skits and hence the birth of Kung Fu Hustle, Shaolin Soccer and a few other "new-school" Chow moveis.

Great observe about the Sing part .It was because Stephen Chow's real name is Chow "Sing" Chi.In Hong Kong we used to call him as Kid Sing and in cantonese Sing means star. That's why in most of his film his character is always also named Sing.It gets unseperable to him.

The reason why Stephen Chow plays characters called Sing is because his real name is Zhou Xing Chi in Mandarin Chinese (Xing is analogous to Sing). Shaolin Soccer introduced me to Stephen Chow's work and of course I thought Kung Fu Hustle was amazing...but probably the most interesting of his produced works is "Journey to the West: Conquering The Demons". Although Chow doesn't star in it himself, the cartoonish goofiness mixed with an underlying emotional core peculiar to his movies is readily apparent. I think it's worth giving it a look if your interested in exploring his work beyond the gimmick of applying martial arts to unusual contexts that garnered his work attention in the Western market.

The English translation at 25:20 did a bit of injustice to what Sing said and made him sound so cruel. He actually said "No. If the shoes get worn off, I will throw them away. We must always look forward to a better future. I don't want to ever wear worn-off shoes again." In the original language, he didn't say "Things have changed. I have to think about the future." Steven Chow does play characters named "Sing" a lot. In some of his older films, he even appears alongside some of his other characters or characters from his other films. This would indicate that many of his films take place in the same universe. It's a bit similar to how Jackie Chan often plays characters named "Jackie" in his older films. You might want to look up "All for the Winner", if you'd like to see an older film, where he plays a character named Sing.

Recommend Mary to open a channel for Stephen Chow,Almost none of Stephen Chow's films are bad, they are all excellent. Kung Fu Hustle and Shaolin soccer are not his funniest movies either (compared to other works, they are not even considered comedy movies). Suggest watching more games, such as 《鹿鼎记》,《逃学威龙》, 《大话西游》, 《国产007》, 《喜剧之王》, etc. He is an actor who is almost obsessed with acting and also a director with a passion for movies. He is almost the greatest comedian in modern China (there is also one named Chen Peisi)

You may not be a big fan of football, but the next FIFA Women’s World Cup which is coming in a few months will be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand. It’s the first Women’s World Cup hosted by two countries and the first major World Cup happening down under.

I loved Kung Fu Hustle. But this movie though.. I have said this before in the internet circle, I'll say it again - Shaolin Soccer is one of the best movies ever made!!!

Please react to Stephen Chow's "From Beijing with love", it's a 007 comedy.

I highly recommend Stephen Chow's movie, CJ7 😀 It might become your favorite. It's goofy as usual, it's heartwarming, and a bit sad tbh.
