Ya I saw this the FIRST time on a tiny b/w TV and it was scary as shit, so I could only imagine the cinema experience. My parents saw this in the cinema and my mom had nightmares for weeks afterwards. As kids we would play Alien on the playground. One would be the Alien to melt through any walls on the jungle gym while the rest tried to escape.

Imagine ALL effects were practical aka designed from the Alien to the smaller aliens. Its great and stands up pretty well to today as well. Obviously, modern CGI they could do this better, but it was the first horror in space I think.
