What are the little touches you do to your new bike?
GMBN Tech Immediately put on a really good frame protector
GMBN Tech ride it and adjust things as needed!
get rid of continental tyres. i got burned with them on my last bike and there's no way id ever use them again
Ride it.
GMBN Tech Change the grips.

"super nice" ...obviously!?
6-8 nm o the brake levers sounds like a great way to crush your bars.
I'm a fan of running them tight enough so they never move under riding, but just loose enough that the brake spins on the bar under heavy impacts instead of snapping or bending a lever
The Park Tool pizza cutter, obviously the most important tool you can have inside your shop!
Who else here finds this video therapeutic? I just love bike tinkering videos. đ
I broke my femur, this video didn't help.

This video could not have come at a better time! My new Canyon Exceed just arrived today

another good indepth video..Thanks Doddy
Stick with 29 Doddy! I couldn't imagine going back to smaller wheels

Thanks Doddy! Didn't know about the point you made about the positive chamber pressure on the rear shock - will make sure I cycle the shock and pump up again next time I need to pump up from empty!
Love the tips you are giving here, specially for the chain-link. (4:45)
Also the tips at 8:38, 15:12, 15:31 and 17:00
Thanks Doddy again.
Greetings from the Galilee.
Incredibly useful video Doddy, made setting my shock pressure very easy! Keep up the great work đ
Nice new bike Doddy, very stealth. I used to like putting a shinny 20 euro cent coin in the outside end of each grip/handlebar when I changed my grips to ones with tightening bolts on both ends. The plastic bar end things always come out or worse get pushed into the handlebars, never to come out again!
OMG These kinda videos are *SO* satisfying!! Keep up the unbelievably amazing work!! đđ»đđ»
Thanks Tomi Saaranen!
No problem, you deserve it!
Thanks Doddy such a great video and very informative keep up the great work
Thank's Doddy for your videos. They've been super helpful for me so far. I've only just started mountain biking at my mid fourties.
It's great to see you got into mountain biking. It's never too late to get involved with this sport. Glad you're enjoying the content! Safe Riding!
thanks doddy great vid
That bike is an awesome colour.
Lovely looking bike
Thatâs a good looking stealth whip!!
Doddy, your new Mega looks absolutely stunning. Thank you for the video, I'm receiving my Canyon on monday.

Thank you! This really helps!
Good job!
Awesome vid ! Thanks !

Super nice Bike
Thats great video :) thanks for the tis Doddy
Damn, you got yourself an RC model, looks nice!
Nice bike
nice bike
That bike looks sow damn good...
Great video
It's worth to take both fork and shock for a first service before riding - bikes are stored for months and manufacturers sometimes do a poor job greasing internals. One day extra for the peace of mind ;)
Interesting point
thanks great upload
I use a drill and then i adjust the torque limiter to what i need, its not in NM but i have calibrated that one number is a special value
Great vid as usual.
What happened to the Santa Cruz build?
I'm curious to hear your thoughts on the e.13 9-46 cassette if you go that route.
Evans Cycles didn't help me with anything apart from sizing when I bought my first dh bike, said to me that I need an XL Norco Aurum, tried it out and it felt okay and that was it
IMO best thing for frame pins etc that require specific Torques especially if they are against bearings is to release them and Re-Torque to the bike specifications, Don't just go around giving bolts extra Torque. Certain bikes sometimes require thread lock on specific bolts.. just whizzing around extra tightening stuff willy-nilly can break the lock... remember they are just set plastic glues really. I always put crank boots on personally. An old inner tube is good to remove the Air Can if you've not got a strap wrench, I've never ever needed to resort to a strap wrench.. Really great video with loads of useful tips.
@GMBN Tech Thanks for a good and informative video! Watching you putting thread lock on when attaching the rear derailleur made me wonder though, if maybe every bolt you during inspection actually get to move should get new thread lock?
Nice vid i wait to my new yt capra. It will be very good to adjust and assemble it.
Awesome, send a pic when your take it out for its first ride!
So I was very lucky as my forks feel great as they came. I'm wondering how often they need to be checked. Or do they hold air pretty well?
Obviously things are packaged differently in UK than Canada or US. I work in a shop and if we get a high end mtb, like 9.8 Trek Slash, its a frame up build, including internal cable routing. The only thing installed is cranks. On a road bike, for example Trek Speed Concept, the frame is completely bare otherthan BB.
I have found this to be true.
It must be a U.K health a safety thing. (British Standards?)
The "complete" bikes I have recieved in the U.K are almost completely built. By comparison bikes in the U.S and eastern Europe not only come in more parts, but as a result you get all the associated instruction booklets/sticker packs and branded "bumpf".
Bike from the U.K resellers tend to have a box inside with the actual retailers "bumpf"
2020 opinons please
when torquing bars down, check if the handlebars have torque measurements, my stem says 8nm but bars say 6, so tighten to the handlebars setting, otherwise 5 - 6NM is a good reference
and just cover the entire bike in helitape no more scratches
As always Doddy, a bloomin' brilliant video sir! What is the name of the particular protractor app that you use here?
Measuring sag standing made a big change in my fork. I wondered about that as bikes become more slacker. Ran 3 tokens b4 now run none. 6 2 225 lbs
Good video, just rejected my 2nd mtb due to damage on the paint work. Pity it was not protected like yours.
Carefully check your handlebar furniture is concentric when tightened. I had a specialized dropper post ruin my carbon race face bar as when tightened it was not circular but an oval with a step in it, which nipped the carbon, and I had to scrap the bar
After watching this video, it give me the courage to handle my bike maintenance.
as always: very helpful video! :-) Funny that you mentioned to install the brake lever in a way, so it can move in case of a crash. Two months ago i upgraded my brakes and didn't use a torque wrench. And yesterday I crashed with my bike. Luckily the brake lever did move and didn't break. So I guess, I got it just right. :-)
Nice!
When would you use volume spacers instead of those little red bands or what's the difference for the rear shock
You really like nukeproof megas at GMBN :D (Blake: 2 Doddy: 2 Niel: 1 )
1:26 nice socks doddy :D
I already have a Santa Cruz Chameleon 2016 and I'm thinking on buying a Santa Cruz 5010 frame (2018). The idea is switching Chameleon's components to the new frame (Most of these components are compatible with the 5010 frame, as long as I know, except for the rear hub and the seat post). Do you have any recommendations? (Perhaps sizes or uncotpatible standards IÂŽm not considering)
nice vid! =)
got love!! xD ty)))
Do a review of the Yeti SB100
Is that scotch mastic tape similar to butyl tape as used in the motor industry and pond liner joining tape? I have plenty of it if it is.
Tip, nail clippers are the best tools for clipping cable ties!
Disagree.. not strong enough for bulky cable and you risk them twisting and slipping.
Doddy good
Doddy speaks wise words
Doddy uses good quality side cutters
Hi all the bottomless tokens you put In you rear shock can they be used in a Rockshox monarch rt3 with a debonair can ?
7:55 when i had my internship at my local bike shop they told me to check the bike if everithing was working and when i went to straighten the mech hanger the screw was very hard to get loose. I didnt think of it much until i wanted to put it back on the screw wasnt going anywhere and i broke the alankey with little force applied and then i told the worker that it wasnt working and he realised that the xt shadow+ had cracked at the mountig hole
:(
Can you make a review/test of the new Canyon Spectral? I am thinking to buy one of the alloy models. Is it a good choice?
`I would watch out with canyon, their customer service is shocking and the delivery time is the most unreliable thing in the world
Tom Graham Thanks for your answer! I live near Koblenz (Canyon Home) so I could take it there and wouldn't pay shipping and it would be faster. Do you know anything else about it?
Florian Fuhrmann no sorry, I'm still waiting for a canyon torque that was ordered 6 months ago.
I ordered my Canyon Spectral last summer and it came days earlier than it should have!
with every bike i get i always always cover the whole bike in clear tape and cover on chain stay and seat stay with tube!
Just my curiosity but, where's dĂłes Doddy stand at the first part of the video ? I saw both panel of GMBN and GTN.
Secret location đ€«
GMBN Tech his new bike cave?
buys a bike for 7000 bucks, makes sure to be able to reuse cable ties :D
Over time doing things like that will add up to a 7g bike! ;-D
yeah if you do it for like 150 years :D
recycling is not saving money its saving resources. if you don't have a zip tie when you need it, it becomes priceless
its also nice not having to throw plastic away every time, isn't it?
#passonplastic
Its not about being skint its about being responsible
Can you link to purchase for the rubber spiral wraps? Very helpful vid as I built up my first full bike last week. Thanks.
Is it the 3M Rubber Mastic Tape you're looking for?
GMBN Tech no, I think Doddy said it is made by Fibrex. They wrap around the cables to protect the frame.
Joey Welsh - it's made by Fibrax called spiral frame protectors. Try fibrax.org
Thank you.
#ASKGMBNTECH. Hi Doddy, love your work. Not sure if this is a tech question or best for GCN, but I'll ask anyway. Are their rules around bike helmets and road riding. I have a motor bike and to ride on the road my helmet needs to meet certain standards. Ie. Def no plastic clip style buckles, harder abrasion testing. Do road bicycle helmets have to meet these or is this another anomaly with cycling on the roads? Will that void insurance claims...ie - how can a cyclist claim any head injury in an accident if they are not wearing the road certified equipment as would a motor bike rider....
gostei desses pneus, que modelo sĂŁo?
Daisy duke's Doddy really đđđ
Is the Fibrex cable protection only available in the UK and not the US?
seeing the chain and cassette, have you already ridden the bike before the video or is that some kind of colored chain lube? if it is, which lube is it?
It's just the standard chain colour.... What are you seeing that looks coloured?
GMBN Tech on 8:11 you see your cassette with a bit of a brown colour on it, also in between the chain links there's a bit of brown....... It will probably be rust but I thought I ask.
I just got my new bike out of the box a couple of days ago and the brake bleed is way off. I can already pull the levers to the handlebars :( This sucks the most because getting the bleed kit and toying around with stuff that should be good from the get go is really disappointing.
I'm looking to run a 11 speed sram gx mech on a sunrace 11-46 cassette, have you heard or had any experience that can assure me it will work? Also while shopping I spotted a mech hanger extender by wolf but they say sram mechs are not supported, can you shine any light on as to why? Thanks! @gmbn
#Askgmbntech My new bike has a 40mm stem. I had a pretty good off that bent the bars, but also twisted the stem. I have never seen a twisted stem. Have you heard of this before on such a short stem and do you think a twisted stem is a fair warranty claim or just tough luck and I need to suck up the cost of a new stem?
My new bike will arrive in a few days :D
Kuba Gajda what did you get?
2017 Kona BigHozno DL - I've had an opportunity to get last XL in a very fair price so I went for it :D Super stoked!
How you liking the bike?
Iâm surprised to see you set your tires non aligned to the rim decals. I have done resetting of my tires on a couple of occasions due to non aligned tires/rim decals. I know it has no bearing on function - is it just me being too fussy.
Well, each to their own. Doddy doesn't seem to mind.
Doddy is a freak!
You are correct to spend an extra 75hrs making your valve line up exactly with the middle of the tyre decal!
Me pregunto cuåndo alguien que sepa , va a traducir estos videos de este buen canal al español
Man that pimple is just yelling pop me haha
How did you manage to find a bike to buy?
Do you apply chain lube to a new bike?
Could we have a bike size Gide please I at least would find it helpful thank you
Iâve got them bars n stem lol
What is that rubber cable spiral called?
Doddy, what was the name of the company that manufactures those little rubber spirals?
jdelbailey Fibrax
Steven S thank you!
You said Iâm gonna add about ten pounds to compensate for rider gear but trust me unless you are riding a whole day epic with like a 16lbs pack it isnât gonna make a difference. Iâd say you have a 8lbs ish pack which with 2lt of water which is 4.4 lbs and your other tools and snacks is probably an average weight for a pack it isnât going to make a noticeable difference in conjunction with the whole rider weight and bike because say if you weigh bout 160 lbs with that 30lbs bike that 190lbs so 8lbs is such a small percent of the total weight it doesnât warrant a change in pressure. Love the vids keep it up and to be honest gmbn tech is way better cos I kinda like to go full nerd-gasam on tech đ
mental mtb he meant add 10psi to shock to take account of hus gear/pack...better to set up.with it on though...10psi wouldn't onclude extra for water
And pack, helmet, water all does make a huge difference to sag.and travel progression...always set sag in ur riding gear with usual water
Rupert Wenn yeah I know he meant 10psi
@@mentalmtb3104 no, no you didnt.
is that a reverb?
Where can I buy that seat
Can we have a gmbn office tour
Any tips on build-your-own because no-one builds what I want?
Hmm, tough one. With so many bikes out there, what do you want that no one builds?! And are you talking about frame of component build?
I haven't written a formal spec., but maybe I should - or maybe a use case. Hmm, I'll have to get back to you.
Great video, but omg, that watch is hideous.
OMG that socks
"Nukeproof want me to try their 27.5 wheeled bike." Read: "Nukeproof has a backlog of unsold 27.5 wheeled bikes."
Never ever tighten your lever clamps to 8 Nm. Especially on carbon bars. Usually 3-5 is plenty or generaly just enough so it doesn't slip in general use.
Throw some carbon paste under the band, 5nm it will never budge.
If you don't need those high rollers I would gladly recycle them on to my bike if your up for that I'd gladly pay the postage ;)
Wait so if I buy a brand new bike from halfords it'll come with all the wiring inside the bike already? The cables for the brakes and all that.
From halfords... yep. All the cables will prob be inside the frame!
Not actually connected to anything. Just whacked inside the tube for somewhere for them to live.
The saddle will be attached to the front axle and your left leg wil have to circumnavigate the globe just to find the shifters... which need to be operated using your toes and bizzarrely are the only means of propulsion.

How many blaxk shorst does doddy has? :v
What's the name of the level tool app?
Angle pro
Is there a specific reason doddy doesnt use fox?
Maybe because RS is easier to maintain by yourself. You need less special tools and access to different service kits is waaaaay more easier since you can just buy them normally from an online shop. Afaik to buy fox service kits you always have to buy a complete kit and you need like a special maintenance license to buy it (but that info might be wrong).
