I was going to try to make one of the jar sealers myself after watching your older videos, but after pricing out the parts and also thinking that you guys are the experts on this sort of thing, I decided to go with your version instead and ordered one off of your Etsy store. It's such a great bargain for what you get! Well, I just got it and I am SO HAPPY that I did! This is such a high quality item, it is so well built that I have no doubt it could be passed down for generations! It fits 32 oz large mouth jars and smaller jars of course too. I don't want to run my canner for just a few jars but I throw jars of future canned food into the freezer and when I have enough to fill the canner then I pull everything out of the freezer and thaw them properly. Then cold can to be efficient with my utilities and time. 4Patriots have solar powered flashlights. We haven't used ours yet but I don't want to rely on batteries.

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  Před 3 lety +3

      I am the same way about canning. To me it is a waste of fuel and time to not have a full canner so I do freeze or refrigerate depending on what it is and how soon I know I will have enough to can.
      As far as batteries, we use ALL means of power back ups. We have many types of fuel, solar power, gas and diesel generators, batteries (that can be charged on our solar power) and so on. And of course there is our wood stove that can cover many things power wise for us in the cooler months. I think it is a mistake for anyone to depend on just one source for fuel/power

    I just received several powdered items from Hoosier Hill Farms. I purchased enough to stock up but noticed the use by dates are not very far out, a couple weren't even one year. Can I extend that use by date by storing the product in mylar bags with O2 absorbers?

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  Před 3 lety +1

      In my personal opinion, those dates mean nothing. They are only so the company can protect themselves and are required by law. In most cases dried food products will last years beyond the use by or expiration date.
      I never use oxygen absorbers when I repackage anything into jars because I find them pointless and a waste of money since when vacuum sealing, you are removing most to all of the air and are getting a tight seal. Here are two videos where I show the two main methods I use for vacuum sealing:

    Awesome video! As all of your videos are. Jam packed with great, useful, helpful, & interesting information, so many terrific ideas! I need to watch again and take notes. Thank you, Heidi! Are you using anything new for all that energy you have or only the jet fueled latte? (Which I finally have all the ingredients for, and made some today - without the adhwaghanda & spices - I have, but am adding things slowly. : ) I share and promote your videos every opportunity I get. Hugs to you!!!!!!

    Heidi, do you ever have problems with the oil in your hair serum going rancid? Yours last for years. Is there a tip or trick I need to know? Thank you.

      Since I use avocado oil, no, I have not. While olive oil is a healthy option for hair and scalp, I never use it anymore for infusing because it can go rancid. I learned that from experience

    I just question the actual ingredients in their listed non fat milk. ????

      I never buy non fat powdered milk from any brand. Whole milk not only tastes better but is just better for you. So I have no idea what their ingredients in that is but the whole milk powder has only one ingredient: Whole Milk

      The cream cheese powder has non fat milk

      @@joycewedel9084 It has added nonfat milk, it is also cream cheese powder. I would assume their nonfat milk is exactly that, nonfat milk just like their whole milk powder is whole milk powder
