I've got dozens of eggs in my Excalibur as I watch this, LOL! I also froze some in cupcake papers and labeled RAW eggs on the freezer bag. The eggs in the dehydrator have been in overnight. I got up this morning and flipped the thicker places. Yesterday was a huge haul of butternut squash and pumpkins, the Delicata was ready a couple weeks ago. I love putting away food, but as we get into the 40-degree, cloudy, spitting rain fall weather, I'm working to be finished with garden work and move on to winter activities such as quilting and listtening to audio books in my nice warm house! You know, Heidi, I'm so happy to be home, surrounded by mostly animals all day, and not deal with people. I'm sorry that people complain, cuss, etc., at you, when you are brave to put yourself out there and offer us such useful information. You keep me from 'reinventing the wheel', when I'm putting food up. THANK YOU!

You are absolutely right about the break bleeder vacuum system. I have a food saver, but went ahead last year and purchased a break bleeder as well, after watching one of your videos. I honestly prefer the break bleeder. Far easier to grab and do instead of dragging it the food saver machine. I cannot believe ppl were offended and were actually rude to you. Glad you shook it off and took the higher road, Heidi. That shows what an awesome person you are. ❤

I agree with you on the food saver. Not worth the money and for those looking for a sealer to do volume, please don't buy the cheaper brands. They do not hold up if you do volume. They wear out quick. We bought a professional model for restaurants etc and it does the job. But even so all vacuum sealers have their quirks. Keep up the videos I really enjoy and learn a lot. I have been dehydrating for many yrs . I am very selective on what I can because of storage issues . Dehydrating foods allows for a greater amt of food storage in a smaller space . I have a friend that thought she just had to have a freeze dry dehydrator & she has since sold it & gone back to the reg dehydrators . That freeze dryer uses ALOT more energy than the regular dehydrators . I would not give mine up for anything . I hope you enjoy the 1 you get as much as I do mine .

Heidi, just thought I'd add that it has also been suggested to keep an eye on your bottles of dehydrated goods in their bottles for 3+ days for any moisture that might appear. That being said, it is also suggested that once you've powdered your items, that you spread them out on parchment paper on a cookie sheet, preheat your oven on its lowest setting (usually 170), then turn it off and place the cookie sheet in the oven with only the light on for 30 minutes or longer if needed. It can also be done without preheating the oven by just placing it in the oven with the light on only with the door propped open slightly and leaving it all night. These methods will help ensure your powder is good and dry. Love your videos, I have learned so much from you and I am very grateful.

Who are these crazy people? Like any other small appliance some work well for some people and the same models don't work well for others. And you are correct when products first come out those first models will work for years.
I grew up on a large farm and we milked 150 cows by hand. Wo we kept at least 5 gallons of milk daily for our personal use. We had one cow that gave 5 gallons and 3 gallons was rich cream so we made our own butter.
When hand mixers came out we got one and that made making butter a dream for a few years. That first hand mixer had metal gears but the same model by the time the first model wore out they were producing them with plastic gears. Needless to say the new models didn't last long making butter.
55 years ago when I got married I received one of those first models of that hand mixer. Guess what after 55 years it is still working fine. It is the only wedding gift I got that is still around.
I own both Food Saver machines (2) and a hand brake bleed off pump. I think everyone should own a brake bleed off pump. There might be a time in the near future that electric might be luxury or so costly that everyone is watching what they turn on..

Most of the time, I agree with you, or, like what your doing. Occasionally, I don't. Though I may share my preferences with you, I never act like your wrong. You never act like I'm wrong. We just choose to do it differently. Theres nothing wrong with that at all. Personally, I welcome your various methods as something for me to consider in case I need it one day. I love the break bleeder. I love my vacuum sealer. Since you showed me the brake bleeder, I use both, depending on what I'm doing. I've also started dehydrating rather than just freeze drying. I used to work as an operator for Pacific Bell in the 90s. The things people will say when they can sit back anonymously are often amazingly horrifying!! I had a lady call every day after she got off work. She'd dial "0" and let fly! One day I asked her "why do you do that?" She responded "well, it's because you're not a Real person." When I told her I was 💯 human and now had to go home to my family trying to peel her nasty attitude off" she apologized. People seem to have either zero respect or very little home training these days. Makes me wonder if they kiss their mothers and/or children with those mouths...or makes me want to "reach out and Touch someone!" (Remember that phone ad😂). Girllllll you are a blessing!! I just shared you with my Cousin because you're A+ in my book. Keep smiling and sharing!! Shame on them!!

I have had people that feel the need to "yell" at me and be very rude for information I gave but they simply missed it because they did not pay attention or because they simply did not like what I had to share. Sometimes with those people I take time to educate them on the fact that not only am I a real person, they are getting the information I have to share for free. I then ask them if when they go to a friend or family's home for a meal they did not have to make, do they then complain because they did not like one of the dishes served at the meal that cost them nothing? Some delete their rude comments, some ignore me, and on a very rare occasion, they come back and apologize

    • @mrssamiporter7070
      @mrssamiporter7070 Před 2 lety

@@RainCountryHomestead I really believe that "that" is the issue. When you word things in ways that make people "think" or realize that they need to actually take the time and expend some real energy to "rethink" about something, they often get nasty or choose to ignore whatever is being said. One thing my daughter often tells her friends is that, rather than choosing to be "triggered" or upset about "where they think" I'm going with a particular topic, to just actually Stop and Listen. I don't think like other people. I don't drop hints or veiled innuendos. I don't expect money or remuneration of some kind for what I'm clearly offering for free. I'm plain spoken but not mean spirited." I nearly cry sometimes realizing just how well she understands that about me.
That said, that's exactly how I see you. Plain spoken, clear sighted. Offering freely without innuendo or expectation of receiving anything in return. You're not even expecting thanks, though if given, it's genuinely accepted. You know that people can and actively do "choose" to come to this channel. No one forces or in any way coerces anyone to listen or view anything you do or say. So it can be taken with a grain of salt or simply ignored. You're simply sharing your heart, knowledge and understanding of things. This means "change" happens because you're growing, experimenting and learning. If others prefer the older way you did it or the newer, most times it's simply a preference, but never based on offense on your part. It's why these thoughtless, mean spirited, often foul and completely unnecessary expressions hurt your heart.
Please Sister-mine, 💐💐 remember that there are those like me who genuinely appreciate the time, care and heart that you show in every video that you do. It's a breathe of fresh, untainted air to those of us who are surrounded by people with "agendas". You do and say what I can't, whether by lack of knowledge or because I simply can't because of my brain injury. Just seeing your lovely face, hearing you say "God is good all the time" and seeing your creativity blesses my heart. Be encouraged!! You are a blessing!

Besides trying to get away from the plastic, I found at least one of my trays was warped and that was causing everything to go to one side of the tray and then spilled out all over my counter! GRRR!

I wish I remembered the part where you suggested adding coconut oil to the trays :-( 4 trays took me over 1 hr to get most but not all of the milk off of them. With each tray it got better as I attempted assorted ways to remove the dried milk. The center around the circle(s) where still sticky... NOTE TO SELF OIL THE TRAYS A BIT FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!

These are trying times, but you wouldn’t expect people who would watch this type of video in the first place to be so rude. That’s sad. I guess they don’t know that kindness is a virtue. Anyway, I am amazed by all that you have accomplished and now that I am trying to do some prepping for those hard times that I know are coming, I feel pretty far behind. I can’t believe people were using the F bomb at you because you stated you do not prefer to use a Food Saver. I can see it now chants at food shows Let’s Go Heidi… Let’s Go Heidi….
We had a new Food Saver just sitting in its box for three years and after seeing your video last week about them I decided why not use it until it dies. My wife bought me a regular and wide mouth vacuum lid set and I used them today to suck the air out of my recently canned dried goods. I’m hooked. I couldn’t stop opening up the lids just to hear the pressure sound.
Funny you showed the squash growing in the fence. I have a pumpkin that grew in a cinder block.

So many people have forgotten that we are entitled to our own ideas and opinions AND we have the freedom to share those ideas and opinions !!!
The know it all generation doesn’t want to learn from others experiences, I myself love that you do experiments and share your results and opinions !!!!!
Think of the ideas and options you have given to people about preserving food, not everyone can afford a freeze dryer and some can’t afford a vacuum sealer……you make it possible for those people to confidently preserve food !!!
I have eggs in one of my 4 dehydrators 😙, they are taking a long time but it’s rainy, foggy and cold right now. I probably should have waited for the weather to dry up a little or did it back in the hot dry summer 🤷🏼‍♀️
Has anyone out there done a test to see what it costs to run a dehydrator ??

Great timing for me on the dehydrating milk, the things we have still been buying from grocery store is milk and bread, going to start doing my own bread, but was wondering what to do about milk. I have long term milk powder from Honeyville, but didn’t want to open that until a worse case scenario, so trying this on dehydrator is excellent choice. Thanks Heidi for sharing this, blessings

What in the world is wrong with people?! That is crazy pants that anyone would curse at you for having an opinion on a PRODUCT! You would have thought you cursed at them about their kids or parenting...sheesh! It's crazy and flattering that the CEO of Foodsaver was watching your video 😉. At any rate...this was so interesting. It never in a million years occurred to me to dehydrate milk. I don't know why. But it's a good thing to keep in my mind. I didn't know that winter squash continue to ripen once harvested. Good to know. The square pumpkin reminds me of a children's book my kids read Spookily the Square Pumpkin, lol! I tend to stray away from halloween stuff, but I do remember them bringing that one home from the school library.

God bless you and yours Heidi! Psalm 27 came to me this morning and boy was it a perfect one just for you! Thank God you're a strong Christian woman, your channel is so vital in this day and age! On the break bleeder... I've found that anything new made after about 2018 is super poor quality, I bought a break bleeder this year & it is junky, so I'm gonna go fetch that video of yours you mentioned to see what suggestions are in the comments for other pumps to try. I did find an old dirt cheap foodsaver at a thrift store that's workin ok for now with Mr. Rain's vacuum chamber, but I don't want to rely on it long term because of your's & others experience with those that I've read, so thx for letting us know that those comments contain some good pointers! 🌻
