- The long run is one of the most iconic training sessions out there. Why do we do it? What goes on in the minds of our athletes?
Join Eliud Kipchoge, Kenenisa Bekele, Geoffrey Kamworor, Joshua Cheptegei and others for an inside view!
As a runner, I could watch these videos all day
Me too! It's so inspiring, even to a casual runner like me!
I'm going to watch these videos all day
i’m not a runner, and i could still watch these videos all day

"Nobody is small, nobody is big. We are all humans"
- Eluid Kipchoge
Nobody or "no body" ?
@@lutze5086 English is a funny language.
I’m sorry, but there’s no way in hell Eluid is “human”. No human being can do what he does.
Sure, but Eliud Kipchoge is Human from the other Star.
Eliud*
"Everybody is free, in long runs you don't have captains, we don't have bosses but we have leaders and we expect everybody to be a leader in his own capacity and to be in charge of the long run. We don't train people to perform or finish long runs but we train people to be human beings when they are running around" -Eliud Kipchoge.
So inspirational!
This quote really stood out for me. Don't train people to be great endurance runners. Train them to be human beings, the success in running will come. Fantastic.
Living Legend
It twist running into F1 racing. 🤣
I swear Kipchoge is a walking fortune cookie. Every time he speaks, it’s pure gold. You couldn’t write lines as good as what he says naturally.
The way he speaks "naturally" while being recorded for the entire world to see lol
I think this shows how educated and advanced his readings are.. 👍
I,m a runner,I feel good when I'm out there
we run just at 3:20 pace to warm up because we just human beings 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Agreed. Its like Bruce Lee or Muhammad Ali. Not everybody is gifted with words like them.
14:54 "Sometimes it's foggy, and running inside fog is sometimes fun. Because when you are running uphill you don't see it, you are just running, and then all of a sudden you are past the hill."
Great metaphor, even if he didn't mean it
whats the metaphor
@@michaelrezak1155 there will be moments in life where you feel lost (foggy), like all the things you've been doing are for nothing. But you have to keep moving forward, even if it feels like your goal is out of your reach and you've not been making any progress (when you are running uphill you don't see it). You have to endure the process, make it fun. When it's fun, it's easier to keep going and when you expect it the least you've already overcome the obstacles, you've already reached your objective (all of a sudden you are past the hill). When you reach the top of the hill everything will be clear and you will know that your efforts have paid off.
This is how I interpreted it, open to hear other analysis
Beautiful metaphor but damn how quick do you have to be to not notice that you just went past a hill
Great metaphor indeed. Although, that aside, fog or no fog, I will know hundred percent I'm going up a hill haha

I know, can you imagine!?!😅🏃🏿♂️🐆⚡
that's 5:20ish mile pace bruhhhhhhhhh
faster than my 5k race pace
I understand your concern. I run just for exercise and I have never seen that pace. Insane.

I watch this video every time before going out for my long runs.
beautiful
same dude! LOL
same here bro, I watch it during running to give me motivation
I do the same🙌really helps to keep focused and never think about how tired you are
To see those rolling hills of Africa and the perfect physical specimens of my people.... My African brothers and sisters are so beautiful
I LOVE these runner's work ethic. They have EVERYTHING you would want in an elite level runner: genetics, drive, discipline, passion. Their environment is great, also; very simple living, no distractions, elevation, great coaches and, great team members.
Explains a lot. They basically live in a world fabricated for one purpose.
Theyre living a very simple life. Their work is their passion. Thats what differenciate between these elites and us casual runners.
@@haziqjasmi3761 Well, that and possibly talent. Anyone running in that group has shown that they're capable of running fast.
Bekele is really a phenomenon, how he managed to stay on top for that long while training alone. He must have a mindset and a deeper motivation like no other athlete.
He runs with the Haji group.
Yes but often alone too
@@andrewmuriithi2148 He used to train alone
@@alecscheerer_run For competition he always trains with the Haji group.
@@andrewmuriithi2148 I thought he used to train alone for competition as well? I know now he trains in Haji group
After an year of overcoming my state of depression i am going to start my running. Eluid..my inspiration.. long live..

@Jyothish Chandran - how did you overcome your state of depression?
I'm looking forward to Physician assisted suicide to find relief from mine .....

What an absolute legend.

It's amazing that the Tokyo 2020 Men's Marathon top 3 finishers are all in this documentary (Kipchoge, Nageeye, & Abdi)!
Im not a runner..bt to keep myself fit..i run 5k in 26 minutes..i run in morning 6:15 Am..bt the hardest part is to get myself out of the bed..and best part is when i finish my 5k..that feeling is awesome.
I used to do that. Now I run 10k mostly. Next is half marathon. And next... You know :)

You have good pace..and you can run 42 km👍
2:55 pace w the f
youre smoking crack you fuck thats wr splits @Sourabh
1:50 I laughed when he said some athletes without mileage start having problems at 35 to 40 kilometers.... I have problems immediately the race starts😂😂
You're funny. My thought exactly.
Same here bro
Can barely reach 2 kilometers and I'm already out
I have problems even imagining it ..😂
Before 30km its a just a test of whether you can make it or not, millage count starts from 30k.🤣🤣
“At one point in life you cannot succeed alone.” Cheptegei
Good luck
Bekele did alone
"We don't train people to be runners we train them to be human beings while they run" - Epic shit.
I’m 65 yrs. old, only running 9 mos. I could watch a full documentary movie like this, from discovery to mental training to physical training, with the Olympics as a finish. What a bunch of warriors!
Bekele and Kipchoge are masterminds. Two very wise and philosophical human beings! Very inspiring.
"We don't have captains, we don't have bosses, we have leaders, and we expect everyone to be a leader in their own capacity.." - Kipchoge
What an inspiration. Kipchoge is so intelligent. You can tell he is a master at uniting very intelligent/competitive individuals to form a supergroup/superteam to cohesively work together rather than clash. This approach is incredibly useful if you want a group/team to be successful especially if they are extremely talented and competitive.
These guys are warriors, big respect.
All they do is running around all day…

I have noticed Runners are very humble athletes, They may be millionaires yet they are so down to earth. This really inspiring to work harder.
Not sure that there are many runners making millions. Not exactly a lucrative sport.
I’m a casual runner and this was more than just running motivation.. this was life changing wisdom.. very blessed my ears were able to take this in and my mind was able to comprehend for a better outcome in life and worldview.
I have a 13km route from home to work which from time to time I ride on my bike a normal trekking bike with cycling paddles but only use them on the weekend and my average time is 3:30 - 3:40 per KM and even when I am riding on the weekend I have a 35KM route I ride frequently and avarage only 3:00 - 3:10 with peak 5KM speed of 2:45 - 2:55 per KM. And that with cycling shoes.
That pace they are running is truly incomprehensible for me. My biggest respect to them.
Im amazed by this video, what runners, what such landscapes, what amazing views, what amazing place to run, i'd love to run in a place like this with that great people
Man I wish I could train with them. They are so motivated and there is no ifs and buts, they go for it. They are serious about it. Their life revolves around running. I love running, every free time I have, I would live it by running.
Eliud is such a gift to the sport and the world. Such a great role model for all, not just runners.
Cheptegei is talking about Marathons, can't wait to see him compete against the legends soon.
Yep! 😊❤🏃🏿♂️👍🏾
He’s the future of the sport
He just did! Breaking Bekele’s 5K record...
I watch this before every long run, which is extremely motivational. I hate to know how many times I've watched this video!
These ppl are super human, running 35-40kms a day with 3:30/km pace.
My respects to them.
Eliud Kipchoge is inspiration for 21st century youth, I started running 1-2 months back... initial days, it was tough, I mean very tough couldn't run even 1-1.5 km easily...but it starts improving for continuous training..now I can run 5-7 km. The problem is everyday we start running, its never so easy but when cross barrier of 2-3 km, it becomes easy for continue run for next 7-8 km nd...
Running is the mother of all exercises and Workout.
It's all about commitment, and these guys have it.
yeah and fresh air, altitude, top-notch sponsor equipment, group support, coaching, naturally light bodies, simple food, massage therapists, a realistic chance to win money in world marathons and half-marathons and all of this while training in a stress-free environment. Give me a break. The real heroes are the legions of 9 to 5 office workers breathing smog every day yet training for a marathon they know they can't possibly win.
@@giovanbattistafichera8439 but even if regular everyday people had this exact situation, they'd be very unlikely to be as committed as great runners.
@@giovanbattistafichera8439 Do you realize those folks are "professional athletes" - like any other profession in the World - so their "duty" is to "train professionally" to earn their money in their "chosen profession"? I'm a professional in engineering who happens to like running - yet I don't compared myself to them nor I considered me a hero because I train for a marathon on my own with the limited time I have while envying them for the opposite - to the contrary - I find inspiration in their "values, discipline, commitment, resilience, team work values" - all those things inherited in every single human being on the planet - they just happen to embracing and embody them in running.
Giovanbattista Fichera Give it a rest! You could have all that and still wouldn’t have the guts, dedication or drive to run a marathon in sub 2 hours. And neither would I. That’s not an insult or criticism, it it just a fact. It requires exceptional commitment and dedication to train like this, live like this and practice as a pro athlete like this. It’s not for everyone and most definitely not for the faint hearted. Just say well done and keep it moving. No need for negative energy.
May god bless you african runners ❤️ love and respect from the Philippines 🇵🇭
Elite marathon runners in my opinion are the most down to earth athletes. No sign of arrogance at all when they talk.

this is an inspiring video, it just came up into my recommended CZcams videos and I happen to have a long run tomorrow morning. When it comes to athletes, I believe long distance runners are on the top pyramid of any sport. It is amazing how their bodies work and endure these mileages at incredible pace. At the same time, they are very humble and doing this sport in the simplest way possible. I have true respect and admiration toward them all.
Long runs pay the bills! Another captivating film.
I have just started running again. At the moment, am huffing and puffing to 3km. These guys are so inspiring. This is the motivation I need.
Its such an honour to have gotten a chance to train with these great athletes at Kaptagat(global) especially or rather in long runs and speed work is such an amazing experience ever😍💪
What were the athletes drinking at the start of the film?
@@Cookefan59 Hot tea with milk, a must to start the day properly.
What is the speed work?
"We respect each other, nobody is big, nobody is small' that pretty much nails it. Too much is about the ego, sometimes sport too, while it actually shouldn't be. Sport should always be about something deeper: in order to achieve a sense of achievement yes, but not in order to feel superior than another human being.
These athletes have my respect for all the effort and passion they put on what they do. It's amazing and admirable their mindsets, how organized and respectful they are at training, and of course at competition :D
These runners and coaches are craftsmen of running
Beautiful doc .
Such great work ethic! Thanks for sharing this video...because i love being a fly on the wall to their experience.
I've run for about 24 years on and off. I ran the 1500 and the mile. The longest race I used to run was 10K road races for strength training. I can only imagine the strength and endurance needed to run a 40 K long run. Their pace looks any where from 5:30 to 4:45 mile pace. These are world class runners. This vid is a great teaching tool for all distance running.
Didn't want it to end! Could definitely watch a long for version of this. Inspired me to run today
I love watching Eliud running. It’s very relaxing.
