    Mesmerizing instrument, not sure I could play it as a pianist.

    • @ScottUhlMusic
      @ScottUhlMusic  Před 2 lety

      It’s definitely different than a piano… but also very similar. Especially just music theory wise and how you use both hands at once. So it’s similar, but different for sure. Such a cool instrument!

    Nice video, thank you. Thinking about buying one. Can you dive a little into the sequencer please? + can you do some sensitivity demonstration? Not sure how, but maybe some other camera angle and trying to press it as light as possible or something similar. With some synth.

      I'm working on a performance video and a deep dive video into this. I'll definitely try to include that into it. I'll probably need to do separate deep dives. One that's more of a demo with the things you are asking about, and then one about all the ways to program it. Thanks!

    • @ScottUhlMusic
      @ScottUhlMusic  Před 2 lety

      No, you can change that setting very easily in the app. You can either set to chromatic (stepped as you called it) or set it to be a true glissando

  • @johnsheffer1824
    @johnsheffer1824 Před 2 lety +3

    I have a question about the mpe pitch bend. Can you set it so if you play or stop a slide between notes it'll hold a microtone (out of tune note) or does it quantize/autotune to the nearest semitone? I'm interested in finding an mpe device that can do microtones or very slow glisandos.

    • @ScottUhlMusic
      @ScottUhlMusic  Před 2 lety

      I believe it’s microtonal, but I haven’t really messed with that part too much

    Can you program a single pad( or more as long as they are big enough to be easily playable) to respond like a single drum head with different parameters the further away you go from the center of the pad so it can trigger varieties of the same sound like a real drum?
    Thanks.

    • @ScottUhlMusic
      @ScottUhlMusic  Před rokem

      That probably depends on the software you are using with it. MPE can be difficult to program but my guess is that yes it would work, but I’ve never done that

      @peterpeper4837 Před rokem

      @@ScottUhlMusic Thank you for the reply.
      I m not sure if it is a matter of MPE programming one pad with different zones and each zone to transmit at different midi channels. I gues it could be if you can program a single pad to transmit MPE

    Well, technically this is the first review video on this device from a generic user... Thanks a lot for this.
    Appreciate all the hard work you are doing for us to show the potential of this controller.
    Please try to cover the following topic which will help us who are waiting to get our hands dirty with this new device (these are the most discussed topics in FB forum).
    1) Try to show the velocity/pressure sensitivity with a soft touch from a side camera angle (already mentioned by others)
    2) Try to show the "slide sensitivity". Is it possible to perform fast slide and glide that is typically performed in a physically bowed instrument? While doing fast slide/glide does it trigger extra notes in between sliding notes? I would like to treat this as an instrument than just a midi controller.
    3) Is there any (considerable) latency that may impact fast play?
    4) Is it possible to create true isomorphic layout? (I know EMbodme working to fix it in next version of Erae Lab).
    5) This one is of personal interest - Is it possible to quickly swap between "guitar mode of play" and "slide mode of play like Violin" in the press of a button. Not looking for a change of layout, rather the mode of play in the same layout. I heard it is possible using glissando and vibrator "smoothing" sliders which I could not find in the Lab software.

    • @ScottUhlMusic
      @ScottUhlMusic  Před 2 lety +2

      Thanks for the comment. I’ll add these to my list of stuff to do for future videos. I might do a “how to program your own” as well as an in-depth demo with these things in mind. I can tell you for sure with #3 that the latency is incredible! Best midi controller I’ve ever used in regards to latency for sure!! If there is any, it’s honestly not felt whatsoever with me

      Hahaha it WILL be a little while. I’m working on my performance video first and working on it now. This thing is really awesome IMO! It will take a while to get a more in depth video put together. And I’ll likely do a “how to program it” video as well. So it will take a while :/ I have some other videos I need to finish as well 🤘

  • @ryanvincentjaeger
    @ryanvincentjaeger Před 2 lety +1

    Does the silicone surface have any resistance when you're sliding your fingers across it? I've never felt any Roli products so I have no reference.
    Also, if this was your ONLY midi controller would you feel the lack of physical knobs/sliders/keys a problem for precision or feel? (which would be the most IYO, if at all)
    I'm considering this product by itself instead of a Faderfox PC12 + Tablet + QuNexus or some other small midi keyboard to control some hardware. It would be quite the space saver.
    Thanks for the video!

    • @ScottUhlMusic
      @ScottUhlMusic  Před 2 lety +3

      These types of controllers are definitely different than a standard keyboard, and it’s almost like learning a new instrument. I don’t feel resistance when doing a glissando though, and it feels very natural to vibrato or apply more pressure. But it is like learning a new instrument. But I still love this thing and I’m adding it to my setup

    Hi is it poss to divide the interface into two parts...one side triggering the chords within a scale with one button only and another playing single notes in that same scale on a different midi channel?

    • @ScottUhlMusic
      @ScottUhlMusic  Před rokem +1

      I haven't done that, but I'm almost positive the answer is yes for sure. This thing is extremely customizeable.

    • @DespairQuietlyPlease
      @DespairQuietlyPlease Před rokem

      @Scott Uhl Let me know if you fancy trying...the idea of having chords in a scale at the touch of a button on one midi channel and on another a keyboard for notes in that same scale would def render this item unuque in the market...kind if a more intuitive MPE version of theoryboard or kordbot.

    Thank you so much for the great review. Just subscribed. How does it feel applying pressure and the response compared Roli, Seseil, Linstrument etc. as far as what you have heard or what you’ve tried yourself. Thanks so much!

    What’s so cool about it ?
    It looks like a old light bright toy from the 80s.
    What is so cool about having a low resolution grid of lightbulbs that you have to figure out what is what with no means to read anything other than knowing what the matrix of lights mean.
    Sorry this looks like a toy and a very frustrating toy when the push2 can do this easier.
    It’s like everyone wants this to be the future.
    This is not cool. It’s just archaic confusing convoluted dumb way of working. Sorry not convinced. You bought a toy and I guess you have to defend your purchase!
