- I think this is the most appropriate comparison I made in awhile lol. Both Tori and Jessie are truly some of the best singers in pop music today. Jessie has a gritty, commanding voice and Tori has a raspy, silky voice. Together, they can sang the roof of the building. They need to go on tour.

HaZ3 Both of them are lyric coloratura sopranos. Jessie's voice is a tad heavier. In my opinion, I would give them a tie. There's something in Tori's voice that is special. I can't really explain it

Lol JoJo is only 2 years older than Tori. People tend to think that she's much older but that's because she had her debut at age 12. So they're both still in the same age group. I love them both tho.

I've always said Jessie's tone sounds like an engine; it's so aggressive and daunting. Her riffs/runs always make smile for some unknown reason lol
Tori is clearly an amazing singer but I think the difference between the two is obviously their tones; they can both do all the melisma shiz but it ultimately comes down to personal preference.
My top three favourite singers are Jessie J, Adam Lambert and Tori Kelly.
I just have to go with Tori, she just got a little bit more of something in her voice and the way she feels the song. That I just just got to go with her with.

I love both of them and both are amazingly talented. But somehow Jessie has something which I can't explain but that makes me love her more. +evolutionofwords For me Tori has a slightly better overall technique. Jessie's placement on the belts is quite bad and always souns throaty. Tory sounds throaty at times but has some cleaner belts at list on the midbelts (B4, C5). And I've heard some good F5 from her.

So yall these are 2 of the best singers in music PERIOD, they are the best - Tori is just a well crafted singer like a nimble gazelle, she really crafted & perfected her sound - her rasp, her tone, her runs/riffs/Melismas & her sound overall is just SOOO CONTROLLED & EFFORTLESS! I love her - she is truly a force to be reckoned with ... Jessie J on the other hand is just a VOICE you come across ONCE IN A LIFETIME, she is so UNIQUE & SPONTANEOUS !! She just gives life with he voice - like her runs & riffs are so ORIGINAL, her performances are so RAW & ELECTRIC & HER VIBRATO IS SOOOO KILLER & fast !! Tori can hold notes longer. But they are both awesome.
Not true. Tori can hold notes longer (without vibrato), while Jessie can't even with vibrato. Jessie's breath control is one of her weaknesses (occasionally, she does have those moments where she sustains notes for insane amounts of time... I don't remember in which performance she did this, but Jessie belted and sustained an F5 with vibrato for around 5 seconds)

@@ronniratliff853 Yeah... NO. Tori is a MUCH better vocalist than Jessie and also beats her in the department of vocal agility and in the whistle register. Tori also has better intonation when singing live. The only things Jessie has over her are vibrato and emotion/soul (and the second one is totally subjective; I personally feel that Jessie pours more emotion into her performances than Tori, while Tori focuses a bit more on technique than Jessie)

Jessie J, doesn't know where to stop when she's riffing. She doesn't have the end note in mind. That's where Tori's musicianship shines through. Tori's agility in general is also slightly better. Other than that I definitely think Jessie J is the better vocalist. Her belting is much better and she can go much higher, while sounding surprisingly full (especially when she was younger). Low registers are probably equal
Tori Kelly and Jessie J are both great singers but I would have to go with Jessie J cuz her voice is much soulful and expressive than Tori's. Also, Idk if it's just me but Jessie J has some vocal similarities to Deborah Cox.

As far as their rifting and running goes, It's tied for me. Jessie rifts for show, she rifts to wow and showcase that she can do a lot with her voice but that sometimes can be sloppy and unnecessary. I will say that because Jessie does sing to wow, the way she structures a lot of her vocals won me over moreso than Tori's. Tori's rifts and runs are to wow as well, but she tends to focus more on control, placement and runs that enhance a vocal and song while performing it.
I love Tori, but Jessie is amazing singer.
I think they're even overall, but Tori is definitely better technically. As far as riffs and runs, I would say Tori. I think she's more creative with hers, whereas Jessie's runs and riffs sound the same.

I think both there riffs are creative and both very aggressive in a good way I'm a huge tori fan but also Jessie j and to be honest no matter what we say you can never compare two completely different but amazingly strong talented artist with 2 completely different styles of songs and singing

Wow. I was absolutely breathless this entire battle. Both extraordinary talents. Jessie's got the Bb4-C5 range but C#5 and up it starts to shift to Tori. Both have their own issues starting at Eb5, like Tori's shrillness and Jessie's throatiness and larynx issues but I was very very impressed with these two. And Jesus was straight up INCREDIBLE at that concert on Yahoo. Wow.
I love this battle...I didn't know tori could blow like that...this was fair in a battle...they are lyric coloraultra sopranos...their approach to music is different...they are both soulful but Tori's soul in her high notes are light, smooth and strong while Jessie's is strong, operatic and dramatic depends on preference ultimately...I grew up listening to voices similar to Jessie's so I prefer her approach although Tori's is very refreshing, cool and confident and so light..two melodic melismastic powerful voices that I would love to stick around and continuing to make awesome music

My god! I love Tori but I have to say that all the belted notes are better from Jessie, Tori's voice is very good, but when it comes to really high notes the sound is painful, Jessie's notes are always resonant and big, and Jessie's vocal technique is better. About the melismas, Tori wins.
They are both equally good it comes down to personal preference which is good. I like when we can all agree to have favorites. I think they are like a miniature version of the famous Mariah vs. Whitney debate. Both are good, it just comes down to what you prefer.

Tori just sounds prettier and it's pretty pleasant to hear in my opinion. Tori's ability to "rasp it up" or voice break intentionally attract me more than Jessie. Tori's riffs also sound cleaner, melodic and I just prefer her riffing style.

Both seem even on the midbelts (Bb4-C#5), although I think Tori's strive for a raspy quality can hinder her resonance. Above that D5+Eb5 I am giving to Tori. E5 and up...eh...I don't know. I kind of think that's when both of them start dropping in quality. Tori's high notes from E5 to F5 sound really rough but there is some tone in them (that one F5 at 6:26). That's when that raspy quality starts holding her back. I feel like Jessie's mix is the only thing she truly has over Tori in this section. I'd probably give her F5+F#5. G5 up is a toss up to me.
When it comes to melisma I am going with Tori. Jessie has a lot of ideas, and she has moments that are exciting and fun to watch. However I just find her inconsistent. I don't have a problem with showing off, but she does that on top of losing focus musically. Super spotty. Tori however is exciting, and moves with the music. Much more refined and her agility is much better in general (that PYT run she does is amazing point blank).
Overall I am going with Tori. She has a good midbelt, and some of her upperbelts are not bad, but definitely not a highlight for me. I don't think her raspiness is a natural quality to her voice, and I think it prevents her from handling her upperbelts in a better way. But it is what it is. Her agility is really her defining trait as a vocalist, and she utilizes it in a way that is above a lot of her contemporaries (including Jessie). Jessie J is an exciting singer to watch, but as a vocalist, I definitely think she loses here. She also has a solid midbelt, but above that things go sour, and the only reason I really gave her the upperbelts was because I liked hers just slightly more (oh so very slightly)

I know this is a belting battle but I've always found Jessie J's runs and melisma a tad bit strange. It's like very disconnected you can hear the breaks when she's transitioning through her voice. It's to explain. Like when Tori runs it's usually very smooth and legato: vvvvvvvv

That's called her passagio. I think she naturally has a very weak passagio like you said but sometimes it's intentional. I feel like she likes to sing that way and have a very heavy tone. She also sings very hard with a lot of vibrato and that can conflict with the passing of the registers. But I don't think you can compare her to Tori because Tori doesn't even attempt the same kinds of notes and phrases that Jessie does. They have two different tones of voice (tessitura) which require different vocal usages if that makes sense.

For me, Jessie J wins, she has such a powerful voice, solid vocals. She can hit a B#5 note with chest voice btw.

tori kelly has more control over her voice and she has wide range and she's really in to music. She makes her own songs, she learned lots of songs on the guitar, piano, and drums. Her voice is raspy when it gets to high notes so its very soothing to hear and she can slayyyy those high notes.
Jessi has a wide range but she doesn't have that much control. Her singing style is very common. She does to much curves in her belts.

jessie j wins for me. her lower register support is better and has better mid rang. tori gets rasp after Bb4. stronger and more power from jessie. they both sound pretty similar as their voice peak into the high register Eb5+. even though tori is doing more difficult runs, it doesnt convince me that it is natural and she gets a lot of rasp to compensate. Bottom line they both were have very similar voices I feel that jessie J supports her lower voice better and tori pushes the top register alot more(which I dont think is better from a perspective of tone). when jessie j goes into her high register it just seem less tried and rehearsed. tori cant sing an open B4 like jessie does at 10:05 its like she's already leaning toward her higher part of her voice at Bb4 and thats why she gets rasp there.
jessie sure as hell doesn't support her lows better. tori has down to like f3, while jessie has like bb3 lol. tori's also a bit better in belting
daydream tori does have easier access to her upper range but not without compromise at around Bb4. her gets thinner and brighter to maintain an "open sound". Jessie puts down more power in that area. strangely when both are in the higher part of their voice they sound similar.....anyways its just my opinion to prefer jessie. I think her more aggresive tone is more appealing and has a bit more character.

This is a contest between 2 completely different voice types. Tori naturally has a lighter sound in her tessitura versus Jessie J with a darker tone and significantly more depth in her voice. Resonance is the key when it comes to belting, this is attributed to breathe control. In my humble opinion Jessie J would win in terms of technical vocal execution, melisma while staying in tune and having exact pitch, and most importantly vocal control. Tori has a lighter sound, which makes her belts have less depth and sound less controlled especially when entering the 5th octave. Jessie J is much more natural for her tessitura in this higher belting range along with being much more healthy with mixing as well. Both outstanding vocalists in their own right but 2 completely different sounds however Tori can be compared to many unlike Jessie J who's voice is 100% unique.
