    What does everyone think of this dust boot? Are there any improvements you’d like to see?

      What does this attach to? Do you know which version that one is? I think I’d like that the hose attaches from the rear for easier viewing of what the spindle is doing, although I do often disconnect the hose to vacuum up stray dust from changing the bit or whatever. Do you still like it two years later?

    Go Navy! My boy is currently serving on the Theodore Roosevelt as a EMN 3. I have an older Shapeoko 3 that I built an enclosure for about 4 years ago. I bought the Axiom style shoe, that was pretty much all that was out at the time. Still use it and it works pretty well as long as the brush is close to the work. The other reason I like it is because of the brush length, I'm doing some deep cuts. I also incorporated dust collection all the way across at the back of the enclosure as well. That really helps with catching the stuff the shoe doesn't pickup but you need serious CFM dust collection system the shop vac doesn't quite get it done.

    Hi Chris, we love all the great videos. I am new to CNC and have had many moments of frustration trying to figure some these things out. Have you ever considered making some videos (or lessons) on the nuts and bolts of Carbide Create/Motion. I would even pay for the the information. It could sure help a lot of new folks out. What do you say?

      What’s the difference between the v2 and v3?

    • @Hinkleshop

      The v3 has had the dust collection area increased by removing a web that runs across the boot
      pretty difficult to describe
      pwncnc has an assembly video for the v3 that does a great job showing the difference with both versions in hand

    I love the idea of having a camera near the work face. Unfortunately the fact that it's attached to the Z axis and therefore bounces up and down gives me motion sickness. I was impressed by the dust shoe and as I'm at the point in my CNC build where a dust shoe is required, I'll be leaning heavily on this design.

    • @ChrisPowellFSD
      @ChrisPowellFSD  Před 4 lety

      I have since moved it to a mount that attaches to the z axis pulley guard. Now it doesn’t follow the up and down movement of the z. It’s a lot better. If you watch some of my newer videos, you can see how it looks now and the difference in the video.

    • @ChrisPowellFSD
      @ChrisPowellFSD  Před 3 lety

      I just used one of the 1/4” camera mount to GoPro adapters originally. I drilled and tapped a hole in my router mount. I didn’t like how it moved up and down with the z axis, so I moved it to my upper belt/pulley guard. Then I added an aluminum arm and some pivot attachments to get the right angle on everything.

    Hey Chris, did you ever run into the issue that the back of the dust boot and the hose is hitting the clamps, even if when I raise the boot to the highest position (tho the brush is not the work piece any more and the dust can escape)

      They do offer a smaller machine. The only issue I could see is from the noise. I have the machine in an enclosure, so it’s pretty quiet, but the vacuum I run for the dust collection is really loud.

    • @ChrisPowellFSD
      @ChrisPowellFSD  Před 2 lety +1

      It rubbed against the zip ties on the back of the rail, but didn’t hurt anything. The new version they make has a hard tube that runs up the back, so it doesn’t touch anything.

    Got the boot for a xmas gift after watching your video. I had the Suckit which works pretty well. First impressions of the Pwn is that it's pretty flimsy. The attachment in front pops up and down when going over my low profile hold down clamps. If its suppose to do that, why put magnets? Installation was a piece of cake but when reading the instructions, it mentions you might have to do minor modifications like filing the support arms. I think for $120 it should be ready to go and tested before delivery. Another concern is that the brushes can not be in contact with the stock material. If it is, the boot will shift within the arms. The magnets suck and doesn't do crap holding the boot in place. For $120 I should be getting stronger magnets. I'm back to the Suckit dustboot because after the 4th day of having the Pwn, the hose connected to the adapter in the back got hung up to one of my hold down clamps causing the boot to come off and getting chewed up in the bit. After watching your video I noticed your boot is about a 1/4" above the material. For $120, that is unacceptable. The only good thing about it was the dust collection but the cheap construction was not worth $120.
    Just my opinion...

    • @ChrisPowellFSD
      @ChrisPowellFSD  Před 4 lety +1

      I had the boot sitting a little higher in this video because it was hitting my guides. I have since fixed this by changing them out to ones that sit lower. Now I run the brushes right against my material. Do you have the bracket that connects the brackets to the z axis? That adds a lot of rigidity.

    • @jdogg4855
      @jdogg4855 Před 4 lety

      @@ChrisPowellFSD I do. The problem is there's too much flex where the boot slides into the arm causing the boot to shift within the slots. In the few days I had it on, I had the boot to a height where the brushes just grazed the material and still there was a lot of shifting going on.
