This is my take on the Nyko Zoom for the Kinect sensor on the Xbox 360. Consider yourself warned, I do not advise purchasing this product. Watch the video to find out why.
To all the people saying the protective cover would not have made any difference first learn about the product it does not go over the lenses of the kinect it in fact covers the black plastic around the lenses... so the part which you scratched. Don't complain because you did not take the correct precautions and so scratched your product due to an error made by yourself.
0:41 "I didn't put this on, this is kinda like a screen protector for your Kinect sensor" 2:17 "There should be some form of protection on those lenses, so it doesn't scratch" 🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓
1 i dont usually comment on videos that often but it said to put that protective guard on incase you go to remove it and 2 did you make sure the light lit up through the light on the zoom? 3 did you calibrate it after you put it on then turned the system on? and 4 did you have it more then 4 feet off the ground/ i went to the website and it made a bunch of points on there and i have it my rooms big but long so i needed this and it worked
You didn't installed the scratch protector and now you are complaining about a scratch? The instructions are very clear and the risk of scratch is very obvious. I can understand a complain where the is no advice about a possible damage, but in this case there is an advice and also a way to prevent it.
it supposedly works but if you are used to playing at the required distance it can be a problem. The thing is it is good if you are playing solo but if you are playing with someone it may not catch them. The Zoom does reduce 40% of your range so if you are playing with someone you will have to be uncomfertably close. Other than that it seems like a decent device. It's not for me, I put my kinect in my livingroom
hi i tried my zoom on my kinect again and guess what????? it worked, i discovered the zoom wasn't snapped into place apparently it wasnt fully lined up with the lenses when i moved the zoom a bit to the left i think it was it made a snapping nose the type of noise something makes when it locks into place and bingo i could see everything and of course myself on my tv screen, what a relief it is to know i haven't wasted 30 euros, and you are actually zoomed in closer so it does what it sais.
i think fairplay to you, although im not bothered about scratching the plastic cover ( im sure the kids or dog will break it anyway) im more keen to find out if it works in a small room! all the best.
It works fine for me, no film used, not scratched, it says in the booklet that you should not slide it, even if it would scratch the plastic, i wouldn't mind, as long as it does not scratch the lenses
you know it does have a giant instruction sheet that tells you to put the protective sticker on first. you didn't follow the product's instructions and now you're complaining about it...??
Okay if you dont try to slide it on and rather clip it over at the lenses it wont scratch it. logical enough? Mine was crap when first used with dance central; couldn't track my hand movements without a lot of effort. I CALIBRATED using the calibration card which comes with Kinect and most Kinect games and now its working fine! Still testing though.
@metagamers thank you for your opinion. i feel bad for your kinect though. this is a big flaw for nyko. they should have changed the instructions. i probably wont buy it because i dont want to put a sticker over my kinect. thank you.
Clearly you did not read the instructions because it tells you to place sticker on kinect sensor, because they were aware of this happening, so don't even try to complain. Plus alot of people say the kinect zoom didn't work, but by looking at other videos, it worked perfectly because they took their time to calibrate it correctly...
iCarbonsDOTcom make some really nice high quality skins for the Xbox 360. I emailed them about a skin for the Kinect and they said that they releasing one. Just a FYI if you want to use a skin to cover the Kinect sensor and protect it from future damage. Btw, we got the Zoom on release day and have found that the Kinect works better without it. We should have waited for some reviews but We were sure it would work.
Gees, that is horrible. I was thinking about getting one, but read some other reviews about issues with it. Thanks for the review, you saved me some grief.
I wish I would have seen this before. It scratched my Kinect as well. Mainly on the top and it couldn't find the floor so it didn't work. The thing is garbage.
it has not worked for me at all. it never tracked my movements. when i calibrate the kinect without the zoom i can clearly see what it is looking at, i can clearly see that my ceiling fan is a ceiling fan. with the zoom on everything is really messed up and everything looks bad, i can not tell my ceiling fan is a ceiling fan it looks more like a blocky object. i cleaned the lenses and it did nothing. personally i do not think this i a good buy. got it at bjs for 1699 after rebate.
the zoom just blurs and ignores all corners and sides of the lense so it just focusses on the middle part...(supposedly where you should be) and it should work its just shitty and crappy if ur not living in a basement or a 2x2 m room :PP
I just bought one of these. Wish I'd watched this first! It doesn't work at all and can't even find me. lol. What a waste of money. Returning it now. :)
Ok sorry to say but in your video you stated that you did not use the screen protector, and then you complain that it scratched the Kinect, I got to ask were you surprised ....? Ok
Thanks for the warning I like the idea of thins other people say it works for them and theres plenty of people mentionong the damage doesnt come from the lens adaptors it is a fitting removal thing. NIce to see the 'Ive got nothing better to do than write negative comments on everybody elses videos squad' is still alive. I say thanks for the warning, and if your not happy with the 'review' do your own! Again thanks for the warning. Best regards Tobi H
exact problem here too. and don't listen to anyone else on what they think. scratched my kinect to hell. its not a big technical problem but it does make a great big eyesore. wish i woulda seen this before i bought this piece of crap. IGN can sucks it. tracking is horrible even after calibration.
WHY IS THAT WITH THIS ZOOM THING ON ITS LIKE AS IF IT NEEDS A WHOLE LOT MORE LIGHT. WHEN I WENT TO KINECT TUNER MY ROOM SEEMS AS THOUGH IM PLAYING IN DARKNESS. WTF IS WITH THIS PRODUCT??
Actually it is their fault, but it should also be the fault for any who buy this after Microsoft was adamant that the Zoom should not be used with the Kinect.
@metagamers Still... common sense would probably tell you to maybe use it in case. If it can damage it by moving it on and off regularly then it can scratch it the first time. I think this review is a little harsh.
93 people.. and myself say otherwise... I wont dislike the video but I have not had this problem... FOR ME ONLY... It is easy to install and remove and does not seem to damage my Kinect at all.
I just opened mine out the box d it did exactly what ur saying very poor product reduces sensor recognition and doesnt do anything near what it says it does on the box it actually makes it alot worse and less enjoyable ..IT Has Also Scratched my Kinect arghhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!im really mad
I just bought a Kinect and a Zoom for it and mine works perfectly fine. You like the hundreds of others who have given the Zoom are just Technologically Challenged. It's ok. This is God's way of saying you shouldn't handle electronics. That's to include TVs, Video Games, etc. it's alright, maybe you should be Amish.
I have seen many a product like this not just for kinect car mirrors are just one on the car I learnt to drive in had additional lenses instead of helping my vision it made it horrible and even my instructor struggled to work with them great for corner reverse crap for everything else the zoom looks just the same super magified and that's what throws this out.
yeah i have this device and i had the same issue. it will scratch the kinet. i just doesnt work well with every game. i give this product a 6/10. not worth the money
Ummm, first of all, you have to put the protective sticker on the kinect itself before putting the Zoom on. Says it right in the directions. It's your own fault for putting it on wrong. Second, you don't slide it off. You just unclip it from the back. Common sense!
JUST BE GRATEFUL THAT IT WAS'NT THE LENS.. THE OTHER PARTS ARE WORTHLESS... MINE HAS STIXKERS ALL OVER IT( NOT THE LENS) AND IT SEES MY BLACK ASS PERFECTLY!
They should probably soften up those lenses and offer more protection than just that film, but really... The fact that your kinect is scratched is your fault. Furthermore, you purchased this for your kids stepping out of frame, not because you have too small of a space to use the kinect in... So you give the product a bad review for not fixing an issue that it was never designed to fix and for scratching your kinect when you didn't use the protection it provided you. Pretty terrible...
I do feel sympathy for your damage, but there should be a protector comes with the Nyko Zoom. Did you put that protector on your Kinect before you install the Nyko Zoom?
that is the worst product i have ever seen it dosent work in bright light and it dosent find the floor if its located on top of the tv and yes scratched my Kinect DO NOT BUY THIS ZOOM
To all the people saying the protective cover would not have made any difference first learn about the product it does not go over the lenses of the kinect it in fact covers the black plastic around the lenses... so the part which you scratched. i don't really care much about the scratch as long as it works but really when i use the zoom i had a lot of difficulty using the kinect...
It does work you didn't plan to take it off? You took it of exactly ur problem
I got one today and it comes with a protective "skin" for cover the lens area, very good and recommend.
Hmmmmmmmm I wonder why it COMES WITH A SCREEN PROTECTOR
You didn't installed the scratch protector and now you are complaining about a scratch? The instructions are very clear and the risk of scratch is very obvious. I can understand a complain where the is no advice about a possible damage, but in this case there is an advice and also a way to prevent it.
bro, atleast it didnt scratch the lenses, shouldve put on the screen protecor
and plus this isnt to make the veiw area bigger it makes it smaller so you can put your kinect in a small room
they should put rubber lining or at least microfiber lining on the inside of the lenses to be easy on the kinect sensor
it supposedly works but if you are used to playing at the required distance it can be a problem. Instructions say never slide the ZOOM on or off the Kinect for that particular reaon. I just bought it and I had very little problems with it.
hi i tried my zoom on my kinect again and guess what????? it worked, i discovered the zoom wasn't snapped into place apparently it wasnt fully lined up with the lenses when i moved the zoom a bit to the left i think it was it made a snapping nose the type of noise something makes when it locks into place and bingo i could see everything and of course myself on my tv screen, what a relief it is to know i haven't wasted 30 euros, and you are actually zoomed in closer so it does what it sais.
This video only shows a frustrated consumer blaming another for his own stupidity, and of course, recording it for the posterity.
i didnt open my zoom yet thankfully so i think i will be returning it to my local gamestop. thanks for the video.
Even if he put them on, it would have not stopped the scratches on his Kinect and would not have protected the lens from similar scratches.
it tells u not to slide if off in big words in the directions, i have the same thing.
i think fairplay to you, although im not bothered about scratching the plastic cover ( im sure the kids or dog will break it anyway) im more keen to find out if it works in a small room!
all the best.
It works fine for me, no film used, not scratched, it says in the booklet that you should not slide it, even if it would scratch the plastic, i wouldn't mind, as long as it does not scratch the lenses
I didnt get a protector and it didnt really scratch mine
@metagamers did u re tune your kinect
I had the same problem and it did not damage my censor.
you know it does have a giant instruction sheet that tells you to put the protective sticker on first. you didn't follow the product's instructions and now you're complaining about it...??
Wow,,,,, I don't really care about the scratching part but the not tracking part ,, damn . And I was looking forward in purchasing this bad boy.
They do give you strips to do just that....prevent scratches!
It didn't scratch mine lol (I put the protector on) but it can't track me at all DX now I gotta dig up my receipt!
does this work i am planning on getting this for christmas. plz reply
Okay if you dont try to slide it on and rather clip it over at the lenses it wont scratch it. logical enough?

how?
mine still have the plastic cover never took it off the zoom didnt scratch anything u just heavy handed
That's because you HAVE to put the screen protector
Gees, that is horrible. I was thinking about getting one, but read some other reviews about issues with it. Thanks for the review, you saved me some grief.
I had one for 2 days then returned it. Did not work. Rendered Kinect useless. I don't think it scratched my Kinect.
The instructions also state Do Not Slide.
I wish I would have seen this before. It scratched my Kinect as well. Mainly on the top and it couldn't find the floor so it didn't work. The thing is garbage.

sorry for my spelling i meant snapping noise
the zoom just blurs and ignores all corners and sides of the lense so it just focusses on the middle part...(supposedly where you should be) and it should work its just shitty and crappy if ur not living in a basement or a 2x2 m room :PP
mine got scratched from the zoom to!
i have a kinect but it is complicated
I just bought one of these. Wish I'd watched this first! It doesn't work at all and can't even find me. lol. What a waste of money. Returning it now. :)
I give you a thumbs dumb sir!

They GAVE you the lens protection. It was your fault by not using them.

93 people.. and myself say otherwise... I wont dislike the video but I have not had this problem... FOR ME ONLY... It is easy to install and remove and does not seem to damage my Kinect at all.

DOESN'T WORK PROPERLY
Ummm, first of all, you have to put the protective sticker on the kinect itself before putting the Zoom on. Says it right in the directions.
