Well here's my take on Jordan's 45: First and foremost, 45 was not MJ's number. He knew it, we knew it, everyone knew it. His number was 23. He only had 45 BECAUSE 23 was already retired, and either they didn't want to go through the process of unretiring it, or they were waiting for the process to unfold, or...whatever. But it was Jordan himself who wanted to switch back to 23 because 45 just wasn't his number. As far as accomplishments...I don't think the issue is that he didn't accomplish enough. I suppose I would say he didn't--NO ONE can accomplish enough in 22 games to have their jersey retired--but that isn't the issue. The issue is it wasn't his number. 45 is just a placeholder. Kobe has 2 numbers retired because he spent a substantial part of his stellar career wearing both numbers. It's a totally different situation. For the Miami Heat to retire the number of someone who never even played for them makes absolutely no sense. The Heat should un-retire 23. MJ was a Chicago Bull, period.
