      Yessss! Howdy Amy! As long as you don’t make a rookie mistake taking princess pictures on slippery rocks under a waterfall…you know what these turned out pretty good over the year. Your going to love them:)

    Hi zac, thx for sharing this review, may i ask, if i usually wear 28.5 cm insole, do i need to upsize when pick this ?

    • @zacmagers
      @zacmagers  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Howdy!
      So typically for my urban shoes I wear 9.5-10 US depending on the brand. When I got the Salomon boots I ordered 9.5 US. However when I tried them on for the first time, I found they were almost a half size too big, and my initial thought was to size down to 9 US, a half size less than what I typically wear.
      However someone at work with experience suggested that before I return the boots for a half size down, I look into more robust inserts. By adding more robust inserts you actually want the additional wiggle room or half size too big to account for a more sizable / thicker insert.
      When I put on mid weight wool socks and some performance inserts from Sole, it sucked up the near half size of wiggle room I was experiencing and now the boots feel amazing!
      So all that to say, if you predict you will upgrade your inserts, I wouldn’t size up but get the normal size you typically purchase with urban shoes, chances are they will be slightly too big but have enough extra space for performance soles and thicker wool socks.
      If you do not want upgraded to thicker inserts, I would size down a half size from what you typically wear.
      This was my experience at least. Most reviews I have seen say the Salomon are too tight / small.
      Hope this helps!

    Thanks, I was on the gate about these do to not needing water boots. I’m in Vegas where it’s very hot. What would you recommend?

      Howdy Michael!
      You know as time went on since I filmed that, the boots continued to grow on me by man…no way am I trusting these near water.
      I’ve just begun testing out Olympus 5 and Lone Peak 8, but I don’t have near enough experience to make recommendations on those just yet, need to put them to work this summer.
      I can say so far the Olympus 5 has a phenomenal grip around water and kept my feet much cooler.
      Thanks for checking out the vid :)

    Hey man! I' m going to iceland in november and im looking for a pair of shoes that keep the ice out. I'm not planning on submerging them, just want to keep moisture out. Thoughts?

      Howdy there !
      Great question. While Im not experienced even in areas of light precipitation backpacking, Im certainly not yet experienced in snow / icy conditions, however I did pick up a pair of the Climasalomon Ultra 4 early this year that I plan on putting to the test in light snow conditions. Theres a lot of expensive ways to put money into waterproof / snow ready boots, so far the Climasalomon are actually reasonably priced and have good reviews for light duty snow readiness. Im hoping to test these later this year.
      Hopefully that helps !
      Cheers

    I've been looking at the light grey women's version of these, they come in smol enough sizes, and they fit really well. These shoes feel incredibly comfortable for hiking boots. I'll probably buy them, but... why these socks? Why merino socks?

    • @zacmagers
      @zacmagers  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Howdy there!
      100 percent agree with you, they are very comfortable for being somewhat a boot design. They were immediately comfortable on my feet from the first mile like I had already spent 50 miles breaking them in.
      In my novice experience with using merino wool socks thus far, two major areas I appreciate the material over cotton or synthetic is they are very soft and seem to move with your foot much better, and they tend to not stink. I’ve been actually really surprised at how odor resistant the darn tough socks are.
      The typical other reasons like dry fast, last longer, moisture wicking, thermoregulating, I haven’t used them long enough to say I’ve experienced all of that but they definitely are much softer and flexible and breathable. I also like the benefits of the mid weight, even more softness and cushion!
      Hope that helps :)

      @@zacmagers Thanks, haha, I get it now with the socks. 🙈I ended up buying a leather-lined version of the Lowa Renegade (not Goretex). It's super comfortable, and was on sale for 150 quid! The only thing I have to work out is how to stop the leather squeaking when I walk. 💀

      That’s a great looking boot and vibram soles…score! Like the Basil color way as well, very sharp looking. I hope they break in fast and stop talking back on the trail. Safe travels in your new gear :)

    Hello! Which breathable shoe would you recommend for hikes?

    • @zacmagers

      Howdy there!
      This is a good question and one I hope to answer for myself this year. For 2023 I used the Salomon’s, but for 2024 I plan on trying both the Altra Olympus 5, and Altra Lone Peak 8. I can’t actually give them a recommendation as I have not done any testing just yet…
      For those that put in hundreds of miles a season or year, it seems like Altra has fallen off the favorites list for some because of quality issues, however I hope to have a better experience as a more weekend warrior hiker. I’ll be trying out those two shoes over this summer and certainly return for a follow up video :)
      Cheers

    How much space should my thumb have?

    • @zacmagers
      @zacmagers  Před rokem

      Howdy! Well, Im not an expert on this ( if you are referencing the space from your big toe to the tip of the toe box ) but when I first put my boots on for a fit check, I had the space of the width of my big ol thumb. I wasn't feeling good about the fit and initially thought of sizing down.
      One thing to make sure of, of course, is to wear the type of socks you intend to use with the boots. If you still have too much wiggle room, Id suggest getting some Sole performance in there. When I switched out the soles for the yoursole.com/us/shop/footbeds/performance-medium?gclid=Cj0KCQjwk96lBhDHARIsAEKO4xbayaLV0vMziKDqy7Dg_lc4UVxP7UQXJ2ZSksXTtqmHbF6WBh9lGb4aAnJREALw_wcB this sucked up all the wiggle room, kept the boots from being too tight and added great additional support. Id recommend these Sole soles to anyone. Leave some extra space for them.
      Hope thats what you were referencing and answered your question!
      Cheers

      What size are those as mine looks bigger in a size 12?

    • @zacmagers
      @zacmagers  Před rokem

      Howdy. These are 9.5
      The sizing was odd for me on these boots. In shoes I wear a 9.5 or 10, however with these 9.5 boots I found they were almost a half size too big. After getting mid weight wool socks and performance soles, took care of the wiggle room right away.

    Imagine wearing waterproof lined boots in the heat and then complaining about it..
    Get a breathable pair for warm weather and a waterproof pair for the winter. Not rocket science..

      Absolutely would like to find some trusty trail / running shoes for summer. I’ve been keeping an eye out for something that has a vibram outsole, that doesn’t have every color in the rainbow in the design!
      Thanks for checking out the vid.
