Taken the S&W M&P 15-22 and the Savage FV-SR to the range to do some accuracy comparison on 5 different type of Ammo. The results were both good is not surprising.
Nice video and thanks for taking the time to do this. It gave a good general idea. Of course there could as you say be some that actually shoot the either gun better, and each gun will shoot ammo differently. The Mp actually did better than I expected being a semi. I can see it has a lot of potential with a better scope and different ammo. Thanks and keep up the great work.
Try larger shot groups. Nine would be a good starting point to reflect more consistent performance, especially for rim fire ammo. Three shot groups are notoriously unreliable for a true test. My Ruger 1022 is far more accurate out to 100+ yds than my M&P 1522 with most ammo brands. I have no idea why, but it seems inherently better at tight grouping. The M&P is much more fun to shoot though and is so much easier to operate than than the Ruger in terms of mag changes and bolt opening. (Why Ruger ever designed the rifle with that stupid little metal tab device for the bolt lock and then have consistently persisted with it for so many years is beyond me!) I imagine the Savage will consistently out perform your M&P with the right ammo as it is a bolt action free floated heavy barrel and will be better by design. Blow back semi-auto .22LR rifles waste a ton of energy just in the operation of cycling and the tolerances on the actions are obviously 'slacker' anyway. Having said that, the M&P, whilst not a target rifle, is pure fun to own and shoot and both your rifles will give excellent service doing different things. Enjoy them for the differences and don't try to compare them too closely!
Generally speaking bolts are more reliable for distance shooting, accuracy shooting, etc. Semi-autos are great for rapid fire, but precision fire is more of a bolt thing.
as a competition shooter and 3 time state runner up in the Ohio cardinal shoot i pride myself on accuracy. I own the Smith and Wesson 15-22 and can actually hold a 2 inch group at 150 yds with it.the savage held all advantages with a larger scope objective three more magnification settings and a better all around scope. ibwoilf also like to state that I don't believe both guns were zeroed with the ammo they shoot the best.your test had MANY holes in it but good vid
Ethan Owens I've decided to cave in and buy a S&W MP 15-22 because as much as I love dumping 500 rounds of 5.56 at the range I just can't stand spending the money. For a 100 yard target what would the best low budget accurate optic be? Thanks!
I've never shot JUST ONE group to show the performance of a rifle or any ammo. I've always shot at least FIVE groups, and each group has FIVE shots instead of THREE. You shot one three-shot group, and you think you might get lucky. Oh man.🙄

Well said!
The CCI MiniMag warrants further testing, as in each group, there were 2 rounds touching, or almost touching.
You shot the groups about 3 times faster with the MP-15-22. Good video
You should try CCI standard velocity. It's very accurate out of the 15-22. That group at 100 with the Savage was impressive.
Thanks for the recommendation, i'll give it try next range trip.
do you have a link to the 15-22

Well done!

Did you change trigger and what optic are you running..
I got a 3/8 inch group on my M&P 15-22 at 50 yard, using CCI SV.
YOU DIDNT SHOOT THE FEDERAL MATCH AMMO THAT WAS ON THE TABLE LOL
I also fish from a kayak.
10 round mags all over the place...must be in CA.
Oregon, plenty of 25 rounders at home
10 rounders are easier to shoot off the bench though.
This test on a windy day?
Nice vídeo man. Gradilations.

I have a bushmaster C22. Its accurate as hell at 100 yards.
Hmmm..
