  • OK, ladies! Here's what no one told us about pregnancy! This time around, I got my lovely friends Sharzad Kiadeh and Elizabeth Hunterton to join me in a casual conversation about pregnancy. Fun fact, they both have boys and I'm having a boy too!

No one ever told me how protective the father gets. My bf and I just found out a week ago, and it’s like all of his instincts are to protect me and the baby. Everyone just tells you about yourself being pregnant but no one really talks about how it effects your partner

Oh yeah, mine is always talking about guarding the baby with a shotgun and crazy shit lol He's exaggerating slightly, because that's how he describes things, but he's definitely very protective, he was already protective of me in the first place.

      sandy ezquivel -
I think you meant to comment that on the next comment down, but still, just wanted to check with you and make sure everything ended up okay?
I had a miscarriage, and to be honest cramping was not the first sign. I actually had spotting that may or may not have been a sign because people have spotting anyway, but I found out COMPLETELY out of the blue at my appointment. They did the little mini-sonogram they always do and couldn't find the heartbeat and I was instantly completely terrified so he sent to into the other room to get a real sonogram and the lady wouldn't tell me what was going on (I sort of don't blame her, the doctor's supposed to tell you I guess) but she seemed almost cold about it and it really bothered me and I was completely floored. I didn't hear the heartbeat myself so I knew something was definitely wrong and I was just praying that I was wrong, but I wasn't. One of the worst days of my life I think. So I basically had zero signs that was going to happen. But after I found out it was going to happen, then there were some early indications the actual miscarriage was starting which was this weird brown blood, not much, just a tiny tiny bit but it looked weird and smelled weird and that was probably the first thing that happened. The cramps didn't start until they gave me Cytotec to get the process going faster and I took it because I was so upset I just wanted it to be over because I knew it was going to be a miserable experience. And it was INCREDIBLY painful.
So my main point is, cramps are normal during early pregnancy, only worry if they're really painful. Like, if it's worse than period cramps, or if you get bleeding that's as heavy as a period, go to the doctor IMMEDIATELY. Because sometimes in rare occasions, if a miscarriage is starting but the baby is still alive, they can sometimes stop it. My mom had miscarriage symptoms and heavy bleeding when she was pregnant with me and they did an ultrasound and found out she miscarried my twin but not me, and they were able to keep me alive, and she had to be on bedrest the next 6-7 months or so.

Your friend Elizabeth is so right! My water broke at 24 weeks and I was on bed rest in high risk labor and delivery for 4 weeks, desperately trying to keep baby inside. Baby was born via emergency c section and was in the nicu for 3 months. Before that had happened, I had never heard anything about that. After it had happened, all kinds of people were like "oh that happened to my wife, my sister, etc". Why does no one talk about the scary parts of being pregnant?

Nausea doesn't always go away after the first trimester. 36 weeks pregnant tomorrow and it is terrible. The heartburn. Dear lord. Hip and pelvic pain towards the end of the last trimester. Hurts to walk, hurts to stand, hurts to sit, even hurts so bad to lay down that sleep doesn't sound satisfying. But thats also partly because you have to roll out of bed every hour in the middle of the night.

@@annak804 Yeah, but nobody tells you about how tired you might be. It scared my husband (and myself) that some little housework made me really exhausted. And I also needed to sleep alt and had to sleep like 2-3 hours during daytime. It feels weird, because some tiredness in the third trimester seems obvious - our belly's big and so on. But nobody tells you the first trimester might be even more exhausting and nobody knows what's going on, because your pregnacy doesn't show yet. People expect you'd be working and doing everything normally, which might not be possible. And yet that exhaustion is... NORMAL.

One thing no one told me the surprised me was how fast you lose muscle tone. I swear my booty was perky one day and sad the next. I have a history of chronic inflammatory response syndrome and so my doctor said I would most likely feel a lot better due to the suppression of the immune system during pregnancy. I've felt horrible most of my pregnancy, so I'm actually encouraged that could be an indication my health issues drastically improved before pregnancy and might not be as big of an issue as they once were.

All of my pain was gone and I wasn't constantly tired. I didnt even have morning sickness. Little bit of heartburn towards the end but overall my health was really good. Fast forward now to 3 months later...all of my issues from lupus is back but there is nothing I can do about it because I have a newborn to take care of. I am looking forward to my next pregnancy!!! I know a LOT of people that had the cerclage thing done. Usually there was a cause for my friends that had the 'incompetent cervix' which was that they had precancer removed from their cervix previously. I also had high-grade precancer removed after I miscarried in my first pregnancy. I'm now about 8 weeks into the second. So I'm praying this time it goes better. Just wanted to say that even though they didn't know about the incompetent cervix thing, it's relatively common.

I’m almost 23 weeks now and things are much better now but.... extreme constipation, vaginal spotting and even heavy bleeding due to a hemorrhage, nausea, being oh so tired, and the fear of miscarriage the first trimester. Not fun... was funny what you said, no one tells you so you’ll still get pregnant 😂.
