  • The Master Lock 140 is a wonderful example of what a lock manufacturer should avoid when designing a lock.

I am brand new to the lockpicking hobby. I only have the Dyno Kwick Pick tool (snake rake and tensioner). I went thru my step-dad's box of old locks and picked every single one of those except a Masterlock 150 and Masterlock 22... only because i don't yet have the tools i need. They are on order. I was shocked that I picked my first lock on my first attempt in less than 15 seconds. The 150 (like the 140) is just too narrow for the tensioner in the Dyno tool. I have it in my truck console just waiting for the Covert FNG set so i can have another whack at it lol

Very cool demonstration at how easily these can be bypassed. Fast to pick as well. We are starting to see Master Lock flood our major hardware stores here and they are pushing out Lockwood to do it. Very sad indeed to see when I go to the padlock section and see people buying the Master Lock just based on look. Saying this looks like it is tough and secure. They get sucked into the marketing on the package and don't even read the packing to see that there are only four pins in most of the locks. Thanks for this video, cheers

It's disappointing to hear that Lockwood is getting pushed out by Master Lock. I think it's fair to say that, compared to most other countries, the quality of generally available locks in the US is rather low and there are no standards by which these products are objectively held. There are, of course, excellent locks to be had but they aren't as easy to acquire and often consumers don't understand what justifies the price increase over the "popular" brands. I hope the trend isn't towards a decrease in quality elsewhere. In the meantime, all we can do as enthusiasts is try to educate the end user. Thanks for the comment, cheers!

@@Technosavage So true. Locks have basically doubled in price in five years since i started. Master Lock is really expensive here, minimum price is around $30 for a no3 just crazy. Quality has dropped of because Assa Abloy brought out so many lock manufactures and started to close factory's in countries that had a long lock manufacturing history, such as Lockwood here. A lot of well know high tolerance brands are now being manufactured in china. Thus we are starting to see plastic enter lock bibles and cores now. Very disappointing. Thats why people are after locks before Assa started their massive takeovers

Just buy some Zip Ties. At least you cant pick those open, and will take longer to get through.

Zip ties are a daily part of my job. My box cutter will eliminate that barrier quicker than TechnoSavage can dig out his comb pick. Sad but true

@@justacountryboy2346 Given you can open a dozen masterlocks in less than 1s each, you arent going to do the same with zip ties. Masterlocks are that bad.

Zip ties on the other hand? Hand to pocket, thumb to retractor, blade to Zip tie... done
