both of them are fuel filters. The one under the cab is a classic fuel filter, the one you changed has the water in fuel sensor and primer pump in case you ran out of fuel. Both should be changed periodically.

Done these filters a fair bit , to make your life easy . Advisable to change the filter when you have at least more than a 1/4 tank diesel in the tank , makes it easier to bleed . Also best to pre fill the new filter before installing, makes bleeding easier .
