The prime pump on the water separator works well enough to avoid the hardship and spilled fuel of trying to pre-fill the secondary filter. Just pump until firm then let the air out of the bleeder and close. Pump until firm, let the air out and close. Repeat until a little fuel comes out of bleeder. Never took me more than 3 cycles. And ALWAYS wear gloves. Certain additives in oils/fuels and hydraulic oils will absorb into your skin and NEVER leave! I am lucky to have only lost feeling and softness in my fingertips. I know an old retired machinist that can no longer close his hands.
