Who am I?
Expert singing teacher, specialising in teaching children and young adults in singing and musical theatre. She has worked with the likes of The Saturdays for MTV, on shows such as Just the Two of Us for the BBC and many more. Throughout her years of teaching she has judged in many competitions, judging Lucy Spraggan, George Samson, amongst others who have gone onto succeed in the business.
I am the founder of Vocaltutor, (founded 2003) the UK’s largest vocal and singing tuition network and now The New Foundry Studios which opened in 2013.
I have worked with BBCTV on Just the Two of Us, with many celebrities including Natasha Hamilton of Atomic Kitten, plus has worked for ITV on many children’s TV programmes including The Worst Witch, as their vocal coach.

Fun fact about this performance: they were not supposed to sing that night, but Megan couldn't perform, I think she was sick, so they did it for her, all rehearse did in just a few minutes

Normani and Lauren were my favorites from this performance with their smooth and sultry vocals. Dinah was very beautiful with the runs too and Ally's belting was very strong. Camila did her thang with the first chorus.
Camila said something like "hooove you", because she was singing, initially, "hold you", but she realized she was singing the wrong lyrics and tried to change to "love you", so that's why the odd word came in. It's, basically, a fusion of "hold" and "love". 😂

And the Stay and the American Girl covers too! And Ex and Ohs. The first time I heard their Stay cover their harmony gave me goosebumps.
i think one of their best performances vocally is "Worth it/Independent Woman/We are Family" also at the Billboard Woman in Music, but the 2015's edition
they worked A LOT on harmonies, and all of the girls has adlibs at the end!

Ally truly is an amazing vocalist.
They all were very emotional in this performance. Normani & Camila messed with the lyrics, Lauren was on the verge of tears. Ally is the tinny one and Dinah is the first on the right. Could you please react to their very first performance as a group? "Impossible" at the judges house.
It’s been a while so correct me if I’m wrong, but I think this performance was kind of hastily put together for some reason, like they weren’t even supposed to perform that night or something? Anyway, that’s why the nerves and Camila’s lyric mash up with “hove” I think lol but they still sounded great. Great reaction!
P.S. Normani is pronounced like Armani with more emphasis on the “ma” :)

I’m glad you mentioned the beginning of the girls overpowering each other in harmony bc that’s always been a problem they had when harmonizing. However they were individually each amazing with my favorites in this were Normani, Lauren and ally.

Here are the members :
Dinah Jane: The one on the right, she's the youngest and the tallest. she has the most powerful voice in the group with a natural deep tone similar to Beyoncé and Mariah along with a very strong vocal agility and an angelic head voice and her runs are crazy good.
Ally Brooke: The one between Camila and Normani, her and Dinah are the best vocalists among the girls. she has a musical theater voice that can hit high notes and belt effortlessly
and can go up to C6 and F#5 sometimes.
Lauren Jauregui: She has a very mature, raspy, and rich timber which makes her voice really unique and strong especially in the lower register similar to Amy Whinehouse, she's able to support G#3s consistently.
Normani Kordei: She has the widest range in the group and a very soft tone and she's the best when it comes to vocal control and I think she's the only one that can hit an EB7 whistle note.
Btw, they practiced this at the last minute, the original performer as supposed to be Meghan Trainor but something went wrong with her voice so they had to replace her.

Actually I believe that Ally is able to hit a G#6 and she was classically trained. :)

Santi Caballero I think ally/Lauren/ Camila have the most control. Normani was the least consistent vocally and I’ve been a harmonized since xfactor.
@@tatum635 Normani started out as the weakest singer (and had some hilarious off pitch moments) but she worked on it a lot and has improved tremendously. Lauren on the other hand started out as one of the best (along with Dinah) but over the years strained her voice too much and lost a lot of her range.

I wish they made their career harmonizing, they sound awesome. In 90% of their songs they were taking turns to sing solo parts with no harmonies at all ☹️ and when you hear some harmonies recorded it was Camila alone 🤷🏻♂️

Pity they weren't given the opportunity to do more of this kind of thing, rather than all that sexual stuff they were made to do at 15 and 16 years of age. The creepy label should be ashamed of what they did to these girls. They are all so talented and deserved better.

not their best performance: notmani got the lyrics wrong in the begging and then camila at the end and lauren seemed nervous and was taking very sharp breathes but still good! i recommend their performance of worth it and destiny’s child cover at the women in music awards!!

Towards the end they weren’t mean to say ‘im gonna hold you’ but the others forgot and said ‘im gonna love you’ again that’s why Camila said Hove cause she was saying hold but realised they said love so changed it

Tbh I think apart from camila they have similar voices, meaning they all have soulful, soft, calm voices where camila’s was sharper and more pop sounding thats why I think they harmonized better as 4 members cuz their voices were similar, where camila’s stood out, at least to me, of course there were moments where it was perfect but I’m talking general

Ooooh for Boyband day (that's gonna be legit) if you don't have BSB I will cry - they really great live (I know lately not as much with Brian). Also BTS - though I still suspect they use prerecorded vocals a lot.
This performance really does show they have the chops and harmonies when its all stripped back. I feel they could have dominated with a sound like this over dance routines. They are all good vocalists (which is rare-ish in girl groups) and I just feel their record label sold them down the river. Again just my humble opinion. I know people get a bit touchy with anything that sounds negative.
Speaking of Meghan Trainor, I really think you should check out the deluxe edition of her latest album Treat Myself. It came out last week. I don’t know why the internet is so mean to her. She’s so far from that “All About That Bass” girl. In this album she’s truly matured evolved as an artist. It’s so different from her previous work. I highly recommend giving her a shot! You won’t be disappointed. 💙
