  • This video shows almost everything with a big build like this and that's why its so long. The first 85% takes about a week and then the last 15% seems to take forever. They need the main platforms up as the machine arrives but hold off on the handrails until they get the other machinery up on the platforms. Then its handrails, a catwalk in between the two platforms and then sometimes stairs. A big thank you to Mike Howe for helping me out with the onsite install!!
    I used .o45 dualshield for all the heavy welding but then i swap over to the mp210 with .o25 hardwire for the handrail material.

      I dont want to be a critic but why dont You use a big angle grinder 230 mm for cutting rectangular tubes ? It goes verry fast and with practice verry precise. I bet you have 230 V supply in your shop so if in US such equipment isnt on shelf order over seas ,check out bosch profesional JH range. Oh and love the vids, You provide secrets of the trade that are more than useful

      in europe we use only 230mm, the small 125mm is for flap disc 's....

    • @MrKotBonifacy
      @MrKotBonifacy Před 5 lety +2

      @@landcruisertoy9667 , strictly speaking in Europe we use 115 mm AND 125 mm, AND 150 mm, AND 180 mm, AND 230 mm discs for hand-held angle grinders (that would be approx. 4.5", 5", 6", 7" and 9"). Granted, some sizes are more popular than others - for instance, 115 is kinda relegated into hobbyists market, and the "regular size" is 125 mm. 150 mm is kinda rarity (I happen to own one, and getting discs is pain in the butt). Then there's 180 mm and 230 mm discs/ grinders - in my opinion grinders for 180 mm discs are not that much smaller than ones for 230 mm discs, so again, as in 115 vs 125 case, 230 mm discs wins (in terms od popularity) .
      BUT! - that 230 mm is unwieldy beast, and unless you have hands like gorilla or wrestler it is hard to use. And when you accidently kink the disc and it jams - then sprained wrist is like a grace of Lord (or the fate for the m non-believers - people got killed by shrapnels from fragmented 230 mm discs). So unless you really need that deep cut (or far reach), the smaller grinder, one that is "just big enough" is beter solution. And to cut that 10 mm / ⅜ " (or so) of that tubing walls 150 mm disc is more than enough. Heck, you could cut them even with 115 mm discs, albeit much slower (grinder power rating issue), and you'd use many more discs.
      By far the 125 mm is the most common - no, wait, it is THE most common size used - and not only for flap discs. You have thin, medium and thick cut-off wheels (from 1 mm to 3,5 mm), thicker side-grinding discs (typically 5 and 8 mm thick), diamond discc (all kind of them), some speciality discs for removing mill scale, for removing rust and loose paint ("octopus" discs), fibre sanding discs (used with rubber backing plate) for quick wood sanding, all kind of wire brushes, and so on - you name it. (There are even sponge discs for polishing car body - only to be used with grinders with regulated speed, of course).
      What does make me wonder here though, is why not use plasma cutter? It would do the job in a fraction of time, and much cheaper. And quieter - and NOT breathing in all that dust from desintegrating discs is also beneficial to one's health. (Yeah, yeah, I know - respiratory track protection gears - everybody LOVES them, they make breathing so much easier, and that added overall convenience and work comfort... Yes, I agree 167% here...)
      The dross formation in plasma cutting is minimal, quick lick with a small grinder would take care of it (or even just few blows with a light hammmer - those things are going to be welded either by stick or dual shield anyway, so I see no problem here).

I’m always asked why don’t you use the saw or the torch, I can only say that it is so much faster with the grinder. Another great build, they can’t say that it’s not up to code, I think if the building blew away, your mezzanine would still be there. Love the square tube hand rail too, so much easier to work with. • @RamsesTorresLifevantageIndDist

    Hey JD very impressed by the skill, but do you have much kick back from using the grinder that way? Sparks shoot away from you but most grinder accidents and near misses I've seen have been using it that way. Is the Motabo different, or is it a superhuman grip?

    • @jdbrewer6638

      Ramses Torres - LFVN the metabo is different... they have a great video on their website demonstrating how their grinders have a clutch to keep from kicking back. I actually have a very relaxed grip... I only "steer" the metabo and let the grinder do the work.

      JD Brewer was meaning to cut the box and beams. Wouldent have thought it cost effective to cut with the slit discs or torch . Carnt you buy it in cut to size. Hear in the UK it's quit cheep to buy in cut to length

    Seems like a 12" X 36" X 1/4" plate welded to the top of your saw-horses might be worth time and material expense as it would give you wider landing zone..... Just a thought. And thanks for showing your audience that this is true music that will long outlast Rap. But please don't divulge this was (Oh, my God!!!) - Opera!

    you should kill the music and just let the sound of the tools come through, Dirista style.
