      ColossalCrib, Same here, I went to welding school 13 years ago, TIG welded bronze for a few years, then welded on large scale structural for a little while, and have fabricated and welded a lot of smaller projects on my own. After all that I still feel like a rookie, especially watching Jody's videos, so much to learn still!!

I do have welding equipment at my shop, but really admire someone that makes it look as easy as you do, and is not afraid to share the knowledge. I will definitely subscribe and watch your videos to hone my skills. Drop by my channel and see if any of the insider how-to machine shop videos I have posted can benefit you in any way. Thanks. Jody, during a recent equipment install I noticed our field guy cutting 1 3/4" bar grating with a circular saw. He was cutting 36" wide grating in about 30 seconds with almost no sparks and very little burr. The blade was a special 8" carbide tipped. He cut and installed two semi flat bed loads of grating and used 3 or 4 blades. I'll contact him and get the blade info and reply to this post. The cuts were straight and square. Very nice!

    • @noncched6839
      @noncched6839 Před 7 lety

      Chuck Castiglione we also use that in the oil field. One of the main benefits is when your cutting galvanized there is barely any fumes. One of the down falls is that the material has to supported really well.

    Hey Jody
    I am a Stainless steel sheet metal worker, from Denmark, we use a welding technique that we call ArgonArk or tandem Tig welding,, to weld x-ray welds on sheet metal, you are to guys both with at TIG Torche and weld from both sides, one with filler rod and one with out.
    how it works is, that the guy on the bagside is shields and pulls the rod through the material, is that a method, that is used in the USA, i have no idea, have never seen a welding video with it. could be fun to see, Thanks

    they would have to wear hard hats,reflective vests,steel toed boots and use a cherry picker whilst wearing a fall arrester when they got up above ground level.
    welding screens,fire extinguishers all over the place and no-one not "on the job" allowed anywhere near it.
    would it not be an idea to bolt it together when they got to the site due to sparks and dust in the air ?.

The unions should be protecting these professionals from this kind of thing. Put their foot down and make the organization properly sterilize after the fact. I get safety and standards and all of it but this kind of fabrication is dirty work. both grinding dust and human filth is to be expected. I'm really appalled.
