This group has 2 amazing basses. Chance has a velvety voice. Tim has a 6 octave range, and his low notes can only be heard by elephants unless you have earphones. Because they have 2 deep basses, and 2 amazing tenors, and an award winning beat boxer, this group is peerless.

This song was a great initiation to the HF world and you’ve just scratched the surface. All of us Home Fries have our favorites so you can pick any of their covers, collaborations, or originals as you like and you will never be disappointed. They cover multiple genres. Each member has their own unique talents. Thank you for a great reaction. Welcome.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Home Free!!! This doesn’t even scratch the surface of what they can do. They are absolutely amazing. Tim- the bass-is not only a freakish bass is also an incredible tenor. The guy you called the lead is their high tenor Austin Brown from Tifton, Georgia. Tim is from Texas. Rob (beard guy) another amazing tenor from Minnesota. The best boxer. Adam Rupp, founded the group with his brother Chris Rupp, from Minnesota also. Chris left the group to pursue a solo career. (His videos are great too.) Adam Chance took Chris’s place. He is called Chance, so there will not be any confusion between the two Adams. Chance, like Tim, has an amazing range. You’ve only begun. Have fun, I’m subscribing to come along for the ride. 👍🏼💜

Not only does Tim have that 5 octave range, Chance (fellow in the back with hat and vest) has a 4 octave range. You have two really wonderful tenors in Rob (glasses and beard) and Austin (young fellow singing lead here) and with Adam, a beat boxer who, even after all these years, I'm still wondering where he keeps his batteries. Give Can't Stop the Feeling, Meet in the Middle, Catch Me if You Can and Do You Hear What I Hear a try. For starters. LOL Thank you! ^_^

Love these guys. They are all so amazingly talented. They don't have a designated lead, they all take the lead, depending on who they think will sound the best on a song they are doing. Everyone gets their chance, except the beat boxer. He can sing, too, but he's not comfortable about doing so. He will however; sing when there is a 5 part harmony involved. Any song they do, they put their own spin on it. They do however; have many originals to choose from. Their latest album called, Dive Bar Saints is some of the best work they've done. There are 12 tacks of which 10 that are originals. Tim, the bass, wrote 2, and Austin, the lead in this video wrote 2. The others were written from some very powerful song writers out of Nashville. Their quarantine video's are both funny and very creative. I just subscribed, because I loved your reaction. I would love to see you do their version of "In The Blood"

The didgeridoo sound and some of the background bass sounds came from the guy beside the beatboxer in the back. His name is Chance, the bass is Tim, the lead singer is Austin, the big bearded guy is Rob and the beatboxer is Adam. All sounds were vocal, even the harmonica. Crazy huh? I love Home Free.

I guess it's a cultural thing, but most of the reactors I've watched with this song think that Adam Chance is emulating a digery doo, when in fact the instrument emulated is called a jaw harp. It's a brass reed set in an ankh shaped loop and played against the teeth. The two instruments are remarkably similar in their sound, but the jaw harp requires a human skull to resonate. At least you didn't mistake the alligator for a crocodile as many others do.

There's a video out of Tim Faust destroying a speaker with a low note that you might like to watch...

If you like low notes you’ve got to react to Misty Mountain by Peter Hollens feat Tim Foust you’ll love it.

Avi Kaplan sings bass for Pentatonix. Tim Foust sings bass for Home Free as does Chance. Tim is capable of hitting a G1 bass note and sustain it for an extended amount of time.

You should hear them do this one in concert. :-)

You should listen to their drum solo

Should have said "ultra smooth and very complex harmony."

Judging by your comment, “God, that is low,” you’re the first person I remember noticing that he went even lower on the repeated line.

After Tim's solo, that is actually Chance that comes in on the lower bassline.

Brirend, how can you tell? At that range and with the other voices, I can’t recognize whose voice it is. And I know he’s also a bass, but I didn’t know Chance could go that low.

    • @Brirend

Different vocal texture, Tim's bass is like a force of nature, kind of seismic but, Chance's bass is more subtle like a pipe organ in a church. If you want a good example of Chance's background bassline, listen to Mayday. While Tim is singing lead tenor, Chance is carrying the bassline.

Brirend, I have seen their cover of “Mayday,” and Chance also has his own solo where he climbs down into the basement. When there’s little else going on, I can hear nuances in the voices, like when Avi Kaplan joined Home Free for “Ring of Fire,” which may have been before Chance joined the group. But here with all of them harmonizing, I just can’t tell.

I was just thinking this. I've seen a ton of reactions to this song and no one notices the lowest note. She's got to be the first. So happy it's finally been heard!
