  • Michael Evanko travels to the Huntsdale State Fish Hatchery located in Carlisle, Pennsylvania to help PA Fish & Boat Commission employees spawn Keystone Select Trout. This is a great learning video for young and old to understand the process that the state of Pennsylvania uses to spawn their hatchery trout. Also, check out the "blue trout" shown near the end of the video. This video was shot on July 18, 2017.

    Mike, this is one of the most amazing CZcams videos I have ever seen. You really should get an award of some kind for this. Overall, you have one of the best fishing channels out there, but this is stand out stuff. Thank you.

    Really great video Angler, very interesting and informative. I was impressed on how gentle the workers were with the fish. And good on the State of PA for supporting this program. I wish California would use funds from the now $50 license fee to do something similar rather than stealing those funds and not giving back to the sport fishermen. Sorry for the rant Mike but I may be a neighbor pretty soon.

    I live along the Breeches in Boiling Springs. Man, the creeks took a huge hit this year with covid but it's starting to calm down as people go back to work. Thanks for showing this I actually never saw inside this hatchery.

    I am really really surprised too some of the answers you got for these guys favorite streams..knowing exactly where they are n that they were talking my home waters..especially lost creek was just over the mountain from where i grew up in Beaver Springs Pa...n I know a stream where those blue trout occur naturally...only ever caught 3..but by the numbers...that's a big number.. N 2 were more a coal black with blue irradiance most stunning brown trout I've ever seen! Awesome video!!!

    Another excellent and informative video...thanks, Mike! I must admit, although it is always a hoot to catch wild/native/naturalized fish, I have nothing against catching or targeting those "hatchery giants" as I call them. They can be challenging in their own way and they remain the largest trout That I have personally caught. Bravo to PA Fish Commission as well.

      Thanks for the comment Jim! I enjoy catching stocked fish too! The hold-overs are just as challenging as a stream bred fish.

      I agree. Holdover/naturalized fish can be really tough customers, especially if they are pressured.

    Any info on the Tiger trout? Caught one out of Harvey's select waters earlier this season. Hooked only my second palomino of my life last week out of the South Branch tunkhannock creek. Love these PA select streams.

      SOFTAIL X didn't get any info since they aren't an "officially" raised trout.

    We are looking to buy fertilized tilapia,salmon,trout,sturgeon eggs. How does the process work, and would you be able to ship it to California?

    • @WoolyBugged
      @WoolyBugged  Před 2 lety

      This is a fish stocking facility for sport. You'll have to call your local fish egg wholesaler for fertilized eggs.

    It's a shame our PFBC does not spend as much time and money on the protection and assistance of Pa's Wild Trout Waters as they do the Trout Put and Take system. The more we introduce our streams and rivers with these farm raised mutants, we decrease the chance for wild fish to survive, spawn and even flourish in Pa waters.
