This is my new favourite youtube channel! I'm a graduate mechanical engineer and looking to get in to property development doing as much myself as possible. Best believe I'll be watching every one of your videos over the next few days. Thanks in advance for the help!

Did exactly this a year ago. Living in a conservation area we all have matching 100yr old doors. Mine was absolutely knackered. Trimmed by the previous owner it was now more wedge shaped then rectangle!
I bought a firedoor blank as you suggested, used all the original trim from the old door, routered a panelled door on the inside and added a new door frame.
    Turned out an absolute treat.

Nice job! Just thought I'd mention to anyone reading, whilst Jerry has made a nice job of this door, to compare the prices of this and a solid Meranti joinery made door isn't really a fair comparison. It's a cost saving alternative to having a bespoke hardwood product, not really a replacement. The work that goes into setting out, cutting the profiles, cutting the wedged mortice and tenons etc is a real skill and takes years to learn and the end result reflects that. I find more and more people are assuming that traditionally made joinery products are becoming redundant now that it is possible to get a similar looking result as a DIY'er. Just mentioning this as quite often people see content like this and think us tradespeople are trying to rob them. The timber alone in the door the joiner quoted for will cost them more than this project. Great channel though Jerry, really enjoying the vids.

Yes, thanks for clarifying. The guy that gave me the quote for the door is a true craftsman and meranti is a more expensive wood as it’s a hardwood. I actually think, for a Northern European location, such as uk, redwood performs just fine, but it’s the work that goes into the joints, as you mention, on a bespoke door to stop the gaps opening up that takes the time. My solution is a poor man’s alternative. I should have made this clearer in the video, and that his price included labour, whereas mine is just materials. The main reason I did not go with his very reasonable quote is because, if you see in the video, his lead time was 6 months, which was a dealbreaker for me. I couldn’t find anyone else to do it, so this was my backup option .

Music is annoying and distracting. Especially since when you speak you semi whisper. The video, on the other hand, is awesome and the project is fantastic! Thank you 😊

Thanks for the feedback. I’m trying to get the balance right but it’s hard. For some of the bits… it just feels like some music is the right thing to do. I’ll try to get the volume right next time.

I would err on the side of the music volume being too kow. I also would not have any music while you are speaking. Use diy television shows as a guide. Zero music while talking. They only have music during a montage or when they speed up the monotonous parts etc. Keep in mind, people came to see your project, not hear music. So, if there isnt enough music, they can forgive that. If they can't hear you explain the topic that attracted them in the first place, that's a different story.
