    I love those small simple tank engines, I personally think smaller engines have more personality than the bigger engines in my opinion.

      @@SamsTrains I'm hoping you'll review those programmes in your next "news" posting! I too found it fascinating although, unlike DaveClass47 (sorry Dave) I thought that Simon, or Hornby anyway, came across as a bit arrogant. Discuss :-).

      @jonathankelly7430 Před 5 lety

      @@Robutube1 Mabye he was a bit arrogant, but that's the world of business I suppose. Hornby have to make their money too, and in my opinion it was a dirty move from rails to put all their large signs right above the hornby stand at the model railway show, they knew what they were doing but then they get annoyed when hornby makes a terrier?

    • @Robutube1
      @Robutube1 Před 5 lety

      @@jonathankelly7430 You could be right about it just being business Jonathan and I agree with you about the Rails of Sheffield signage too. I did however think it odd that Hornby's launch product selection looked petty rather than coincidental (but who knows how these things are edited by the programme makers?) and alienating towards their own customers. Nevertheless, the biggest orders then came from those same customers so it seems likely there was game playing on both sides. I just wish they'd made the series longer; perhaps they'll revisit to see how things are going in a year or two :-).

    Hello, Sam!
    I've been watching your videos for a little over a year now, and I just wanted to thank you for getting me back into the model railway hobby! I had them when I was younger, and eventually moved on to other things, but seeing your reviews has shown me what beautiful locos and rolling stock are available on the market, and have given me the bug to start again! I chose this video in particular to comment on because I just received my own Hornby Terrier in the mail today!
    Thanks again!

    Hi Sam, more trivia. The "brass" fittings on the sides of the boiler are the water feed "Clack" valves, so named because of the clacking noise they made in operation. The ones on the sides of the smokebox are lubricators. Good review, I agree with you. Best regards, Alan.

    Excellent review. This has made me very tempted to purchase one myself. However, the assembly is where Rails might have Hornby here. Always tense when two companies make the same model. Hornby have flexed their production muscles with how fast this has been released, but at the cost of certain areas you've highlighted.

    Well I was going back to modelling an OO end-to-end layout, but I was slightly upset when I read about the 3-pole motor.

    Good Evening Sam,
    The brand new retooled Hornby A1X Terrier is an excellent model despite some of the detail is made of plastic, the running performance is superb, despite being fast at half speed, I did tell you long time ago, the Terriers are quite speedy Tank Engines back on the LBSCR while hauling commuter trains, the Terrier looks like she's travelling at around 40 miles per hour.
    I can see 6 Southern Region Tank Engines in the sidings.
    Talking of Tank Engines, yesterday I went to the Spring Steam Gala on the Severn Valley Railway, it was brilliant seeing a lot of Tank Engines running and a few Tender Engines, most of them are Great Western and the 2, a LNWR Coal Tank No.1054 from the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway and the Severn Valley Railway's recently overhauled, BR Standard 4 4-6-0 No.75069.
    While I was in Kidderminster, I treated myself to a new model steam locomotive, it's not a British one, it's a German DB 2-8-2T Class Steam Locomotive made by Marklin, Marklin is a model railway company in Germany, it's a interesting model.
    Now back to your brand new Hornby Terrier, again it's a excellent model, I'm planning on getting 2 Terriers, No.655 Stepney in LBSCR Improved Green Livery and No.2662 Martello in Southern Railway Olive Green Livery, I haven't pre-ordered them yet.
    I give your video as always.

  • @valentinoalvarezsosa69

    An amazing review, Sam. Fenchurch the Terrier was a very nice locomotive, with good detailing, a powerfull engine, and its small design was very attractive too. However, there are some areas that it could be better, like the fact that is very speed at the control, (but I think its due to the small gearing on the chasis, since that also happened with the Midland 1F) and especially the quality, since its a bit disapointing that you have to fix parts of a new in box model. But other than that, it is still a beautifull model, even if its not perfect, it is incredible how much they improved it, and it was worth the wait in my opinion. Anyways, hope you have a good day, and I will see you later.

    I wasn’t at all interested in these until I picked up the 2662 Southern terrier. I’m actually really impressed with its performance, I did have a minor issue as you did with one of the pickups, but as you mentioned I got curious about the other pre-grouping liveries and I have a LSWR example coming in the post!

      @@SamsTrains well southern 2662 has finally arrived . Hornby have definitely dropped the ball yet again with quality control. Broken cab steps, ugly scratches on the running board and what the really annoying thing is the missing coupling hook! Also the guard irons are wrong on Hornby’s new terrier whilst dapol Dapols are correct. The old Dapol/Hornby Terrier had a number of problems, but the obvious one was that the body sat too high on the body and the buffers were also too high relative to the running plate. I was part-way through doing a fix-up of the old terrier as well as converting it to an Isle-of-Wight example with the extended bunker when this model was announced and subsequently released. So that is that for the conversion. The mechanism will go under a narrow-gauge O-16.5 loco and the body will probably get junked.

    Four bogie coaches is a bit more than prototypical for a Terrier, in preservation if nothing else.
    At the K&ESR (which have owned and run the majority of preserved Terriers), they usually only haul the "vintage train", a rake of five coaches of different pre-Big 4 companies, all but one being four-wheel; or a rake of two MK1 coaches. A driver told me that the Wealden Pullman, currently a 4-coach rake, is too heavy for a Terrier, but two of those vehicles are Pullman cars which are a very heavy wooden construction and a third is Maunsell.
