Stepney is 146 today! Following on from this video talking about my Thomas customs: • Horrible Thomas Customs This one takes a look at the various modifications I've done to Hornby old tooling Terriers over the years, hopefully giving inspiration and dos and don'ts for anyone wishing to do something similar. Includes a model I haven't shared before, but one you'll see again.

I was today years old when I found out I share a birthday with Stepney (technically, Steps is on the 21st but timezones means it's the 22nd in NZ)! Very neat.

When he said we’ll see more of this model in the future for the 2-4-0 terrier, I hope so! It’s such a good model. I would buy it if I had the money

Bodiam as 32670 was my first terrier as well. I got it, a 2721 Pannier, and a 14xx(and some GWR Brown/Cream coaches and various wagons) for Christmas one year. My first non Thomas or Harry Potter UK OO Gauge models. I am a yank and they came from Hattons.
Nice models mate. I've tried my hand at Terriers in Lego, initially making Fenchurch but had to settle for LSWR livery due to me stuggling with the older build. I wanna try again with Fenchurch just because Terriers are so nice looking. Don't worry, Fenchurch is 80% complete as of March 2023. And in April they've been joined by Boxhill.
Also really like the Thomas- style peaceful covers of the Wii shop and Able sisters themes. It adds a very pleasant atmosphere to your video.
Stepney and Thomas are both said to be from the LB&SCR; I wonder if Thomas met Stepney in pre grouping days. I like the idea of a Railway Series style story where Thomas visits the Bluebell Railway (at the time Diesel - Class 08 number 13236) was working there. Interesting that Diesel was the diesel that broke the Bluebell's steam only rule🙂
Bluebell is a cute little loco that reminds me of Thomas!

I had no idea Stepney's Birthday fell on the Winter Solstice! I really enjoyed your showcase of your terriers. I be using some of these tips once I but a few scale model terriers. The part where you mentioned how the real terriers had toolboxes and carried equipment on the sidetanks! That really gives me some inspiration!
This will be a nice treat. Am quarantined as of now and I’m very bored. Can’t wait for the premiere!

Stepney (and just Terriers in general) is my favourite tank engine ever, and I love seeing all your different models of both him and the other Terriers that you’ve made throughout the years! I can’t wait to see what other Terrier models you make next, especially your own preserved Stepney! :D
(P.S I read in someone’s Twitter post they made about their own customised preserved Stepney that there is a website where you can get Stepney’s name decals, but I unfortunately can’t remember the name of it right now XD)

My first terrier was also an inacurate model of Bodiam as BR 32670. I got it along with a Hornby 14xx and 2721 Pannier Tank. I also bought an old Dapol model of Stepney on UK Ebay sometime around 2006 or so. Still have them both in storage somewhere with all of My American H0 models, including a few other 00 models(Smokey Joe, Hogwarts Castle, a GWR Manor Class, a Bachmann 57xx, Bachmann 08, Thomas, Duck, Percy, and James)

I own both the old dapol terrier and the new hornby tooling terrier. It is a pity they never released a as preserved Stepney as I also want one as well.

the price gap between the dapol tooling and the 2020 hornby tooling is still frustratingly small.
not sure why, the dapol austerities are regularly around £30 but the terriers are around £45-50, and when the newer tooling is as little as £75 brand new,, it hardly seems worth it. shame really because i really want some of the simpler tooling for projects... and i'm cheap

Nice work making a 2-4-0 tank terrier it be nice if a Hornby do more LBSCR terriers hunting down more Leadenhall ‘s has been a chore but worth it when I send them off to TMC the hard part is deciding on what names

It might be interesting to know that there's some 3rd party groups who have done some clever things with the old Dapol chassis; one of those groups make replacement body shells that turn Terriers into Great Eastern Railway Class C72's, R24's and S56's (aka LNER class J68, J67 and J69, respectively).
For transfers try Frontline hobbies. I saw a rack full of them in store like 4 months ago but I have not returned due to having the cough cough

I think you can print the pictures of stepneys sides and print it on transfer paper
Speaking of the new terriers, im trying to get a new terrier in Weston Clevedon & Portishead Railway Green , specifically No.4 which was Stepneys older brother, it was originally No.53 'Ashtead'
edit: i couldn't get it because it was £110 and i only had £102, so i got a BR black early lettering terrier for £90

You could just reprint the name and number with decal paper and then you can have decals for both stepneys

What did you use to fill in the holes for the Westinghouse Brake Pump? I'm looking to do the same and fully A1xify my Whitechapel model but try not to butcher the sandboxes.
I used Milliput to cover the gaps, which when dried is able to be sanded down.
Have you tried contacting Blackham Transfers or even Berry Hill Works? Even if they dont have the transfers they might point you in the right direction?
Talk to K4 graphics or circus city decals I believe they do custom decals by commission.

You could go to trainz pick the sodor workshops stepney 1960s, and print the image file that has the lettering and number.
Thanks for the suggestion. I gave reference images for that model so I did use the original file for this iirc. Could use printing in a higher quality though.
@@Terrier55Stepney tracing into a vector is also an option, maybe even commissioning someone if you're not confident in tracing yourself
Terriers are my favourite engines but I have none. I only have an 0-4-0 pug and sn 0-4-0 Class D.

How do you remove the smoke box door on these guys?
The whole front piece can be loosed with a craft knife carefully and pried until the glue gives way. May take some patience, but some come off easily.
