  • In this video, you will see LED lightbulbs that will replace metal halide lightbulbs with only a fraction of the heat output.

    Thank you Dr. Novak. Now I understand why they push the LED's at the auto parts stores! More turnaround!

    I like those light alternatives, one of the drawbacks I see is the difficulty to aet them up, they are definitely less convenient than branded fixtures, but if you are on a budget I guess they are still very worth it.

      Actually, to be honest with you since I've used them for 30-years is that they're quite easy to set up not as hard as you think.

    Dr. Novak what about Flood Lights. Let's say I have a 6500k 6000 lumen led flood light would it work or do I need the actual bulb light.

      You can either go on Amazon and they sell light fixtures for growing plants. Or you can on Google and type in "plant growing halogen light fixtures," and you will come up with a plethora of options.

    Hey ❓ 4 U
    You know anyone who's implemented the plenum under gravel filter for a large African cichlid tank?

    • @anoxicfiltrationplenums
      @anoxicfiltrationplenums  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Yes, in fact, in one of my older videos, I show a guy who uses an anoxic filter in a sump plus a Plenum for his African Cichlid tank he lives in Africa.

      @@anoxicfiltrationplenums nice 👍
      So I set up a 90g a few months ago
      ( my first under gravel filter + my first plenum )
      I put a weak pump on it , & kitty litter
      ( I have now switched all 6 of my tanks now - this is the only one I did Not use an air stone )
      And my water has been very stable, I also put a large hang on the back & a small canister - just for the sake of Overafilteration :)
      In fact all my tanks are doing very well now 👍 I even combined FatherFish's method and this one, in my Ram tank and so far so good 🙌
      I will look for that video you mentioned :)
      ( I have also been slowly spreading this method - to my fellow aquarists 👍)

    i wondered about this (losing brightness) a year ago. i replaced all the lights in my house with LEDs. it seemed like the light over my stove had lost brightness. i thought my eyes were growing dim. i know fluorescents lose brightness, but surprised now to find LEDs do the same. i would say it happened a lot sooner than 6 months, more like 2 months. somewhere on these messages i asked about this same thing.

    • @anoxicfiltrationplenums
      @anoxicfiltrationplenums  Před 3 měsíci

      I know what you mean, manufactures do not like to tell people that you will lose 30% of your light within six months. This is something I found out through my research of LEDs that they do deteriorate until they hit about 70% of the brightness then they will stay that way until they finally burn out. However, cheaper LEDs may lose more than 30%. Like I said in my video if you run it six hours a day I extended it to six months because usually I found out it's rated at about 1000 hours when you will lose 30%. So yes, if you run your lights longer than six hours, it definitely will cut into that thousand hour timeframe.

      @@anoxicfiltrationplenums energy(electricity) should be completely clean and nearly free. they have found geothermal areas close to the surface where all you have to do is drill down and there it is, free energy for millions of years.
      ''With the ability to provide electricity, heating, cooling, and storage-plus the potential to access critical minerals, capture and sequester carbon, produce green hydrogen, and more-the natural heat of the Earth is a powerhouse ready to be tapped. And investors and leaders across both the public and private sectors are moving full steam ahead with geothermal.''
      ''Deep wells are drilled into underground reservoirs to tap steam and very hot water. The steam and hot water are then brought to the surface for use in a variety of applications, including electricity generation, direct use, and heating and cooling.''

    G'day Dr Kevin, the tank I have is 1 metre long 50cm front to back and 70cm deep with a strip light as from the original setup, I want to upgrade the lighting what can you suggest, thanks.

      See if you can find the fixture in the center of my aquarium and then go out and buy one of the very high output 11,000 luminous LED bulbs. One bulb will do a 3 foot tank easily.

    So what light are you recommending today ?

    • @anoxicfiltrationplenums
      @anoxicfiltrationplenums  Před 3 měsíci

      The same ones I always been recommending for over a year now is the ones you can buy at a hardware store. No longer are you subject to what an aquarium facility sells. Of course, I like the metal halide lights because they are so bright but they give off way too much heat. Today we have an alternative to those very hot lights by going with the cooler high output, LED lights. Just make sure you buy them like I showed you in the video. In fact, I just took a screenshot of a person that has a 6 foot tank using for LED lights from a well-known manufacture. If she would've done what I did, she would only use two of the high output, LED bulbs and fixtures, putting out 22,000 luminous output. And probably more than likely she would've saved hundreds of dollars. She would've only needed to use two lamps not four.

    I use the same grow lights which I grow cana--- I mean tomatoes. It's way cheaper, and it's efficient. An aquarium light on my seedling would not work, so for me these lights are scam

    • @anoxicfiltrationplenums
