- An amazing GE grow LED light along with Andrew’s aquariums from the United Kingdom
QUOTE from Andrew:
QUOTE: "These are 4 12-liter tanks I setup all at the same time using a plenum in 3 of them. Now look at the one without a plenum and only had a small sponge filter in it, it's full of mulm and stinks the other 3 are immaculate."
Thanks Dr. Novak for sharing.
Glad you liked it!
Ive been testing different LED lights purchased off Amaozon. That exact light is on my list. So far, I have had the best luck with the cheapest light ive purchased. They are thin panels and only 10 watts per panel. The only downfall is they only work for tanks with glass tops or tanks that are on racks where you can zip tie them. Currently working on developing a stand for them to use on tanks with no top. The tank that I have used these secific lights on since start up of tank, has been almost completely algae free. I have another tank that was having a bad algae problem. Pretty much every kind you can think of. I switched over to these lights and now the algae is dying back and plants are doing better. These are 5, 10 and 20 gallon tanks. They are also my own version of dirted/sand caped tanks.
Suprising how there are so many expensive "aquarium lights" on the market and im buying these sets for about 13 bucks for 2 pannels (20 watts total)
I agree with you. Great information. Thanks for sharing. 💗👍✌️💯 By the way what type of pleco is that in your video its beautiful 💗
Interesting light, why not right
I put a plenum in my 15 gallon tank can’t wait to see the results any tips I should do?
Hi Dr.Novak I have mix feelings about the GE grow lights, I actually started my first slow moving plenum tank with two of these, they make certain types of plants grow like crazy, but others don't like it as much, they also trigger two types of algaes, I was able to deal with them but I really had to be on top of it, I changed back to a DIY led light and the algae was greatly reduced, I recently made an experiment with the grow lights I ran them along the DIY led light, the grow lights on for just 3 hours a day, and the plants grew very well, but then I got an outbreak of this algae (I don't know the name) so I have stop using them again and I am removing the algae manually and using hydrogen peroxide, nothing impossible to deal with, and I am looking forward to see updates from you, on your experience with the GE grow lights, I really like how the red plants look under these lights. 🙂
So far so good but like anything else time will tell how good it really works in the long run.
Hey Dr. Do you use any root tabs or fertilizers in the 90 gallon? I know the amazons are heavy root feeders. Great video by the way
I don't
In Bentley Pascoe review of the Fluval 3.0 he said blue light can promote Blackbeard algae and sets the blue to 3% which is very low. Now I’m not sure if this blue light is a all lights issue or just the fluval but your observation is interesting. On my light (not fluval) which turned out to be faulty but the interesting correlation is the blue light was stuck on when I set it off and it seems the blue light intensity was just using the white intensity value which is 90% and what I’m getting Black Beard algae.
Would not use the light as a standalone light. I would mix it the way I have it.
Sir what could be done to keep substrate permeable so plenum will keep on working
The size of the substrate makes all the difference in the world.
There ony pest snails if you do t like them in your tank personally I dont mind them
I agree. I love all the snails in my tanks.
Put couples assassins snails for take out your pest snails
Putting sand on top of gravel isn't going to work in the long term, eventually all the sand will end up on the bottom.
This something you have personally observed in the long run?
@@anoxicfiltrationplenums Yes, I've tried putting sand on top of gravel. It always shifts down to the bottom. I ended up sucking the sand out using the gravel vac tube leaving the gravel. Maybe put a screen under the sand?
I have done the sand on top of gravel in a few tanks especially ones with Cory's in and they been fine for years the sand is still on top of the gravel now
@@anoxicfiltrationplenumsI have also tried many times with sand on top of gravel as well as Fluval stratum. The gravel and stratum always seems to end up above the sand.
