    Also, thanks for saving me money on a CO2 setup because my tank has too much disturbance via the overflow for the sump.

    I use the GE flower spectrum on most of my aquariums.. I love them. that being said.. aquarium lights these days are better. They are adjustable spectrum, dimmable, built in timmer, water proof, aquarium safe, controlled from your phone anywhere you go. That’s why it costs more… you get more.. that being said there are plenty of 6500k strip leds for aquariums that are even cheaper than my GE bulbs .

      You're absolutely right. The only thing of it is with all those fancy add-ons to the lights I never use them. In fact, once the light has been set, I never touch it for its longevity. So all those gimmicks and whistles that you're paying extra for really do not benefit somebody like me once I get them set. I understand some people like all the bells and whistles, but on the other hand, do you really absolutely need it? In my opinion no, they're just bells and whistles. For me, I'm glad to get rid of the strip lights. They were a pain to work around constantly.

    Dr Novak: Thank you for the ongoing education. My question is regarding indoor tanks without hoods or tops. There are many advantages and some disadvantages, one of which is the loss of tank water through evaporation. Would there be a potential problem for those living in colder climates to have condensation inside the exterior walls of a home, causing damage? Perhaps one or two small tanks would not be a problem.

      If you're worried about humidity, I live in Florida and it is nothing but humidity. In fact, a house can get within one year moldy here in Florida. But I can admit that during winter times when humidity would get high or even up north, it would get very low because of the furnace would burn off the humid conditions.. I don't really see a problem and if there was a problem, a dehumidifier could take care of those problems of too much humidity in the house. However, when I lived up north during the winter time, the humidity would not go over 30% no matter what I did to add humidity to the house, except with a humidifier.

    Dr. Novak.
    Thank you for all the time you spend in private research.
    I have been taking your advice for a few years now, and have never been led astray.
    I am currently importing black star bettas to breed. The male will be housed in an anoxix 7 gallon nano, the females will share an anoxic 20 gallon tall.
    Your insight is invaluable to me.
    THANK YOU!
    SINCERELY, COOP.

    Could I modify a strip light aluminium housing by removing the led board and using a hole saw cut holes in the aluminium housing and mount, say 3 lights 1 per foot of aquarium, or do they need to be at a height above the tank? If makes sense to modify the original strip light, what luminous per globe would I need to light a 70cm deep tank?

    • @princescdk3107
      @princescdk3107 Před 3 měsíci

      I have had algae BUT it you have plenty of plants the height is only if you want to use less light so you cover more ground. Trust if you have enough plants algea can't do much. So modify to your heart's content get as bright as you want. If you see algae increase the amount of plants you have and all of a sudden you have a lush tank with the problem of keeping them cut😅 good luck

    What kind of moss are u growing in the aquarium by the window..in your vintage aquarium

  • @growclipbonsaiforseniors1951

    Question, not pertaining to lighting. pH. Mine is always at 6. All my tanks. Even the new small ones with the plenums I made. Water changes and stirring the gravel with tanks without a plenum and vacuuming the gravel does not help. Tap water is almost 8. I cannot figure out what I am doing wrong. I cannot get a straight answer. Any ideas? I even have a heavily planted tank and it is the same. Fish all good though. Thank you for any help you can give me.

      @anoxicfiltrationplenums  Před 4 měsíci

      The same thing has happened to me, but by adding a little bit of baking soda, I was able to counter react the low pH, and bring it up to normal conditions of 7.0.

    is the video setting making your plants look yellow in color or is it really yellow in color?

    • @anoxicfiltrationplenums
      @anoxicfiltrationplenums  Před 3 měsíci

      No, that's just the way the video is showing it under direct intensity, light. If you look at the 15 gallon aquarium, you'll notice that the moss looks very green and it was taken right out of the antique aquarium. Lighting and iron will change the intensity of green of the moss.

    I think people are "worried " about the power consume that may be the reason they go for led strips

    • @anoxicfiltrationplenums
      @anoxicfiltrationplenums  Před 4 měsíci +1

      In my next video, I'm going to address just that situation of power consumption. LEDs from the hardware store or from a pet store consume about the same amount of electricity. However, now the more advanced lights that are out there consume less electricity and give you more higher light output than the lights that consumers buy at the aquarium store. Today I have found LEDs do use 50 w of electricity and put out over 11,000 lm output @ 5000k. No and I mean no light that you can buy for an aquarium that's premade for the aquarium can put out that much light output. And yes, the same lights can last over 50,000 to 100,000 hours of use. That means if you have your lights on for six hours a day it should last you 23 years at 50,000 hours of use.

    What’s your take on using liquid ferts with the good lighting? My circumstance is that I’m trying to revive my previous mistake with my plants. Was using a cheap led bar and now that I am using your advice on lighting, was wondering if using ferts would provide too much nutrition for algae

    • @anoxicfiltrationplenums
      @anoxicfiltrationplenums  Před 2 měsíci

      If you have a good lighting and you need to add the liquid fertilizer, then there's nothing wrong with it as long as they get used up by the plants and don't cause algae problems.
