Nice to see you feature our town! The castle (ruins) are reached by the west hill lift which is the one you pointed out. The far (eastern) end of the sea front has the east hill fenicular railway. Sadly you you seem to have missed out the old town just to the north of where you bought your gelato. You must come again for a better look round and some fish and chips!!!!

Hastings looks like a really nice place, some parts of it kind of remind me of Scarborough in a way, like the headland with the castle, and the "cliff tram" as we call them in Yorkshire 😊 enjoyed this one 👏😀

Love Hastings great little town by the coast. Yes that cable car contraption is actually funicular railway one of two in Hastings, West Hill and East Hill. I believe one is currently closed at the moment. I do love a good ice cream myself and a 99 with the flake is one of my favourites. I often wondered where the name comes from? Great footage on the drone and bike cam.

I’ve read it originated from Scotland Stefano Arcari who sold ice cream from his shop at 99 portobello high st. After breaking flakes in half and naming them after the address. And there is many more theories! Loved the view over Hastings fabulous.

Nice drone shots Darren. Cant go to the seaside without having Hot donuts. Remember as a child, Mom buying a bag of them and ripping off the edges of the bags for us to able to hold the hot donut. Also would have to go into the amusements and put a few pence into the machines for nostalgia

Its a funicular railway Darren - we have one near me at Saltburn and there is one at Southbourne in Bournemouth. There used to be a lift up from Whitby beach onto the headland not sure if thats still in service though
I adore a Mr Whippy ‘99 and my favourite ice cream flavour is Pistachio and I love anything ‘salted caramel’! Beautiful drone work … I was willing you to get fish and chips and sit on a wall with your little wooden fork … next time maybe!! Another cracking vid DJ 🤟🏍️🍦🍧⛵️⚓️

Oh our dj ! There's so much more to see and do there, there's some fantastic eateries if you know them, St Leonards especially, the bike shop you went in used to be miller's motorcycles, been there for years mate, then there's gedges motorcycles just around the corner, hastings motorcycles on Beaconsfield Rd behind Alexandera Park, moton motorcycles on ponswood industrial estate, gadgets motorcycles also in ore village, and if your into harleys V TWIN custom motorcycles at rye Harbour Rd rye. You should seriously ride to locksbottom south London on mayday morning, have a mooch, then do the mayday run down to Hastings, I'll meet you in the Carlisle pub or the Lord Nelson for a refreshments. Xx

Brought a tear to my eye i had a FS1E and not only was it the fastest and coolest moped around it was my baby just wished I'd of kept it 😢

Omg you came to where I live! Shame you didn’t show the old town , there’s some lovely pubs & buildings etc On the May bank holiday we get loads of bikers here, the whole town has bikes everywhere. Loved the drone shots, you will have to come back again😊

Oh Darren, when at 10.40 when doing your piece to camera - behind you over your l/h shoulder. There's the pub up that lane (parallel with the main road) you go to the fish market stalls and lofts. In there is Maggie's Fish 'n Chips. Delicious! Worth a visit next time.

It’s called a funicular, vernacular is to do with language.

Hi Darren. Great vlog from Route 1066 and in Hastings. You wondered where the "99" ice cream originated. Well, apparently it has nothing to do with having chocolate flakes put on top. Years ago, the ice cream makers from Italy had different biscuit wafers and cones and they all had a number actually on the cone itself. It has just developed since then. Hope this helps.😎🍦🍦
Great drone video Darren, the beach is so quiet probably all in the amusement arcade’s, the bike shop looks a nice place for a look round it will bring back a few memories for the older bikers, the double 99er looks nice or should it be a 198er nice whatever it’s called

The king of Italy had an elite bodyguard consisting of 99 men, so anything elite was called 99s by the italians. So they called the elite ice cream a 99. Another version is the first ice cream shop in Scotland was numbered 99. Probably loads more stories out there. Who really knows? But very interesting 😊❤

You pointed at the lift up the hill and the gap was between a pub and a fish and chip shop. I went to that chip shop last time I was in Hastings and it was bloody awful, worst chips (and battered sausage) I have ever had in my life!

The lift you pointed out was the West Hill lift that one goes up to the Castle along the end is the East Hill Lift which goes up to the country park
