I never thought about how weird it is that Cady says she's from Africa. Imagine some French kid moving in and saying "I moved here from Europe". Instead of just the country they came from.

I'm asian and when i first saw this i was like "damn, american high schools are like a hot mess of people on their 20s"
There's pretty strict rules about overtime and night filming when using minors in movies, so a lot of studios will use older actors to play high schoolers if they think they can get away with it. I'm so used to it now it's jarring to see real high school age kids in movies.
I don't understand how cliques can be so formal like in this movie?
@@sanwayachilles they're really only formal in the sense that they hang out at lunch, which is very realistic. Usually there are less and larger cliques, but this movie pretty accurately portrays it.

In one scene, Cady said she likes maths because _"it's the same in every country"._ This implies that her parents moved around Africa a lot, which would explain why Cady simply tells people she's from Africa when asked where she's from.

MissOrsa nah, we have about 30% Muslims/Punjabi/Hindus, 33% Caucasian people then 14% are black people, 11% are Asian people. The other 12% are the other ethnicities. I only know this because they had a statistic online on the school but they’ve now stooped it,

1:55 - when my mother was in the hospital and nursing home, I would ask nurses with African accents where they were from. In nearly every case, they all said the same thing: "Africa." It took several more tries for them to tell me what country!

In film school, I found out none of my (all male) teachers had seen Mean Girls so I proceeded to do every single project possible on Mean Girls.
Wow what an accomplishment.
I remember I was in high school when this movie came out and I remember seeing it in theatres and thinking the whole time "this is exactly how the girls behave in school". Also, the fact that it was shot in my city, Toronto makes this movie even more iconic.
Believe it or not but my school was also like this and when i first saw it in 2007 i was shocked how relatiable it was to my school

When I was on high school some girls wrote a burn list, and they began a "tradition" with it, and a few years later it gets out of hands when the list went around our small town, someone decide to do a Regina and put prints of the list around town, the school had to suspend some girls, I don't remember is someone get expelled, and was a little scandal, they really took this movie into reality.
They forgot to mention Mean Girls was one of the last "good" teenager movies before Hollywood started doing spoof teenager movies and straight-to-DVD teenager movies. Then it all fell apart from there.
Since you brought them up, I'd love to see trailers for The Breakfast Club and Clueless.

I remember being mortified at how accurate that movie was to my experience of going to public school in 7th grade after homeschooling my whole life....
