    Hello loves,
    This was a highly requested video by so many of you, so I thought I would dive deeper into this conversation on my journey with weight gain, building more muscle, and getting my period back again! To start off, I have lost my period on and off for quite some time and I actually created a video a couple of years ago about this if you wanted to go back in time and watch that! To sum up my journey with weight gain and getting my period back, here are the steps and some things I did to help with this process:
    1. Education: I began to educate myself more about the female body, and learned that a woman's body fat percentage should be around 13-14%, so therefore I knew I wanted and needed to become physically stronger to achieve these numbers.
    2. My fitness routine: I started making some slight changes to my workout routine, such as weight training and increasing with heavier weights about 2x a week while doing pilates 3x a week. Exercise helps to regulate your estrogen levels by increasing the lean muscle mass in your body. I also made sure to implement cardio by doing long walks throughout the week as well!
    3. Nutrition: To increase muscle, women have to eat around 1.25-1.3g of protein per pound of their current weight. I tried my best to target for 130g of protein a day and worked my way up from there. To do this, I made sure to add in protein to every meal throughout the day, having meals more frequently, and ALWAYS having a protein-packed breakfast first thing in the morning. Of course, with all of this I was also consuming more fats and more carbohydrates. I also experimented with "seed-cycling" by adding healthy seeds to my breakfasts to help balance hormonal levels!
    4. REST: Most importantly, I made sure to prioritize rest and recovery. Taking days off when needed, getting outside, and following the "80/20" rule when it comes to your wellness journey is the most important part.
    5. Think about your "why": Get really clear with your personal goals. Believing in yourself, embracing your "new" body, and celebrating the changes you are going through is the most beautiful part of the entire process. Everything in your reality is a manifestation of your thoughts!
    A friendly reminder as I know this topic of weight gain and/or weight loss may be triggering for some people, that everyone's journey and fitness goals may look very different. Becoming physically stronger is what I wanted to work on personally, and with that came lots of patience, acceptance to change, and hard work. I want to remind you to always do whatever you feel works best for YOUR mind and body, and not what others are doing.
    xx

    I can relate to your story so much Sanne 🦋 I've struggled with weight gain/ED for so many years until I "just" started listening to my body and trusted that it will know what and how much I needed to eat/train (and not train) every single. day. So much has changed over the last few years and yet here I am - still me but somehow so very different than I used to be. I am deeply grateful for all that my body has carried me through. I’m grateful for how far I’ve come. And I'm grateful for people like you - who share honestly about their journey. And if you (who ever is watching this video rn is still struggling, I want you to know that if I can move from self-abusive, anxious and broke to living an abundant, liberated life-you can do, too. And if you can't trust that yet, I trust it for you.
    So, don't give up on what's important to you - just because it isn't easy! Xx Nila

    yes! sometimes the menstrual cycle is a reflection of our overall health and considered by some to be a "fifth vital sign" alongside things like blood pressure, body temp, heart rate, breathing rate, etc. so important to pay attention to what our bodies are telling us

    I have a completely different body type and never struggled to gain weight, I'd say it's the exact opposite, but maaan have I realised how easily our menstrual cycle can be thrown out of whack! Mine has been acting bats**t crazy for months, it is now slowly getting back to normal and I blame it on a job I hated that was affecting my mental and physical health. Too much cortisol in the rig, and periods won't put up with that! Life takes a big toll on our hormone balance, take care of yourselves girls ❤

    So amazing that you share this story! Eating more than you're used to is already a really good cue to get your period back and also take more rest. Stress is one of the biggest influences on a healthy cycle. I'm happy for you that it's stable now and that you've gained 4,5 kg! I did the same when I was 22 or something, not to get my period back, but to get stronger. I think I've gained 6 kilo's in a half year but it was soooo hard haha, I remember I ate like 3200 kcal a day, but because I had a sporty job it still went very slowly. What you said about your body is changing is totally true, it has good sides, but also you see other parts of your body growing (like your belly) which you sometimes don't want to see growing. But in the end, it's all worth it! Great job Sanne and I love that you share this!

    I had trouble gaining weight most of my life too! When I started gaining healthy weight was soon after I met my husband, and that made me realize that feeling stress was a lot of what kept me from gaining weight. I ended up naturally gaining the weight when I felt more relaxed! An added benefit to meeting my husband! 🥰

    Love love the message from this, not just your story but the fact that women need a certain body fat to be healthy and functioning properly. I also had a hard time eating and had a really slow metabolism (I had regular periods tho) but when I started "forcing" myself to eat breakfast I had sustained energy throughout the day and my hormonal acne actually healed itself. high protein breakfast for women is amazing!

    Why didn't you do this years ago? You've been dealing with missed periods since you were a teenager, and on top of that, you've been selling a 'healthy' lifestyle on CZcams for 6 years, which is obviously not true if you're undernourished, and missed periods are the thing you've been dealing with for years.

    • @rvdh15
      @rvdh15 Před 7 měsíci

      Obviously.. she was almost transparent at some point. You can read anxiety all over, etc. Don't believe everything online. They are all trying to sell you something, promoting a healthy lifestyle is not the real goal here 😅

  • @nanaisloved2736
    @nanaisloved2736 Před 9 měsíci +1

    It makes me so happy seeing your approach, you really did all the right things and it's so refreshing to see a model promoting heavy strength training as it's still stigmatized to make women "bulky". Personally I'm very much into bodybuilding, but having 2 jobs that sometimes correlate schedule-wise which leads to extreme stress plus uni plus being on my feet all the time led me to having no period for 2 years:( and it's so draining that I can't even give my all during training. Life is getting so expensive so many people can't really avoid stress, which makes this society quite toxic😢

      It is so important to understand and realize what it really means to be „healthy“. Back then I thought I’m having a healthy lifestyle as I was eating healthy, doing sports and being skinny… it took me 6 years to listen to my body and to understand that, without my period, I’m definitely not healthy. Now, I’m feeling better than ever in my life and I’m so proud. You can also be very proud of yourself, Sanne ❤️

    Hi Sanne ♡ , i Hope you are doing well.
    I would like to thank you for this video.
    I really appreciate how you decided to be transparent with this topic. You could have chosen to keep this journey for yourself, we would have respected choice. But the fact that you are sharing it with us, and present this subject with the most pleasant and comfortable way. I really appreciate the way you feel comfortable about talking openly about your weight journey, because I feel some women tend to hide it and feel guilty for gaining some weight after being for years super slim (naturally or not) it isn’t easy and I have been through the same journey so I am familiar with that.
    Thank you for being you and helping others.
    Reading people’s comments makes me so happy for them and for you when they mentioned that you are helping them.
    Take care ♡

    If your body fat is too low yes you won’t get your period it’s nothing to do with muscle .
    If you don’t have fat for hormones to live as hormones need fat to live :( and then you get osteoporosis so get your bones checked if you don’t have your period

    As someone who has been struggling for years with my weight, (going from healthy, slightly overweight, and too overweight over and over again) i really admire you for doing this. My main issues with my weight have been mostly aesthetics even tho i know constantly gaining and losing weight ain't great, but for you to actively try to gain weight for your health even tho you might have a hard time accepting your changes in your body is really impressive. Obviously you look amazing before and after ! But its one thing to want to gain weight because you want to have more curves or something, it is then easier to accept yourself since it was your aesthetics goal but when its not wow ! I am trying to better myself and lose weight but in a way this video about you trying to gain weight reminded me that I am also doing this to be healthier and not just "prettier". Anyway you look great and you are such a positive person that i have been following for years.

    Having a natural period is amazing! It’s a sign of good health and makes us feel more confident, strong, and empowered!
    I struggled with similar issue recently. But I gained me period back within a month (!!) when I started eating heavier breakfast and more healthy fats! Irregular meal times was my issue… I didn’t even need to gain weight even though I would like to because I’m clearly underweight - and have always been this way. :/ It's important not only to eat enough but also regularly - especially if you are a very lean person and are not carrying much extra fat and protein in your body. Now my period is regular again and lasts 6-7 days. Gaining weight is really challenging especially if you have physically active lifestyle…

    I just wanted to suggest that you haven’t add protein but much more foods and nutrients. I was working with women for years and actually it’s not protein the key but efficient nutrients and calories
    I’ve seen women reverse cycle problems or absence with nutritious vegan low protein diets
    Just morning nutrition and enough natural foods is way enough. Just sharing my experience. I find that we put way too much concern on protein as if it was a food… but its not and all natural foods bring so much more than protein.

    Hey Sanne, blij dat je dit deelt en bespreekbaar maakt. Als jonge vrouw met PCOS is het voor mij elke maand afwachten als ik mijn maandstonden krijg. Voor mij is gezonde voeding, bewegen en stress verlagen cruciaal, zoniet merk ik direct een terugval. Veel succes nog met je nieuwe routine, liefs❤

    hey Sanne - thank you so much for sharing this - I'm going through a similar thing after being a competitive runner for years- I wonder, when you initially increased your calorie intake, how did you deal or get used to any bloating etc?

    • @SanneVloet
      @SanneVloet  Před 8 měsíci +2

      Hi!! Such a good question, it’s so common for runners to lose their period.. I made sure to focus on eating foods that didn’t upset my stomach or make me bloat as much. (Of course bloating happens with everyone, we have to remind ourselves it is normal)! But overall, I focused on the foods that were easy on my stomach. This is trial and error with finding foods that work for you and that don’t work for you. :) Some common foods that can cause bloating for many people are beans, legumes, some tofus, dairy products, gluten, cruciferous vegetables!

    I really enjoyed this video especially the part about thinking forward. Our culture is so focused on the aesthetic and I feel like it makes it so easy for me to slip back into restrictive habits..

    Hi, thanks for this video, I really enjoy watching your videos and thanks for all the inspiration. I am currently in a similar situation and I'm doing a lot of strength training during the week, I am also studying sports. I already have elevated my calorie intake, but my period has still not come back. So I wanted to ask if it is necessary to really go in a high surplus or how much do you think does the body need? I am a little bit struggling of eating even more because I think I already eat enough. Love, Johanna
