- Small update with new build. After being stuck at 7'3X for a while, I really didn't expect to get this time with no topple during flight. It can go a bit lower still, but this will probably be my last attempt at Alatreon for now.

I love watching lance players because I only play lance. But I hate watching lance players because apparently I don’t even play lance.
I could say the same thing about all the weapons I play when I watch good people play with them. Like am I playing the same game? And I across my mon hun career of psp, ds and now world have actively used every weapon except for HH
This is one of the most beautiful lance runs I’ve seen.

truly a masterpiece of lance speedrun, this makes me believe a sub 7 is possible!
also, that flinch in the air that ala chained to an ice attack, damn that was bad luck! but still got the most cinematic kill out of that bad situation ;)
That same air flinch ruined a couple of my runs before, so I was almost ready to reset. I'm really glad it died right after!

I thought Hellsnout would be too inconsistent to run, but it turned out to be not that bad. Most of my resets were in the ice phase, and the rest of the run goes smoothly because of the topple in the dragon phase. Much easier than having to reset late into the run.
The flight topple still needs a bit of luck though...

I've been using a Safi/MT set, but I wonder if I'm leaving too much damage on the table by not using Agi 7.
Thanks! I've tried Safi/MT too (with Attack4/Agitator5) and I think both sets are very close. The set I used barely wins in overall damage. It trades 6 or 7 hits from needing to sharpen for 3% more damage. At the time of the 2nd sharpen both sets are pretty much even in damage, but that 3% might matter in the final stretch if you can kill it one move earlier.
Safi/MT is faster at getting the topple since you can get 3-4 more hits in during the ice flight animation. You can also use purple sharp for exactly +1 element damage on the head.
If I were to do this run again with the exact same AI, I would go with Safi/MT to get the topple earlier. It's hard to tell which set is better though because topple timing varies so much. There were many runs where I got a quick flight topple with the set I used, so I kept running with it.
Actually I checked my sets again and it's Attack 5, not 4. That makes it a 2% difference and the Safi/MT has better overall damage.
Now I kinda want to try more runs with Safi/MT...

surviving that attack at 0:48 is already blowing my mind. Even with Safi chip damage, before the heal kicks in.
Came back to World from Rise recently. Yeah Rise's lance can be pretty fun with specific switch skills and match ups, but fighting a Great Jagras in World already reminded me why I fell in love with Lance in the first place and this video makes me want to dust off all my skills and go beyond. Won't ever be on your lvl, but... God freaking damn who will?! 🤣

Lance is way too weak to do that sadly. Alatreon will always tries to escaton after reaching low HP, so you need a lot of CC and burst damage to kill it early.
Maybe its's possible if we try the special assignment quest? that way we'll be facing alatrron head on, and not start on the camp, or are we not allowed to do that?
@@TheKZKAI The Special Assignment quest IIRC has the same amount of HP that the event one does.
would you consider using safi/resentment since you don't get hit? alatreon never seemed to get you with many heavy knockback hits, either, except for some of the mid-air beams, but you can just sidestep those
I think it wouldn't be great on ice Alatreon since I need to tank the frost breath. Maybe it's possible on fire Alatreon?
Nice run yaeca! Could you let me know is it possible for the lance to do normal guard without circle, and during the knockback activate the 360 fortified guard? I still don't quite know how people can block some stronger attack, gets knocked back and activate 360 guard afterwards.
Beautiful lance play! I've been playing lance too but man that grind to get the health augment is real lol.
Also how do you block facing backwards? i notice you do that a lot and still able to block the attack from behind you.
He is using power guard to block in all directions. My guess is so the knockback pushes him closer to alatreon instead of away
This is kinda late, but there are some attacks that you don’t need to face towards to successfully guard, such as Alatreon’s fire/water beams seen here. The power guards are just done as a way to cancel the knockback stagger and counterattack from it.

I know this is an old post but some agitated monster indicators will update late. You'll notice that it will say Agitator has worn off but the red eye indicator is still there meaning the indicator will be updated late and alatreon is already not angry.
I remember smashing this guy on mhp3rd before fighting it in world, and oh boy, was it difficult

It depends on the move. Some attacks can be blocked in any direction, while others have to be blocked in the direction they come from. Many of Alatreon's moves can be blocked in any direction.
How are you able to guard things from behind without using power guard? That seems really useful

It takes so long to get the topple with the lance...my goodness.
Waitwaitwaitwaitwait, you can sharpen with fins while your weapon is out? or is that a mod?
Also props on beating alatreon in starter gear, must have taken years to get a regular iron lance to have fire on it through sheer will.
You can sharpen with a normal whetstone while unsheathed too

Simply divine judgement I must say this is just definition of perfection the hands down best Lance build. I have never seen anyone as complete Monster with a Lance like you are. He or she or which your pronoun is you are a gem an such a fantastic monster hunter world 🌎 player.

Safi set skill. it heals if u keep attacking
whats that heal that seems to proc every so often?
thats the safi'jiva set ability, everytime you attack you lose a little bit of hp, even if you miss the attack, but every so often as you say, with coninous attacking, the safi'jiva set also gives you back that hp.
For regular mortals (like me) that means missing a lot will hurt a bit because then the heal wont be as good as if you always hit.

I was wondering about that 2....
yaeca is using safi set bonus + health augment on the weapon as far as I can tell. Safi set bonus normally does damage to you with each hit, but heals you for slightly more if you attack continuously. Health augment negates the damage from the set bonus though, so as long as they keep poking, they keep healing.
