I've added Quake's monsters to Infighter v1.1, a Quake II mod. Each one is a direct port from .qc to .c and behave exactly the same as they did in Quake.
Quake's models and sounds may not be distributed, so you'll have to convert them yourself. It's really simple to do, just read the README inside the zip.

Some of these battles don't seem fair, but it's interesting to watch the AI play out their assaults. The Ogre vs. the Gunner really surprised me though. I figured the gunners' machinegun and ability to throw multiple grenades woulda cleaned house.
At range yes. They stomp Ogres. But up close and personal Ogres have the advantage of Chainsaw.
I'd say a combination of flinching, close range, weak chaingun (it takes a literal eternity to start firing and its damage is just meh) and not all that much health is what did gunners in. If they had capitalized on their stupidly powerful grenade launchers, the outcome might have been different.
When on even ground, Ogres will run toward their target along with firing off grenades. And because the Strogg Gunners switch to their machine gun at midrange (which they have to wait before firing again), the Ogres will relentlessly maul them with their chainsaws (which has no cooldown and does damage that scales with the amount of time the target is in its range)

@@jackunlocker3125 Quake 2 enemies are so adorable :3, I completed the game just tonight. It was a blast and a little better than Quake 1 in my view.
Sometimes I feel as if the Strogg are the evolution of the grunts from Quake 1 who have been probed to feel pleasure when asserting pain. The reason I think this is because in Q1 E2M1 you can find some boxes with the Stroggos logo in a high tech facility where the only enemies are the human grunts and enforcers. It also could be that the Quake forces invaded the Strogg at some point and took some of their tech which they gave to the grunts, or the Strogg did some uneasy trading with the Quake forces...
P.S. In Q4 Matthew Kane also gets "probed" when he becomes stroggified, but his squad members save him before the probe gets "activated".
My favorite theory so far (all rights to the creator of multiverse fic with it) was that "Quake" universe is actually a simulation run in the minds of torso units. Dimension of "Quake" exists only to shake the souls of torso units (who incarnate as quake 1 monsters and normally just fight each other) so they keep producing fel energy required for powering up techni-magical slipgates/teleports used by Stroggos to nearly nullify their logistics issues, just teleporting in any supplies or reinforcements they need.
Conversely, torso units are mainly made of subjects who failed standard conversion into proper stroggs but survived; they are just hooked into Quake to still be useful and maybe, if they prove themselves really good at fighting there, to earn a chance to be made into elite strogg (using additional resources not spared for normal conversion).

The Mutant is basically the Fiend on roids! XD
+TAURON85 Yet I fear the Fiend more than Mutants when I play single player. Either Quake's AI is more aggressive, or Quake II's weapons are more powerful. Combat-wise Fiends and Mutants deal the exact same damage if I remember correctly.
+decino It feels more aggressive indeed. I think that's because the monsters reaction times in general are shorter in Q than in QII and yes weapons in QII are might overpowered a bit. Though I think mutant has more health points it dosen't feel more dangerious. Enemies in Q II need more preparation time before the attack. That's what I noticed. "Higher" intelligence sometimes comes with less efficiency. :)

There is one thing I tend to notice about melee damage in Quake 1. It is consistent the moment the monster engages its attack animation and persists until the victim moves out of the range.
The same cannot be said for the Quake 2 monsters since the damage will be registered if the attack connects with the target.
And from what I saw, the battle was done in Quake 2 engine. Perhaps that might clear up some things.
actually you can clearly see the ai difference in the video;
the mutant can unleash a jumping lunge attack only after walking for like 3-4 frames.
the fiend can lunge and lunge again and again in quake. it has no buildup time. this is why the fiend is always more deadly.
in this fight it just so happens that the mutants have more health than fiends. they are designed to take a few q2 double barrel shotgun blasts. that would gib the fiend pretty quickly.
those hickups in difficulty were put in by idsoft on purpose. they artificially nerfed the intelligence of their ai.
this design choice also mirrors the fact that weapons fire slower in quake2 than they did in quake1.
it was all deliberate to make the pacing slower.
the monsters also restart their animation cycles if you stun them by shooting them. so you can stun lock them into never shooting. the shambler dance also applies to gladiator and berserker...
they should have kept some of the AI at least more direct imo. but i guess they wanted q2 to be more accessible somewhat.

Shambler already lost 1v1 against a normal tank, it would lose to the commander aswell.

Ostensibly true, but this was before the idea of the Stroggs arose Which means that all of these were just experimental models that had nothing to do with the real story, and even that the story of an quake1 was just a game just for the experiment, it had no real story for the plot And that the real story begins from quake 2 In humanity's war against Strogg

Quake 1 and 2 are interesting because they are both different yet the same game. Very interesting .

the quake2 engine is not written in C like quake but rather C++ so it is faster, that's one of the differences.
it can also do colored lighting and play fmv videos lol. the levels for the first time have the hub dynamic which lets you go back to previous maps and backtrack.
the a.i is a little bit tweaked and it's a little bit smarter.
@@basteagui lol I forgot I even said this. I can explain what I meant. Both games are different yes. But the same in terms of some weapons like super shotgun. The jump sound is the same. The lava. Using cool music. Little things like that. It's kind if like Quake 1 and Quake 2 are in the same universe but in a different dimension of each other.

I know there was that Q2 Wars mod that nobody played, but it'd be nice to use this for a knockoff of Zdoom Wars, where you summon tons of monsters from whatever game to fight for you.

It’s funny, I always remembered the Shambler being more difficult to deal with than the Tank or Commander. He was always slow, explosives and powerhouse weapons like the Railgun would easily stagger him, overall easy to maneuver around.
Then the first time I fight the Shambler and seeing that he was almost everything the Tank and Commanders weren’t by being faster, their claws surprisingly tough to spam-maneuver due to some delays in animation, his ranged attack will ALWAYS hit you unless you got something blocking you or just too far away. (I know the best option was to spam the Super Nailgun but at the time of fighting him the first time, I didn’t know that. Plus I was in a scenario where most of my ammunition was dead due to playing on a higher difficulty.)
And to see the Shambler just get man-handled by the Tank Commander like that just simply told me that the Shambler may be faster and I’m assuming is likely physically stronger so long as he is doing his double-clawed smash but the latter just obviously has the better arsenal, hell, his own machine gun may as well be the equivalent of the Ranger’s Super Nailgun. It may as well have spammed that on the Shambler, at least at close range since it really like sweeping the area with that weapon.
I want to see this attempted again with the Quake 2 Remastered Enemy AI.

Quake 2 was not intended to be a sequel, but a new series that ran alongside Quake - I think this would have been a good idea in the end
Discovering that Tanks can fling Shamblers into the air like they’re fucking weightless is pretty damn cool, not gonna lie.
Even Berserkers can do that. I can only figure now the carnage the 2023 buffed ones would wreak upon any Quake monster.
Are there any source ports you could recommend for running this mod in? I've tried playing this in the regular Q2 and I get "msg overflow" spam a lot

@Ron S The forces of quake 1 are literally demons and lovecraftian creatures from different dimentions. They seek only to destroy everything. Whereas the Strogg seek to forcefully convert humanity into their ranks, believing they are the next stage in human evolution.

This is a great mod, but I can't get the Q1 monsters to show up. After extracting the pak files and running the converter, they are still blank spots. If I manually move the individual mdl files into the appropriate files in the new folder created by the converter, the Q1 monsters show up as orange diamonds. Any idea how to fix this?
+Bazooka Joe Thanks bud. Let's see, are you sure the models are in the right folder? For example, the Quake soldier should be in "Quake 2\infighter\models\quake1\army\tris.md2".
+decino Thanks for replying. I had a directory wrong and a clean reinstall of Q2 and the mod has fixed everything.
In my tests the Death Knight and Fiend put up better fights than I expected. The Gladiator beats every non boss monster, even the Shambler without much difficulty. But the Shamblers stick to lightning and are not smart enough to get in close and use their 2 handed smack.
+Bazooka Joe Glad to hear it's working now! Are you playing on nightmare difficulty by any chance? It makes monsters "dumb" and won't move as long as their target is in sight. Might explain why Shamblers aren't using their claws.

running on quake II from GOG. I put "src" files from mod github into
quake 2 root directory, but when I type "game infighting" nothing
changes in a gameplay. Looks like it isn't working. Could you help?

+decino just the idea of someone being able to work hard on a elaborate defense and have people challenge it with there horde of monsters. there would need to be some limitations though. for example monsters probably would have to take up points and only so many points can be used. otherwise everyone would just spam OP crap.
I copied Infighter and extract the prog and sound from the Pak. So how can i summon monsters for funny duels? And how to bound mouse wheel for scroll monster instead repeat to type commands?
Run the .bat script which came with the zip file which will convert Quake models into Quake 2 models. To summon monsters simply select them in-game and press the attack key.
Use the following commands to bind your mouse wheel to monster selections:
bind mwheelup inf_next
bind mwheeldown inf_prev

To make this fair you would have to adjust quake 1 monster health.
They wanted have more bullet spongy enemies in quake 1 because they could not have that many on the screen.
Instead of increasing monster health they decreased weapon damage, so the super-shotgun in quake 2 does
more than twice the damage of the double-barrel of quake 1.

Quake's enemies are sometimes much harder to dodge though. You really can't dodge a shambler you have to either melee dance or find cover. vore is kinda the same its almost impossible to dodge once the pod gets too close. quake 2 enemies hit harder but are usually much slower. i find the fiend way harder then the mutant just because the fiend closes the distance in frightening amounts of speed.

Check out then Quake Champions Doom Edition for Doom 2. It has monsters from every Quake game.

If the gunners just used their grenades a bunch, they probably would've won.
Tested. Gunners stomp Ogres at range with grenades. They lose in CQC battle because of Ogres Chainsaw.
