@@cybergothika6906 The sounds you hear with these ambient noises is things like big gun firing, planes flying by and radio sounds of battle of other people, while you've just crashed in a pod in some relatively low security area, everyone is completely unaware of you and you can take things at your own pace. Thats whats comforting about it. Its a similar feeling to what u get when u sit safely in your home and theres thunder sounds outside of your window. "supposed or not supposed" is a different topic, and in other areas of the game it does feel the way its intended, but definitely not in the first few levels.
same - it's so important in these games - they create a reality - and the tonality and frequencies are otherworldly and creates a feeling of big space, expansion, architecture and awe.
Memories. My god, such god-damn good gaming times. I remember, at some point in the middle of the game, reaching an underground area with the sounds of heavy machinery everywhere, turning my speakers up, and just letting the sounds play for hours and hours. Quake 2 is still gold to this day.
Oh the flashbacks. It's summer. I'm somewhat 11 years old. Playing Q2 with my friends. 2020 I'm in my 30s, playing Q2 RTX this morning. Level one ambient hits the same.
My compliments to whoever did this. I feel real war would not sound much different when you‘re in a city near the frontlines. Fighter jets roaring above your head, bomb blasts and the aching noises of crumbling concrete mixed with industrial machinery
My opinion is that Quake 2 PC doesn’t need music in the first place (it will not ruin gameplay experience of the great game), but PS1 version needs it.
These sounds are fantastic!! I still have them in my mind despite the whole time! I love especially these from ground zero level (the first boss encounter)
These distant horn like noises burn into your mind forever.
I don't know why I used to (and still do) find Quake 2 ambient noises so comforting and amazing.
They are. In levels that don't have ambient sound, if you don't have music playing, the game feels depressing lol
What? It was supposed to be alien and malevolent, threatening but you people has to always undermine things with crappy perception

These sounds had my heart race in excitement of danger and terror as a kid when i first played this
Wow, this was way ahead of its time... I feel like I am witnessing a war unfold before my eyes. Props to the sound team who made this for Quake.

RoblOnTour “The aching noises of crumbling concrete” That sir, was poetry.
Very good for sleeping... really!
I love these sounds especially in the second half of the video. They have real effect to relaxation or even sleep.
Somehow that silenced explosions and neon lamp doing this job way too good for sleeping
This is actually amazing. It really gives you an impression that some sort of a big war is going on.
Maybe I'm some sort of a freak, but this is what I really do enjoy listening to. Aside from the game's music, that is...
ROTSECHSMAN You are not a freak, you just have good taste
Quake Games had really good ambience and in my opinion Quake 2 are the best, they really did all of it for great gameplay experience.
Best ambient sounds ever!
Oh yes ! Thx RetroMantic, I was looking for the ambient noises for long !
This is music to my ears.
*ALL PODS LAUNCHED*

YES! This is the real shit!
I just love this!
This ambience made the Steam copy with the music removed sound like a totally different game.
sorry but its really not worth to play Quake II without the OST
I liked it more wiithout music, although the music is fucking great.

If the Strogg ever hit theaters, Neill Blomkamp would be the best choice.
I know this is an old comment but check out his short film Rakka!

Spoopy and cool.
"take it easy down there"
Always thought those bassy noises were supposed to be the music of the game lool, turns out they're meant to be faraway explosions or something
It's just missing "computer updated"
This part of the level (starting position) doesn’t have any computers near by
Yeah but the player's computer that shows missions keeps saying "computer updated" if you don't press F1
help computer
And I used to think the Big Gun was the actual soundtrack.

Sounds like Bonfire Night
