Ironically, I am living in Singapore but once I need a doctor visit like General doctors.. Phlippline doctor is more superior. Advantage of Singapore are their technology. Funny thing, I have back pain issue that sometimes i have difficulty breathing. Singaporean specialist doctor doesnt know what to do, he just says I need some rest, the doctor is even a Harvard graduate. Only Philippine doctor was able to pin point the issue.

Actually, Philippines healthcare is some of the worst in the world. I don’t know what you guys a talking about. You’ll rarely see a Filipino doctor anywhere but the Philippines. There is no reciprocity for Filipino doctors. Nurses barely are able to transition to the United States. It’s a little bit better than it used to be, but none of them were qualified in the past.

@@robm1945 I'm not saying Filipino healthcare professionals are the best in the world but this country exports nurses and doctors everywhere in the world. Our healthcare system here is not at par with rich countries because of government corruption but if I need some laboratory tests we don't have to wait for unreasonable time like what happens in Canada. No country is perfect.

@@salterrae2525 Agree! To be honest, been working in Singapore for almost 13 years now and tell you what. General doctor in Singapore are like intern, well thats what mostly i encounter. all they do was straight away give you meds and sometimes give you advise that is not so convincing. I have a house mate before, she had dangerorously high BP like 185/115 for more than a month. The Singaporean doctor didnt bother to take a BP on her but instead just ask her to rest at home. But when she came to Philippine and get 2nd opinion, Filipino doctor was concern about her and give proper meds. Just after a week, she feel better. Even my indian collegue felt the same way. However, Sigapore Hospital technology, machines, computer system were far more better.

Alex, when you interview expats or foreign retirees, can you make sure to tell them to be vigilant and aware when they deal with people asking money not to trust them so fast. If it is about money, it is too hard to trust others. foreign visitors are there not to give away anything free but to enjoy their stay and help the Philippine economy . My advice for tourists and for those who's trying to find a place to settle in, be careful. there is less crime here, the food is great, the people of course are friendly and all the good things in between, but still be careful. if you plan on dating a Filipina, know her first and know her background. don't do things that will hurt yourself and don't go womanizing. the first thing you should do is to befriend a male professional, a well educated Filipino to help you out and give advice. if you have a female friend, that's ok too but having a male friend if you are a male yourself is better.

For the first guy, it's good that he has a Filipino to rely on for legal matters beyond the visa. Second guy is chill and seems to be having the best time in his life. While he's speaking his eyes light up. I'm sorry for third guy he seemed to have the worst experience amongst the three. Living Abroad, I like how you synthesize their opinions and how you engage your interviewees to respond.

Filipinos ask how I like it here in the Philippines. I answer - Living here for 14 years I have gotten into a rhythm and love to walk just before the sun goes down at a tree-lined park. I get thirsty when I finish my walk, drive my shiny red car along the highway, and stop in front of Rick's barbeque, parking in front. They know me and bring a beer and an ice-filled baso or glass. The setting is perfect, with a great breeze, and a terrific sunset, and the beer is cold, and best of all the lite smell of the barbeque. Terrific. Couldn't have asked for better. Then a woman of the night, a real looker, happens by and asks who owns the shiny red car. She spots me and sees my wife. She turns and walks away. Then the barbeque smoke gets so thick that we must move and stand up.

In Philippines, what is common is burial, cremation is also another way of resting our dead loved ones. As for me with my foreigner husband, we already have a spot in a memorial park where we lives. And, I already got that spot, long before he met me. I paid it for installment for few years in a reasonable price. I got two spots, that even my parents and or any loved ones that might say goodbye can use it. One slot can be use up to three persons. So, for two slots, sixe people can be put there. We don't like to die, but that is the reality of life, for me, it's better to be prepared it so those w will be left behind will not be stressed for my burial. Yes, my husband will not be cremated. We will be together even under the ground. 😊

I live in a province 'city' on Negros Island. Not a city in the sense the Americans think of as a city but they call it a city. Anyway its not modern like IT Park or BGC. Those are more modern and westernized so its a lot easier for foreigners to get acclimated. So living in a 'province' can be challenging to say the least. The apartment is spacious open floor plan, 2 large bedrooms with 2 full size baths for around $200 per month. You couldn't get that in the US. Traffic is much lighter than Cebu, Dumaguete or definitely Manila. They recently installed some Traffic lights. However, no traffic rules apply of course. People just go with the flow. Only 2 hospitals here but not very modern and equipped like the US. In my opinion if you're living in a comfort city like IT Park or BGC you dont really know what it's like to live in the Philippines amongst the locals. Been living here for alittle over 2 years now.

Advice to all seniors traveling around the world. Be careful the woman asking money from you especially the younger ones. Time and generation change so be on guard, there’s a lot of scammers around to bit you. When women ask for money run away from them.

That Ausie guy though... I am married to a westerner but never asked for anything as I was afraid he may demand something from me in exchange. I thought to myself that just in case things will not go well with us, he has nothing to talk about against me 😀. I suspect those ladies asking for money are on the job just to get money not for long term relationship.

I totally agree with most of the answers. We are considered walking ATMs for many of the women in the philippines, but that's no different than in the West. As a retired man , I am interested in retiring in the philippines for the financial benefits and a woman who is traditional in her values . Basically, the things that are dying in the west that men want in their lives. It's all a trade-off as women want stability and security in their lives, and men want to be loved and cared for . I don't understand why men would be having children in their retirement years, but some guys do, and that is their own personal choice. I've been there and done that for me, and I prefer to just enjoy my retirement in peace as much as possible 🙏.

I’ve watched a lot of Philippine videos of retirees moving there, but what you don’t see is retirees that have medical issues like diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and need to have medication. They don’t tell you what medicines cost in the Philippines I pretty much know what they cost in Thailandbut not in the Philippines can you find people with medical issues that take medication and find out what they spend per month on the high blood pressure, high cholesterol medicine

Yes, I know how the Filipino nurses are. That’s my point! you Do not know what you’re talking about. filipino physicians cannot come to the United States without massive retraining or passing the USMLE. Same goes for the nurses without extensive retraining and passing the boards here. That’s why they don’t import them much anymore because it’s not worth the expense. In my 35 years in the medical field, I have seen one Filipino physician and most likely because they went to United States school. The Philippines is rated one of the lowest quality healthcare in the world so I don’t know where you’re getting your information from. I have firsthand experience for years to back up what I say. So if you wanna get your care in the Philippines, be my guest.
