This is MAGIC. I love the English phrasing... And the elegance in how *Portuguese and English dance together* in this song, always connected by the word saudade. I researched Maro: world tour with Jacob Collier, returned to Portugal, made duets with many musicians - from Eric Clapton to Salvador Sobral, was praised by Tracy Chapman, Justin Timberlake, collaborated with Quincy Jones... She lived in the United States, studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston... Oh my...

My father passed away two months ago. We parted in bad ways and at the moment he died we were so estranged that I couldn't care.
Last night I first listened to this song. I liked it. I listened to it in a loop. And somewhere I started to associate it to my father, and to all the good moments with him: when he taught me to love Pink Floyd, when we watched the football match together, the 9-hour marathon of LOTR we did when we bought the stereo system. Then I reminded he was gone, and that we couldn't reconcile anymore. And I started crying the tears I didn't cry for him.
I don't know if this is what you Portuguese call saudade, but this song made me reconcile with my father's memory. And I thank you for this. So, I don't mind if you win Eurovision or not, you'll always be my heart winner.

It's complex feeling of loss and longing but simultaneously it's those heart-warming memories that make you smile even when you feel like crying. For Maro this song is about her grandfather, for your is about your dad, for me is my grandmother and for someone else it might be about their childhood.
I think that's why the song is so special and I feel very proud that this is what represents my country in Eurovision.
I hope it continues to provide peace and healing for you. Because remember even though there's sadness in saudade feeling saudade is a good thing. It means you loved/were loved.

That´s "saudade" all about, conforting to know that the people we loved the most are well, in my case, in safe heaven and that i miss a lot, missing the friends i don´t see a lot of time, joyful missing the good times i pass in my life and i can´t go back to experience anymore, sad to miss all of that .. that the definition of the word. In the case of this lyrics she said in portuguese she lost her best friend (her grandfather) so it´s no better word to say that she miss him.. "Saudade, Saudade"
